Rumor: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 3D to be released in 2012
38
Rumors are circulating that the 3DS version of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will be released in 2012. Kotaku Australia reports that Konami confirmed the news directly, though the publisher provided no further information other than a 2012 release date.
When approached for comment, Konami informed Joystiq that no North American launch date has been announced. At the Tokyo Game Show last year, Hideo Kojima announced a 2011 release for the game. If this latest news is true, it would seem the date applied only to Japan.

With the reactions the game got at E3, it better be delayed.

You are waiting to buy a 3DS until a 3DS remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater comes out? It would probably be best to buy the Metal Gear Solid HD collection when it comes out. If the other upcoming 3DS games are not of interest (Mario Kart, Star Fox, etc) than perhaps getting a 3DS wouldn't be best.

I'm in the same mindset in terms of 3DS purchase. If it's not coming out this year, then I'm fine with holding off until 2012. Or just putting that money into more PS VITA stuff.
Frankly, nothing else really interests me on the system. I'm not a fan of most of Nintendo's recent first-party offerings, and the only third party game I wanted was RE:M, but eff it.

3DS has been a total mess. Nintendo has to get there act together with their launches and third party support.

Really? When ever has a console/handheld had what could be unanimously termed an EXTRAORDINARY launch (esp. in recent memory)? The original DS had the same exact situation with underwhelming launch titles like Rayman DS, Bomberman DS, etc. and it went on to do extremely well. Same with the Vita; personally, I'm not excited for anything announced thus far for it including Uncharted: Golden Abyss (esp. compared to the next console Uncharted coming soon for PS3). But Vita like the 3DS I'm sure will have a lot of good games but they're likely not to be in overabundance sheer months after the Vita launches.
These things aren't popcorn machines: it's video game hardware and fantabulous games take time to code and create; people should keep their panties on. Plus, the 3DS has only been out since late March which only puts it on the North American market for about 4 months now. I'm actually enjoying this time of 3DS game shortage: allows me to concentrate on OoT (which I'm playing for the 1st time 'n loving it) and not create a huge backlog of stuff to play.

Launch sales were good, but overall sales are, IIRC, less then the Ds's initial sales rate.
People jus aren't snapping these things up left and right like you'd expect. I think it's alack of games combined with a lot of Vita hype, which overall is looking like the better system.
Nintendo needs to give people some solid, new reasons to buy the console, and so far, it's been a total phone in effort from them.

@C1ph3rDivyne I never said anything about having an amazing launch. Nintendo hasn't had good third party support since SNES and they keep lying and saying that they will. I bought OoT but don't care for it much since i beat it 8 times when it came out for N64.
What need is there to mention PSVita? There is no fanboyism here. The DS launch was bad as well but then prevailed. 3DS will do very well soon but the point I have is that they have to gather their act for this platform as well as their home consoles. You can't keep pushing the "hardcore" away and seeming unorganized with empty promises.

they downgraded this game, not worth buying for me. i blame the ipod/pad gen. developers are getting selfish and lazy with their handheld budget now.

I'm okay with the delay. There are so many epic games coming this year that I'll have to devote my time to. When Snake Eater 3D comes out, I don't want to deny it my full attention. I give my all, not for honor, but for 3D.

Hopefully by 2012 3DS owners will no longer be starved enough to consider buying remakes.

A lot of people don't see the need for $250 hardware to play games we already own and played.

WTF!? it takes them that long to make a remake of a game and replace it with better graphics and 3d?When did i first hear about this like over a year ago?god damn the hd versions of MGS2,MGS3,and peace Walker are coming out November 8th!

I was about to say Noooo but it'll make room for the HD collection and I won't feel as stupid about buying two versions of the same game at the same time. Just unfortunate that I'm losing another 3DS game this year, there aren't that many I'm interested in to begin with, I need more ASAP.

So they have trouble taking a finished game and producing a port that will almost definitely have less content (I'll be absolutely shocked if they bring back Persistence's online mode). Expecting MG1 and 2 would be crazy too. All for more money than Subsistence.

Bummer. MGS3 was actually my favorite of the series. I wanted to buy the HD collection when it comes out (and I still might), but I don't know why they wouldn't have just gone ahead and put MGS1 in with it.

Because ps1 games look terrible in HD. they would have had to remake the game ala the twin snakes to make it look reasonable on the ps3.

Aaand there goes my last desire to pick this version up.
Posted: Jul 27th 2011 10:17AM ColorblindMonk said
Again, as cipher said, the DS was in the same boat. Why people aren't picking it up today may be because the value people see of handheld games have dropped in recent years, due to Apple's demonspawn iPhone and Android's intrusion in the mobile game market, a problem the Vita as well will face. Price is no doubt a factor, since hardware and titles are so ungodly expensive these days, every purchase has to mean something to the consumer.
If Mario Kart, Super Mario, Luigis Mansion, Kid Icarus, and Starfox aren't new, solid reasons to buy a 3DS later this year, I dunno what is. All I see are people who think too far too fast, for a handheld that isn't even 6 months old.

Well, after the problems pointed out at E3, I was content with just getting the HD collection, but this seals the deal. This isn't exactly a good move, considering the MGS HD collection would therefore be coming out first, and it appears to contain the better of the two MGS 3 ports.
Posted: Jul 27th 2011 10:08AM Mexicanstyle said
I have to imagine this will quite severely hurt it's sales, as It's been confirmed (by Kojima) that the HD collection will be playable on the PSV via "transfarring".

I was really excited about this game but I don't like how things are turning out... Think I might just get the HD collection.
