Forgoing its usual Sunday release strategy, Nintendo has announced that Star Fox 64 3D will launch in North America on a Friday -- September 9, to be exact. That's only a week before the annual family trip to Canada for the Vintage Wings air show!
Your family traditions aside, Star Fox 64 3D adds improved graphics, gyroscopic controls and an overhauled multiplayer experience to the N64 classic. Oh, and it's on the 3DS, so you know what that entails.
You'll be able to read our preview of the multiplayer mode soon.

@Trilancer - You know, I was just explaining this to my coworkers the other day: "It's a flight combat game being released on September 11. How can you not see something strange with that?"
It wouldn't be a great way to bolster sales, either: "So, you're looking at getting a 3DS this fine, 9/11 Sunday, are you? Well, here's a game where you're a pilot shooting at stuff!"
Yea, that would go over real well with customers...

Yes, America's fear of anthropomorphic animals having space battles over landmarks can be put at easy for another year.

Slippy Toad: Why are ships coming out of the base?
R.O.B. 64: A bomb has been planted at the base.
Fox McCloud: Jeez! Can anyone take care of it?
Wolf O'Donnell: Can't let you do that, Star Fox!
Leon Powalski: Andross has ordered us to take you down.
Pigma Dengar: Peppy! Long time no see!
Andrew Oikonny: Andross' enemy is MY enemy.
Fox McCloud: Just what I needed to see. Star Wolf.
Fox McCloud: You probably read this in our voices.

I'll be at Hopscotch then, but hopefully I'll be able to pick it up some time before the 6 hour ride home that Sunday.

One possibility is that they are using original source material. The voices don't have to be as compressed as the original game.
But Slippy and Peppy, sound like totally different voice actors.
With the extra detail and texturing they did for this release, I wish they fixed the one gripe I had about Star Fox 64. The flat textures depicting their bodies inside the Arwing. All it would need is a few polygons to make up two arms, then the flat texture below THAT, the cockpit wouldn't look completely flat, and it would look 100% better.

Actually, considering what we've gotten in the past from SF Adventures and SF Assault, these are VERY VERY CLOSE. Fox at least sounds like his old self. Slippy no longer sounds like nails on a chalkboard, and Peppy isn't a wheezing geezer anymore. As far as remakes go, this is shaping up to be pretty good.

Peppy is older than the rest of the team. He was in the original team by Fox's father. He was supposed to sound old.

If time is money then you've already wasted far more than $250 on the 3DS.

New voice overs = no buy.
There are only two reasons to buy this game: You've never played it or you have played the crap out of it and you are buying it for nostalgia.
With SF64 having some of the most recognized lines in video game history, redoing the voice work simple ruins the nostalgia portion of that.

Just a little while ago I was watching the videos on Nintendo Channel and noticed how fast they flashed by the Sept 11th release date of Star Fox. Can't blame them for making the switch. More games should come out on Fridays though. Give you the weekend to enjoy them before going back to school/work.

September 9th:
1942 – World War II: A Japanese floatplane drops an incendiary bomb on Oregon.
1969 – Allegheny Airlines Flight 853 DC-9 collides in flight with a Piper PA-28 and crashes near Fairland, Indiana.
1970 – A British airliner is hijacked by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and flown to Dawson's Field in Jordan.
Bad things happened on EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR, you guys. They didn't change it because it was September 11th, and if they did, they're stupid for it. You have to get to the point already where you understand that
-The US is not the only country in the world
-September 11th is a day like any other and does not revolve around one freaking thing
If you argue against it being released on the 11th because you're too stupid to understand that nintendo isn't wringing their hands evilly and going "Bwahaha! We will offend the morons!", you must also argue against it being released the 9th- plane-related issues happened on September 9th, too.
The world does not revolve around your unbelievably delicate sensibilities.

@FuzzyPierce Those things didn't happen only ten years ago and kill thousands of people, igniting a two wars that several major world powers are invested in, moron.
Kojima had images of Arsenal Gear wrecking into downtown New York removed from MGS2 because it was released near September 11th. Uh, y'know, the world doesn't revolve around other's delicate sensibilities.

While I agree with what you've said, I don't think that people have really reacted that way. For most it was a "Releasing on Sept. 11th? If you're sure...", rather than "HOW DARE YOU RELEASE SUCH A THING ON THAT DAY!!!!1!!"
Heck, I didn't even realize it until someone else pointed it out. And then it was just an, "Oh, that's interesting" moment - nothing more.
