How else can you gauge the boob-bounce effect if you don't mash the hell out of the buttons?

Well, you can crouch and jump too. But that's just juvenile.

I really would've loved "Chronicles of the Sword" mode in SC IV, considering the create-a-character mode being as vast as it was.

Since it was mentioned that the game plays like somewhat similar to SOUL BLADE, is it possible that weapon breaks will return?

SCVI didn't have a Chronicles of the Sword mode, it was called Tower of Souls.

I don't mean to be an ass, I'm just pointing out that each SC outing has a different main mode aside from the story/arcade and I suppose that when they talk about CotS they mean that RTS-like mode from SCIII and not the extra mode in a general sense.

@foxhound That'd be sweet! I'm sorry to say I didn't ask -- still very early, so hopefully the folks at Project Soul are considering it!

I'm aware it wasn't in the game. ;D In fact,
I thought "Tower of Souls" was a weak

Really? I found the CAC to be abyssmal. Not by the selection/ability to create. It was great, even if some of the girl's armors were a little too showy (contrast SC3's CAC, less showy, more awesome). However, the stats system just killed it for me. I felt the SC3 system was much, much better, even if it had the "personality selection" thing, which was annoying. I'd rather just pick my personality, rather than being bound to what I look like.

Afterall, Zasalamel is a black man. Where's the gold teeth and the dreadlocks? The gold eye doesn't count.

Honestly Ben, if you're a SC button masher, your "experience" doesn't account for much.

No hard feelings, just sayin'.

@TheShaper It's mostly a joke about how SC is a button mash-friendly game. I've been playing the SC series for many years -- how else would I have known about Mitsu and Siegfried's stances?

Patroklos is more like Cassandra than Sophitia, but yeah. Expect a lot of characters to have their styles handed down from the last generation. No sense in completely abandoning away perfectly good (and popular) movesets. Sophitia and Cassandra players would not be pleased if their preferred movesets just disappeared.

There are shots of a gray haired Mitsurugi in the most recent EGM, so between the 17 year gap and all the crazy magic nonsense that comes along with Soul Calibur stories, I'm sure most of the original cast will be returning.

@Chareth Cutestory They said they're shooting for a roster of about 26 and half of them will be old characters and half will be new. Siegfried, Nightmare, Mitsurugi, and Ivy are all returning. Hwang, Cassandra, and Sophitia are not. There's a teaser silhouette for a female character floating around that looks a lot like Taki's replacement, so she probably won't be back.

Please, no custom characters in online modes....... Unless they just take an exact moveset from another character. Love this game but I better still be able to block stun.

Maybe when we start to hear more about the new characters in the roster.

After playing the latest Mortal Kombat I can't think of any other fighting game doing a btter job with a story mode. The guys at NetherRealm did a fantastic job with the campaing and it actually finally made clear to me most of the stuff that I had no idea how or why it happened in previous games.

That being said, SC is still my all time favorite fighting series, and regardless of what they do with the story, the gameplay is where it's at, so I know I'll be playing SC V when it comes out.

Wow, I'm amazed about how giddy that idea makes me. And how much sense it makes, especially considering their history with silly guest characters. The turtles are still cool, right? Do today's kids even know / care about them? God I hope so.

Soul Cal IV was awful so hopefully they can bring the series back to SCII standards.

Namco, there is no reason to almost completely remove defense from your game.

Yeah, it's really too bad. I actually watched that cross-over movie that had the "new" turtles and the originals meeting up. Pretty fun, but it's clear that the turtles I remember are long gone.

But they could do it really easily as just a simple skin switch, they pretty much already have all the turtles in the game. Let's see, Kilik, Taki, and Maxi take care of three of em. Any of the sword fighters could work for Leo. Mitsurugi would probably be best. And heck, for a random bonus, throw in Shredder as a Voldo skin. Now THAT could ruin some childhood memories, lol.

What makes Soul Calibur games special for me is the massive movelists they employ. I have not found annother fighter that has as many different moves for each character as SC, and they add new moves every game.
Learning all the movies and the right way and timing to use them is almost like mastering a real martial art. It's less greuling but it still gives me that feeling of achievement.
I'm afraid that this now direction that they're planning on may encourage more buttonmashy gameplay and reduce the effectiveness on that mastery by trail and study.

Let us unlock stuff while playing P vs P. They did that in SC 3, and its a superb idea! I don't enjoy having to work my way into a long single player fighting compaign to unlock stuff. Fighting is best with a friend.

That should be the new standard in fighting games.
