Search engine giant Google is apparently looking to get even further into the gaming market, according to a job listing on its corporate site. The prospective employee would serve as a Product Manager for Games at Google, and "design strategies for game distribution and discovery, player identity, game mechanics, and more" as well as "initiate and prioritize projects within engineering, assist in determining the best technical implementation methods, track product development, and develop product launch plans."
Unfortunately, there's not much to go on so far -- the listing does refer to a "gaming platform" at Google, as well as "developer relations," so in between the lines here there's the idea of some service that would involve other developers in some way. But whether that means games actually developed and released by Google or just a portal to games online, we'll have to wait and see.

I have a feeling that this is probably Chrome OS related.
Just a hunch, but still.

@Tre Chrome OS or Android, likely. I can't see Google just jumping in and making their own game console, especially when their whole business model revolves around the Internet. And if they were to do a cloud gaming service, they'd likely try to buy out OnLive first.

I'm waiting for Google Trivia... sure I made it up in my head, but having a MMO trivia game based on Google's vast knowledge might be fun.

I could definitely see google actually developing games, if only because the founders think it's be pretty cool if they owned a game studio. That said I think this probably means some kind of distribution service.

It's hard to imagine that google would actually develop games, no matter how cool that would be.

How come? At their core, they're a software company, one currently staffed with the best and brightest in the field - plus, there's a strong culture of creativity throughout. I see no reason why they couldn't make games in some capacity, much like early-90s Microsoft.

...Speaking of which, Joystiq, where's *your* Buzz-button? You, too, could have 66 people spam their email contacts.
