@mywhitenoise

Do you think they should have made the video about what the song is really about? That would freak me out more.

except the song is not about what you are implying. The band denied that and said that the song is about "all the clichés about angst and youth and turning into something you didn't expect to."

I choose to dismiss that fact. It is a much better song if it is about masturbation.

Turning Japanese I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so! (do do do do do do do do)

Eighties glam rock is becoming one of my favorite genres recently.

Another week where Harmonix clearly doesn't want my money. Too bad.

I feel like a disproportionate amount of the DLC available is geared to metal heads and the party game crowd.

I don't think the majority of people buying DLC only like Metal, or primarily play RB in social situations like a party where it's seen as a casual experience. Those people aren't likely the ones driving DLC sales- except for you metal heads which, hey, more power to ya.

I feel like Harmonix has only a perfunctory interest in treating their audience like music lovers, and that's the primary reason why the audience for games like this is shrinking.

It's not about too many plastic instruments flooding the market, it's about keeping people interested once they've bought them, and while I'm occasionally satisfied by a release here and there, as a huge lover of music of all genres who is also an adult, I'm mostly disappointed with the Rock Band digital music library.

It's content offerings need to be ten times what they are. Not a weekly trickle of targeted genre songs with the dash of pop nostalgia kitsch added for good measure... as they've all at least seemed to have been lately.

Get some more goddamn indie bands on there for crying out loud. More full albums, more diversity. Treat the audience like music lover first, and party videogame consumers second. I admire their efforts and love RB, but I'm simply not being served by their approach to DLC at all, and I'd call myself a core user (every pro instrument but guitar, every game, 150 DLC tracks, and a desire for more)

Harmonix needs to figure out a way to help me enjoy MY favorite music in the game, instead of a selection of tunes that feels like a bunch of singles I'd hear on the radio. I know it's a tall order, but... these weekly release let downs are getting old, fast.

@docstrange The indy segment is addressed via the Rockband Network stuff. That's where you will get that. And as someone who claims to be a music lover, I don't know how you can not like REM's Man on the Moon which is neither metal nor aimed at the party game crowd. I consider us lucky to be getting what we are for these songs. RB3 didn't sell that well, and only owners of RB3 can buy these songs. These can't be selling THAT well and at some point, Harmonix is going to seriously cut back on what they offer if not stop alltogether. They just can't afford to dig up every independant song that makes you feel 1337 but would not be attractive to 99.9% of the market. Hell, if they pick the WRONG independant songs, you'll still turn your nose up at this list. It's probably time to accept that you're just too picky and you're never going to be satisfied by popular music compilations (which is what Rockband ultimately is) or you know, get over yourself and enjoy some fun songs with some friends.

Yet another misinformed member of the music game society. I'll run down the basics for you.

Harmonix is a company. They run a business. Their objective is to make money. They are not non-profit. They are not a charity. Most of the time, they are releasing what they project will be profit-turning DLC. Occasionally you see something obscure or fairly unknown, but since the release of Rock Band 3, it's mostly been notable content. Indie bands don't sell. Period. Not when your other offerings usually include multi-platinum artists.

Also, the amount of songs released per week has decreased, as have the frequency of full albums. Harmonix is not as resourceful as they once were, and have fewer customers than in the past, so obviously quantity will decrease. They still average more than 5 songs a week, which is more than they did in their first year of DLC. No too bad, especially considering many tracks have pro guitar and bass, which takes a lot of work to chart.

And you say to many songs are offered to the party game crowd. You do realize this is a game suited for parties right? Why do you think they added in harmonies? The overshell? All instruments mode? Would you rather they release an audiobook as DLC or something? That certainly isn't party game music.

"Harmonix needs to figure out a way to help me enjoy MY favorite music in the game, instead of a selection of tunes that feels like a bunch of singles I'd hear on the radio."

You know why they release songs that are on the radio? Cause most people like songs on the radio! That's why they're on the radio!

You wanna hear YOUR kind of music in the game? Then join a band and play YOUR kind of music, and upload it to RBN. Problem solved.

In the meantime. Listen to more music. If what Rock Band has to offer doesn't interest you, then your tastes must be very limited.
