The news of Mortal Kombat's next downloadable brawler, Nightmare on Elm Street antagonist Freddy Krueger, is weird for a number of reasons. First off: It's Freddy Krueger in Mortal Kombat. We didn't know non-gaming murderers were allowed to join the party! Secondly: Wouldn't his inclusion be predicated on the fact that everyone in the Mortal Kombat universe is asleep while they're fighting? That seems like it would be difficult to do.
Check out Freddy's appropriately brutal announcement trailer above, and decide whether you're going to grab him from your respective DLC marketplace when he arrives August 9.
Update: A Warner Bros. press release has revealed that Freddy will cost 400 Microsoft Points ($4.99), and will be free to Season Pass subscribers. Comic-Con 2011 attendees can check out his sweet, Baraka-esque moves at the GameStop in San Diego's Westfield Horton Plaza between 7 and 10 p.m. PT.
@BobbyRobby Me too but how can we say this is a bad thing until we actually use him. The whole point of playing the game is to have fun. And i don't see any reason why this couldn't be a fun addition to an already fun game.
@Tihn You know what I think is great? Not having to pay for balance patches. I think that is so great. What's that? Capcom bundles those in it's resells? Oh, that sucks. Wait, what did you say? MK patches it's games, and sells DLC seperately? That's a lot cooler.
@BobbyRobby Has something to do with playability, somehow? I guess, yeah, you got your Catgirls and your Dans, but Freddy Krueger(who is downloadable, and I'm guessing that's some sort of issue for tournaments somehow?)? Too much!
@Apollo26 When I saw that Freddy was going to be in MK I was about ready to finally go out and buy it, then I saw it wasn't Robert Englund and I went back to my zero interest in buying it...
@Apollo26 It's NOT the new one. It's just Freddy in general. Boon says he wasn't sure he could get Englund's likeness, but he is NOT specifically the new Freddy. Boon hasn't even SEEN the new movie.
@Mrguy you know that guy Really?I like MK, but its super clunky in comparison to the smoothness or depth of MvC3, I don't see how its a better fighter at all.
@ZexionArmando While I may not think MK is the GREATEST EVEA! (I think it should've stayed 3D because the game is broken in 2D beyond all rights. But eh, people like it and beside the point) It was way better then that simple mess of MvC3 where basically I didn't have to do anything but quater circle and mash buttons to do insane combos. No timing no nothing.
Now, BB I'll say is best fighter this gen. Only because no GG so far.
@skeldare Jason Voorhees? No, that would too ridiculous. In keeping in line with stiff and clunky animations found in the Mortal Kombat games, the next DLC character will be Frankenstein.
The newest chapter of the iconic fight franchise marks a triumphant return to the series' mature presentation and a reinvention of its classic 2D fighting mechanic. Driven by an all new graphics engine, the fan favorite Fatality is back and presented in more gory detail than ever before. In addition, Mortal Kombat introduces a number of new game-play features including tag team and the deepest story mode of any fighting game. Players can choose from an extensive lineup of the game's iconic warriors and challenge their friends in traditional 1 vs. 1 matches, or take on several new game modes.
