Hellgate open beta starts next Thursday

Hellgate, T3 Entertainment and HanBitSoft's free-to-play relaunch of Flagship Studios' doomed MMO, will open up its doors to any and all interested evil-smiting parties starting next week. The game's public beta will launch in North America and Europe next Thursday, June 30, giving new volunteers the opportunity to try out the beta's limited suite of features. You can sign up to try out the relaunched title on the official Hellgate website.
According to a HanBitSoft press release, the arrival of the open beta will bring two new game modes to the client: A PvP arena, and the "Cow Room," which tasks players with surviving waves of attacking zombies -- and notably lacks any bovine aggressors. You may be wondering, "Why is called the Cow Room?" It's almost worth checking out the beta to find out.

Since this game was originally made by some of the folks behind Diablo, I think we know why it's called the Cow Room. That, alone, makes me want to check it out.

The 5 minute load screen on the website is not a good sign. And that trailer too.... WTF did I just watch?

@sinergy Glad I'm not the only one who responded to the trailer with a hearty WTF. What the hell does a woman rolling around in her bra have to do with anything? Doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the game content if they decided to stick a pair of boobs in the trailer instead of showing it off.

Took me 5 seconds for the load screen. Have to agree on the trailer though.

I wonder if there are any over-priced vendors with wooden legs deserving of a nasty death in Hellgate?

If it hasn't changed since the original release, he's not only an over priced vendor, but a legless orphan boy, too!

The original game was not good. I played it because it said it was made by some diablo developers and it was terrible.... Torchlight is better example

Torchlight is actually made from ex-flagship employees who worked on Mythos which was made to test out online functionalities FOR Hellgate

The real question is... Will my previous retail install be automatically updated to the new version or do I HAVE to download it again?

I think I was one of the few people who actually liked the game originally. I have reservations about this version though. A quick glance at the Game Info page on the official site reveals quite a few instances of engrish. Hopefully the people who translated the game are a lot better than the people who made the site.

I mostly enjoyed the game, originally, but the enemy and environment variety was awful. That might have been a symptom of their plan to release more locations later, but running down the same burnt out "London" alleyway or the same metro tunnel filled with pseudo-beholders got really old, really quickly.

It is a good free game time filler while waiting for Torchlight 2.

Is there any word about what will happen to those who bought the game?
