The spammer kept responding to my comments with those stupid Nike shopping offers, I just kept responding to them. Now they've been deleted and it looks silly.

Thanks for finding this for us Joystiq. It was informative, accessible, and pretty concise for the topic involved. A nice change up from the lighthearted take usually on the site that we all know and love. Good reading for a dense topic.

"tl;dr"

It bothers me when I see this, not because its somewhat insulting, but I find it really bizarre someone is too lazy or lacks the attention span to read a few paragraphs, but not lazy enough to simply scroll past the blurb and instead taking the effort to click "continue reading" and submit that insipid text.

"When parents take back their living rooms, this issue becomes far more of a non-issue, and no regulation is going to change that. In fact, simple use of the existing parental controls correctly would be far more effective than any sales-related regulation could be."

I love how this guy repeatedly points out that basically, parents need to get their shit together if they really want to "regulate" a game. I'm saving this PDF, and next time I hear a wad of BS about a kid playing a video game and then doing something bad and blaming the game, I'm redirecting people to this file.

Gotta give it to Brown, it takes a lot of balls to file suit against a group called Entertainment Merchants Assassins.

Before Brown took office, it was Schwarzenegger v. Entertainment Merchants Association, and before that it was the Video Software Dealers Association vs something. The VSDA eventually changed their name to the EMA and Brown eventually succeeded Schwarzenegger as governor.

I have to say I love this column. I have an interest in law, especially as it relates to video games, and Supreme Court decisions like this one make me glad that the integrity of our legal system continues to protect our rights and freedoms. Not that it's anything new by now, but when our laws help to protect our freedom of expression, it is a victory for everyone.

P.S. Those who believe that violent video games are bad for our youth are simply misinformed. I hope they will discover the truth soon so we don't have to waste the Supreme Court's time with unconstitutional video game bans.
