People either need to send in audio mp3s or you need to lose the music in the intro. The low-fidelity of voicemails really does not lend itself to music playing over the top.

@Ellimem Doesn't bother me too much, but maybe we'll experiment with MP3s. I kinda dig the lo-fi sound.

It is really not a big deal. Just some of the crackling made it hard to understand what some of the folks were trying to say.

I feel like I am listening to NPR. They just need to replace the music with some didgeridoos and it will be complete.

@BuddyleeR It's no comment on the quality of the podcast. I just saw that the "segments" were outlined above, and figured if they're presented like that, it couldn't hurt to have the timestamp, too. I'll listen to the whole thing, but maybe I'm most excited about the Spoiled Rotten.

@RichardMitchell Great work that you guys are doing, and thanks for following so close on the heels of the last episode. I was worried there for a few days before ep. 2 dropped.

I love you Chris, please stop hurting me like this. A compromise perhaps? How about an interview or two within the old format? The higher production value is nice, and would add a lot to the old format. Also the editors not previously on the Joystiq Podcast without naming names are really not great in interviews or roundtables at all.

Please stop breaking my

You know, I'm used to when a videogame website talk about JRPG's, for the editor to pull down their pants and take a rather large dump on my head for liking them. This is primarily because the editor feels their taste in games is the status quo and I'm obviously a lesser being for enjoying JRPG's, an outdated concept. With that said, you have made my day with this episode with the amount of time and respect you'e given them. Thanks!

Are we really supposed to post what we think of the podcast here in the comments? I mean, it says right there in the post that we should, but then the Joystiq folks start tweeting that us commenters are squeaky wheels who don't know what we want and shouldn't be listened to under any circumstances, so...I'm confused.

Oh wow I'm sorry, I don't want to be rude but you guys are killing me here. I've never dreamt of commenting here before but I just had to register.

I don't want to offend because I realize you guys put a lot of work into this and I realize that you guys think the old format has had its time but you're just killing me. I know things take time to get into gear but I don't think I can give another one of these new podcasts a chance.

Localization as a topic? seriously? I can't tell you how unbelievably boring this was. I nearly had to turn it off before the first section ended. This does not entertain me, perhaps there's another different audience out there that does but it's not me.

The first episode felt like such a drawn out sprawling epic of taking shots at DNF from every angle possible. Good lord does DNF deserve it but I didn't want to listen to hours of it either.

The second episode had some interesting content on smaller interesting games from E3, this went on waaaay too long though, five minutes per title was enough for me. All these interviews with people - I'm sorry I love and support and respect this industry but I just don't care to hear the life story of some small PR guy from some company. Really guys.

Episode 3. Localization. This is like the videogame analogue to stamp collecting.

I don't know what to say, I don't think you're going to go back to the old style so I don't think this site's podcast is something I'm going to follow anymore. It used to be one of only two podcasts I looked forward to in the week.

Peace

You said everything I was thinking as I was listening to the episode on my drive home from work. What I kept coming back too was how funny and entertaining the old podcast was and I was struck by the fact that the new format had not made me laugh once.

And I agree, it was one of the few podcasts I really looked forward too. Moving on I guess.

I was ready for the new format and had no real negative feelings about it from the beginning. However, after 3 episodes I have to voice my opinion that it just isn't very good. It's not something I wanna listen to.

My opinion probably doesn't matter, and I'm sure a lot of people like the new show, but it isn't for me.

I don't want to be negative since it would kill me to break Richard's heart, but I just can't listen anymore. Granted, this week was a good improvement from the last two, and Richard sounds like he's trying his hardest, which I love him for.... but it's still not doing anything for me. Strike three, I'm out.

The voicemails at the beginning with nerds trying and failing to be humorous are the audio equivalent to pulling teeth for me. There was good reason for the the old show to be choosy about what they played on the air; I even remember Justin mentioning something about not picking calls that tried too hard to be funny.

More lively editors need to be picked for hosts for the interview portions. I think JC is an awesome guy and has some great views, but his voice in a setting like this only serves to make me drowsy. I would've loved one of the more vibrant-sounding people to handle it, like Hinkle or Xav or hell even Chris Plant or something.

Also, even though it's technically not part of the show, the odd jabs Chris and sometimes even Justin do via twitter and other sources at fans that have legitimate problems with the show weigh in on my feelings towards the show itself-- I'm hard-pressed to support something handled by jerks.

I still love the site, and I'll always cherish the two old shows (which I am now trying to collect all the episodes for to preserve them in my memory), but I'm out on this new Show. I wish you guys luck with it.

I have yet to listen to an entire episode of "The Joystiq Show."
In fact, I went back and replaced it with the last X3F episode on my iPod.
I also replaced the subscription with the CAGcast.
I wish I didn't have to do this.
It hurts me a lot more than it hurts you.

Remember how it was mentioned how the podcast had very few downloads even though the site had millions of viewers?

Can we get an update on those numbers?

I appreciate you trying to do something different with the Joystiq show, but sometimes you gotta admit when the audience didn't take.

It was something like 40k if I remember correctly. I'm sad to say but the old podcast is gone and not coming back. Chris Grant did say they wanted to try to get a bigger share of the millions of website traffic but the Joystiq guys also said they were just tired of the format.
The only use of showing the Joystiq Show download numbers now would be to use them as a stick to beat up the Joystiq staff for taking away our favorite show. Not really productive but it would make me feel better.

Tried to listen again but this is just killing me how boring this is. I don't care about localization or how "exciting" you may think it is. I gave a listen to each segment but then ending going to the spoiled rotten segment since I usually enjoyed that on the old podcast. Surprise, you guys had managed to ruin that also. Thanks. Podcasts are supposed to be entertaining first and informational second. Why would I want to continually listen to a podcast that while informative, puts me to sleep. You might have lawsuits headed your way with all of the 5 o'clockers falling asleep at the wheel.

Like entire two paragraph posts aren't showing up. It's really annoying. I think it's because I wrote something in an email and I pasted into the field. I hit submit and it never shows up. I did it three times.

My basic thesis was a 'JV podcast' that very similar to the old format with an open/rotating cast. I don't hate the new show. There have been some very informative bits, but it's very sterile and I'd enjoy it more if I knew that I also had a 'fun' show to listen to, too.

Thanks for the effort guys. Not really my cup of tea. But I don't really listen to shows like This American Life. Hopefully you guys will be able to capture that NPR type audience because I have really enjoyed the stuff you've done in the past. Hell, I'll even recommend the podcast to people who are looking for more high brow gaming talk. Good luck gentlemen.

A better effort than the previous shows but I'm done with this podcast. The disappointment of the previous shows made me seek out several replacements that I find much more enjoyable to listen to. I may listen to the odd segment in the future if you cover a topic I’m interested in but that’s about it.
