Ben Heck is truly a master of manipulating manufactured goods, and nothing proves his mechanical prowess more than his latest creation: an Xbox 360 disc changer. Heck has taken the 360's DVD drive and placed it inside a heavily modified Sony CD changer. He then uses an Arduino microcontroller to control disc selection, and solders the whole kit-and-caboodle onto the 360's motherboard.
For all us lazy slobs at Joystiq, it's a beautiful dream to behold. We doubt we'll ever have the opportunity to actually buy one, but modding community element14 is giving away Ben's prototype, if signing up for forums to win homemade Xbox disc-changers is your scene.

If you actually watched the episode, he programmed the arduino board to NOT rotate the spindle when a disk was in the loaded position. And the disk can only be unloaded by the Xbox360's standard "eject disk" mechanism.
This is ben heck, did you seriously think he'd make a flaw like that?

Is it me or there's a kind of a paradox with Xbox 360 gamers?
"Haha PS3 needs to install their games" then later "Install your Xbox 360 game to the HDD, it'll perform better" or
"We don't need integrated WiFi, wired is better" then "Yey for integrated WiFi in the new Xbox S" or
"Who cares about HDMI; there's not enough people with HDTVs" then later "Yey they now include an HDMI port" or
"Who cares if it's multiple discs, are you lazy?" then later "This is awesome: a disc changer"

Is it really being a troll if it's factual? That's like me saying "Battlefield 3 will look better on PC than PS3 and 360" then you guys saying I'm a PC troll. It's a fact.

What? Might want to do a bit of research in gaming history and how people reacted with each features on both sides. And you might want to take TraceurRyuk Part III's perception and analysis because your's isn't gonna get you far in debates.

@Ballistic H There is a major difference between an optional install and a mandatory one. I won't debate your other examples because those are things I wanted from day one. I think a lot of people were willing to overlook those small omissions for a cheaper console in the beginning because when the xbox launched not many people did have hdmi (that I knew at least) They've added those two features in the new console while keeping the price down so I am happy.

not to mention the games. i know that's what kept me off from buying a PS3 until a couple years ago. besides the price, there was absolutely nothing to play on it! or it was just barely getting good games that launched on the 360 at least a year before (BioShock, Oblivion). now, i can safely say i'm glad to own both. for the PS3 i enjoy the exclusives, and for the 360 i enjoy the superior XBLA selection, the occasional exclusive, and rampant racist shit talk!

as opposed to sony that in the begining put in a bluray player into the ps3 that made the console prohibitively expensive
and thus crippled thier early install base
which made all third party developers base their games off the xbox architecture first and PS3 second
and thus the ports for PS3 were handed over to inferior developers or the development team B and they ran terrible.
thus continued a vicious cycle, which is why the superior in all regards to all other consoles (which I honestly believe is true). PS3 is still third in the US market
So yeah....

>>there was absolutely nothing to play on it!
I guess we had different PS3's... or perhaps different taste in games because I bought and played 18 games in the first year of it's release. ANd before the hecklers jump in and day, "there were more than 5 games released on it?", you can see the list of games here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_3_games. Sort by North American release date and you can count them yourself.
As for the rampant racist talk, the PSN has it's share as well. XBL does not have a monopoly on all the rednecks...

Usually the kinds of people that do these types of video's have 0 acting/presentation skill, but Ben is quite pleasant to watch considering his skill. I like how he doesn't constantly try and make crap jokes or bad video effects.
Also, a great "hack", not one for everyday Joe, but a great piece of engineering none-the-less.

An automatic disc changer for the Xbox360! This is a great idea, since games that fit on a single PS3 Blu-ray disc need to be split up into several CDs.
Congratulations 360-owners! Now you can play straight through L.A. Noir like PS3-owners!

You understand the the access time is so slow on some of those massive discs that they have to duplicate the data in several spots so the load times aren't even longer?
Not an effecient use of such a huge storage medium.

what mikeburnfire means to do is troll because he just got done wacking off to large breasts and is suffering from ineptitude, also known as "little man syndrome". it's OK mikeburnfire, you don't have to die ugly, alone, and with AIDS. seek change within yourself and you may one day be able to achieve something of mediocre worth.

@LinkRazr Is the PS3 version "crap"? I played it on 360, but was thinking of getting the PS3 version because I'm itching to play through it again and I sold my 360 copy long ago. I also wanted to check out the PS3 version since it comes with all the DLC...I didn't get all the DLC on the 360. But now that ur saying it sucks I'm second guessing myself about getting it! What exactly sucks about it?
