it says a graphics card with at least 1gb is required for the high res texture pack... I have a GTX260, which doesn't have that, but I can run Crysis 1 on max settings with 30+ steady FPS. Can I still not use this pack?

Also, why does Googling "crysis 2 directx 11 and high res textures leak" give me a picture of a dead horse?

@MrPistachio I don't see why, it may not run very well but it doesn't hurt to try.

Can 260's even run DX 11?

No they cannot. I have one too and my feet are firmly planted in DX10 (what a great investment that turned out to be. Slow burner to start then just as it becomes useful, it's obsolete).

You can still use the "High Texture Pack" just not DX11.

@Haggard

DX10 capable cards can run games under the DX11 renderpath, they just don't have access to certain hardware specific functions made standard by the API (hardware tessellation, for example).

I can't wait to give this a try, I've been waiting since the release of Crysis 2 for this. I did not though expect a High-Res pack though.

I'm in the same vein as with most PC gamers: this game was an epic disappointment since the demo.

- PC demo released with "Press Start" in the main screen: obvious direct console port.

- Story barely follows from Crysis/Crysis Warhead.

- It doesn't even have at least DirectX 10 which the first one had: another obvious clue that it's a console port.

- Some elements removed from the prequels (removed first-person driving, removed reaching down to pick up weapons/ammo/objects and instead they magically appear on you).

I don't mind that it goes multiplatform. But when it's an obvious direct port with no additional features for the PC version...

Sorry Crytek, but you lost most PC gamers' faith. We're now going back to DICE and Battlefield 3.

It's not even the console port though. The nanosuit and the crazy physics are what made crysis unique. Combined you had the ability to approach any situation with a number of different tactics. Crysis 2 simplified the nanosuit to the point where it was pretty much automatic, changing it from a tactical tool to you just being a superhero like in every other fps. No more destructible environments meant no more punching down a building to kill an enemy, among other shenanigans. The entire game was well, I'm not going to say dumbed down, but simplified. It felt way more like another COD clone than a sequel to Crysis. It's annoying that a game that had some truly unique features in the FPS market completely abandoned them to appeal to the masses.

Expanding markets is fine, I was happy to find out console only gamers were going to be able to play Crysis. But after playing the final product, it's clear that they aren't playing Crysis at all, instead they're just playing another generic shooter.

Can't wait for the marginally improved graphics that only a tiny fraction of PC users a) care about and b) have the capacity to run c) can tell the difference anyway for a game 99% of people have already forgotten about!

How about a patch to make the gameplay and story less generic and insipid? A fresh coat of paint isn't going to stop it being Crysis 2.

@Dick Socrates Let me guess, you don't have capable hardware? I'm pretty sure it's a huge boost in graphics if they really utilize DX11 features.

But that doesn't change the fact that this game is way worse than Crysis 1 in just about every possible aspect. I think it's the first time I've got a new game, that feels older than it's predecessor.

It's not just the graphics, but just about all the features and gameplay.

The first part had one playable multiplayer gamemode, where I had pretty epic battles with all the vehicles in big maps, almost felt like Battlefield. The "successor" felt like COD, except the maps were even smaller.

Crysis 1 was a good game, not great, but good. Crysis 2 is a piece of crap and while it's nice that developers release something new, this should have been included in the game when it was launched and doesn't change the fact that the game is a piece of crap.

It's not. Stereoscopic 3D is pretty awful right now. Not to mention that on PC almost every major game has supported 3D since Nvidia launched their glasses, so it doesn't make Crysis 2 any more special.

@kgoo867 Actually, it almost made a negative impact. Going from DirectX 10.1 to DirectX 9.0c just dosn't make that much sense. Ok, they probably did so to make multiplatform development easier. But still. Actually using older tech on a sequel just don't seem right. I think it sets a negative presedence among developers. Apparently, it is more important to make a game work on the lowest common denominator to make development easier, than to actually utilize each platform to it's maximum potential.

I'm pleased to see Dice going DirectX 11 from day one, and actually building an engine using the technology. As you said, nativly coding a game to support DirectX 11 is almost certainly going to produce better results than slapping it on as an afterthought. But hey, they might be successful in doing a good DX11 patch for Crysis 2. Though, without the relativly large areas and great physics of the first game. Crysis 2 won't be that interesting to me. It would be like making a Battlefield game with only 16-player maps. No fun at all. : /

Good news. I'm building a new rig in a few weeks for BF3 and this is the first game I'll load up and play on my new rig.

Can't wait to see it in DX11 on all new hardware.

DX11 is even less useful than DX10 was.

Both are great tech standards. But we're in a day and age where gaming consoles set the standards, not PC. No one is going to develop a game using DX11 when the Xbox uses DX9 and the PS3 uses a chipset with DX9 hardware. Heck, one of the biggest games of the year, Portal 2, is firmly planted in the world of DX9!

I would love to see more games built on DX10 or 11, but until we see the XBox 720/ PS4, it just isn't going to happen.

Too bad the ugly console ports killed PC gaming. Now we have easy, straightforward games with prehistoric graphics. I mean come on.. this is a shooter, not a FF# game
