I saw no so-called "reply".
I did, however, see a douchebag.

I was watching the video wondering if Barret used the opportunity to unveil a new project of theirs, but alas, just a screw up in the news post.
I'd understand if maybe there was the good ol' Ma Deuce(M2 Browning), which uses the same cartridge as the M82, but that wasn't in there, so I dunno.

I'm sure authenticity is a must in such a historically accurate game, so I can see that the developers taking a trip to a sound studio and spending the day shooting guns was absolutely not for pleasure what so ever.
I'm sure there's going to be a ton of you defending the need to have authentic "empty clip" sounds in your horror games, but the way I see it, this was a huge waste of funds.
This game had better be the bees knees for them to be confident enough to waste so much time and money.

you know what else really gets my goat? The faces in this game. They spent sooooo much time and money making the faces look "SO REAL" but COME ON PEOPLE!!!!!!! THIS IS A HORROR GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!! AUTHENTICITY IS NOT IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just MSPaint a frowny face on all the bad guys and put a confident smirky face on all the good guys! that is literally ALL YOU NEED! What a huge waste of funds, these guys have no excuse whatsoever wasting so much money making things look nice. I'm sure a bunch of you are gonna come forward with "GEE BUT THE NICE GRAPHICS MAKE HTE GAME MORE ENGROSSING" but you're full of crap. "engrossing" and "horror" have absolutely NOTHING to do with eachother. This game better be the best game ever made to justify their high-falootin attitude about literally (LITERALLY!) just throwing money out the office window. stupid

I think it's more an issue with the whole "these are OUR sounds, go get your own or we'll SUE you!" deal... Than it is with the "Well jeeze... NOBODY has a free generic machine gun sound I can borrow?" idea.
Corporations... I think it's about time we free the sheep and STICK IT TO THE MAN!

If they went through the trouble of getting their own sounds they could of atleast given the sniper rifle a bit of recoil from shooting

Surely these all exist in B-roll packages somewhere?

I doubt that. There are companies that will record stock audio from multiple mics and endless array of guns then they license out the library of sounds to developers for a small fee and then those developers tweak the sounds to the way they see fit for their game.
However some developers probably feel that it adds to the authenticity to have their own sound. Not just the end product but as an experience for the sound guys to actually know what it sounds and feels like when those guns are shot in real life. It's probably good for morale and gets them in the mood to be excited to work and keeps things fun. It also helps to keep people that love what they do working for you because you give them the freedom to do what they love. It's not free but I doubt it costs them that much money. And now it's become a good PR tool. Wins all around.
