Wait... why was that posted again?
I was under the impression that the existence of the Oracle Turret was a well known fact? It's not even hidden in the game or anything...

The only ones I didn't know were the P-Body sighting and the large Greek myth references.

I'm not really sure how secret these are, considering there's achievements for most of them.
Posted: Jul 17th 2011 3:04PM mattwestcott said
Why is this news? Other than achievement hunters, I'm sure most people who played through the game more than once would've found most of these on their own.

You're going to get downvoted because you don't make any sense. What does an Activision/EA article have to do with the editor writing more than one article about the same company (in this case, Valve)?
Smarten up.

Hey, asshole, you're on the wrong site. Joystiq is a blog, and we come to the site because we like to read about videogames, as written by people with personalities and opinions.
If you want to to a website where everyone pretends to be objective and neutral all the time, head over to something like GameSpot.

You'll get downvoted because what you're saying has nothing to do with anything going on in this post. Also, assholes like you who leave no room for debate "...you know I'm right," are a waste of time. Keep your conspiracy theories and "facts" to yourself.

I found all of these in the first playthrough. There's some other hidden stuff that most people don't find though.
For instance, the painting you're required to look at in the beginning is set in the daytime. When you look at it after you wake up again the scene has changed to a nightlife.

@pasta SteamXBL pastapappie Yep, I remember seeing that in my first five minutes with the game. I think a lot of people did see it, but probably just didn't comment on it. Valve kinda' even encourages you to see it too, considering they have you "stare at the art" for a few seconds.

I'll be honest, this isn't news really. If you missed it on the play-through, well... I don't know how you did that.

Don't forget Chell's name on the giant Potato science project, along with another child named "Alix".
Also, the name Caroline comes from the phrase "Free Man".

How come Valve can't spell names?
Carolyn= "Carol--lin"
Caroline= "Caro-line"

I have heard that you get voted down for the truth on this site.
And Tihn are the first two letters of my first name and the last two of my surname. It is not a reference to tin.
You were voted up for some reason. Again, propagating the fact that truth=downvoted, lies=upvoted on this site.

Wait... I can't be the only guy that found out that Chell was responsible for that mutant potato project from Bring Your Daughter To Work Day.
Seriously, if you have good enough video quality, you can zoom in on the papers and stuff to see what's written, including a little girl's name on each and every one. Chell's is right at the giant one overtaking the facility.

You know what else she didn't tell me? The release date for the DLC. Come to think of it I haven't heard a single peep since shortly after the game launched, how about some investigative bloggerism???

@garnsr There are a TON of downloadable levels over thinkingwithportals.com, many of them created for the summer testing initiative. A good number of them are VERY good, stuff that is just as good as what's in the game, and in a few instances I've played, such as "Time Arch", actually improves upon the game mechanics by introducing new mechanics (in this case, time travel).
Give them a shot. Here's a good place to start:

If you have the PS3 version, go redeem your PC copy already. If you already did or you just bought your copy through Steam, just go look at some custom maps. They did a contest over the summer and there's actually some pretty creative, interesting stuff out there.

Uhm, I played through it twice and only found about a half of these. How does them being achievements doesn't make them secret? I mean sure, you can specifically google for achievements but Portal isn't a trivially easy game so finding secrets is not easy either, especially if you don't know what they are.

Honestly, if you didn't remember the "different" turret from when you were trying to escape with Wheatly early in the game, and didn't think to pick him up when you find him later in the game after it spoke to you again and *didn't* try and kill you, you either weren't paying attention well enough or you're a complete dick.

Good to see Joystiq is going about this the ecologically responsible way and recycling old articles instead of damaging the environment by making new ones.

But yeah, this is hardly 10 secrets. More like 6 achievements, 3 legitimate easter eggs (one of which has been previously covered by Joystiq), and one "secret" that is admittedly just conjecture based on the obvious. Yes, it takes elements from classic stories, as does everything.
