I passed on WoC because I figured there'd be a sequel to that game and that would be the version to get.

I was half right.

@Truant

I know it's not a direct "sequel", but a newer iteration based on WoC.

@Truant There is a sequel to War for Cybertron int he works. This is not it however.

And the reason to get WfC is not because of gameplay or something arbitrary like that. But rather how well of a narrative is presents and how it wraps it into a nice package, albeit a bit of an eyesore.

You should definitely get WfC, and quality providing, the sequel.

You might as well just wait for the Transformers MMo.... maybe that one will be worth it. Check it out on Massively

Rented this from a Red Box. All in all I actually enjoyed it a bit. As a prequel I think it did its job and set up the events of the movie nicely. Even going so far as to show when the hell Megatron picked up his vehicle mode.

It was a pretty short experience, and the campaign did feel like a less polished War for Cybertron, and you can spot some reused assets, but the multiplayer is still fun as ever.

Given the restrictions in time and funding the guys were given, I feel it turned out better than I expected.

I say at the very least it is worth a rental.

Well War for Cybertron was decent so it was assumed that Dark of the Moon would at LEAST be a step from there.

@CaptainProtonX On paper it sounds odd, but it actually feels very nice after a few minutes to get used to it.

Something akin to a first person shooter where you are a car.

That sounds appropriate if you are Laserbeak and need to hide in boxes.

Damn Autobots and their boxes.

@CaptainProtonX On the subject of Laserbeak, I think that is something else this game did well. Each level you played as a different character. And each level was built around said character. So each level feels different from the last. Bumblebee's level was built around "AWW YEA LOOK AT ME I AM FAST A BALLS" whereas Iron Hide's was "OOPS I EXPLODED U"

Isn't that still the reverse of regular shooter controls though.

To be fair I'm sure this game has alternate control modes that are much more sensible.

Hmm I suppose, it's just that movement is left and aiming is right in shooters, but I guess since aiming is Independent of turning in this what you said makes sense.

From what I've read, few to none of the High Moon staff from "Cybertron" worked on this game. It's the same company but totally different staff apparently.

Yeah I read this too- that the team who made WfC has been working on WfC2 for release next year.

Activision forced them to make this for the movie's release, so they hired a bunch of newbs to rush this one out (or fart this one out- shame on Activision!)

I hate when the sequel is worse then the previous game. Granted I know nothing about development but that never makes sense to me. Shouldn't it be easier the 2nd time around?

Isn't it the same engine, graphics, gameplay, developer? Even if the story isn't a direct sequel... The game should be better then the last.

These games will continue to be made until the uninformed, moronic portion of gamers stops buying them. Unfortunately, this trend has continued for roughly 30 years and shows no signs of slowing down.

Any game tied directly to a movie is going to suck as it is a rushed job with very little development time or free thought given to the team.

When you give them time to make a licensed game not tied to a specific release date, you have a chance of getting some good things out of it. Think Hulk and Spider Man games as well as the transformer game. Think Iron Man and Thor, which were crapfests and tied to movie releases.

I honestly had little to no hope for this game primarily because (and we've heard it a million times before and will hear it a million times again) it's a movie-based game. Well, it's actually a toy-based-show-based-movie-based game. BASED! @_@

I'm still awaiting the day when these publishers and developers get a spark in their rears and want to try something new and not have the movie-related game suck so badly. Spiderman 2 was kind of there but you could tell that beyond the swinging mechanics, it wasn't entirely finished or refined.

It's just baffling that they took a good game with a simple formula and instead of following suit - decided to rip it apart and make the sequel far worse.

I loved WFC. LOVED IT! I was so disappointed to see that they were taking on the movie continuity for their follow-up rather than continuing on the G1-esque path they had already established with War for Cybertron.
