Am I the only one who's not impressed by the fact that this game is basically a carbon copy of Sonic 2 with updated graphics and 2.5D?

@Prax This is basically the game that everyone has wanted since 1994.

I wasn't excited at all and the demo actually had the opposite effect on me. I thought it controlled more like old-school Sonic than the actual Sonic 4 did.

@Prax You say it like it's a bad thing...
You get the Sonic 2 Like gameplay and levels...which is still great till this day.
Along with the modern sonic high speed/platforming goodness that people liked in Sonic unleashed (during the day) and Sonic Colors (most of the time)

@Prax Sonic 2 you say.. Let's see. Green Hill, that's Sonic 1. City Escape, that's Sonic Adventure 2. Metal Sonic was never in Sonic 2. Thus far has proven to have actual good level design unlike Sonic 2. Entire modern half of the game is nothing like that...
Do you know what you're talking about?

No they didn't. Metal Sonic came from Sonic CD. Tails was the new character in Sonic 2.

There have been multiple Metal Sonics, but the first appearance of any sort of robotic Sonic was in Sonic the Hedgehog 2's Death Egg Zone.

You fought him before squaring off against Robotnik himself.
An upgraded version appeared in Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

Are you people seriously trying to justify that the game isn't a carbon copy of previous Sonics, by arguing that it's not like Sonic 2, instead Sonic 1, Sonic Adventures or Sonic CD? You're proving my point on your own, this isn't an original game. It's a rehash of previous games in the series, and from what I've seen and played, it doesn't really offer anything original that we haven't already seen from Sonic. Regardless of which game in the series it's copying...

Yeah but you specifically only said Sonic 2 and that is what people are correcting you on. You are now backpedaling.

@Prax But, the whole point of the game is that they're rehashing previous titles, what did you expect. : /

@Prax Here's the thing though.
This is what all the complainers wanted. They're doing their best to revamp it and add to it a completely different spin than what we saw with most previous games. But THIS is what all the nostalgia based complainers that say the only two games that were good were Sonic 1 and 2 and then claim to be a Sonic fan have brought upon us.
I'm just happy this is an idea that so far WORKS. Last time this happened, listening to complainers, we got Sonic 2006.

@MarkShark If people complaining and being petulant babies is getting me an HD revamp of Chemical Plant with Classic Sonic gameplay returning, God bless them. God bless them every one.
Also all the games in the series have been really bad after the Genesis. Adventure 1 & 2 were good when they came out but have aged really poorly, and at best we've had Colors which was still a very mediocre game. Sorry, but that's the harsh reality of this whole dumb franchise.

You didn't like Sonic Colors? The basic gameplay mechanics of Generations are based on that game.

The demo pretty much did it for me. I'm 28 years old and Sonic basically came into light a few years after I started gaming and continued on throughout all those years. This is the first game since Sonic Adventure that makes me excited about the series again. The demo is just perfect.

@(Unverified) I'm actually hoping to hear more about the new Sonic. I actually liked Sonic Adventure's grinding/homing attacks when they weren't clunky and this looks like they may have polished it up.

You're getting a Casino Nights mini game with a pre order from Gamestop (USA)/GAME (UK). There will probably be a main Casino style zone in the game, not having one in a Sonic game is weird.

Sonic Colors still takes the cake for me.
I thought this game would take a new cake.. then I played the demo... the cake was a lie.
Not that I mind a minute and a half of pressing forward and jump, but the blur effects totally ruined the experience.
