When we were 8, we spent our time playing Street Fighter with friends, for fun, or for Pogs if we were feeling feisty. Eight-year-old Noah spends his time viciously defeating grown men in professional Marvel vs Capcom 3 tournaments, as shown in the above EVO 2011 video. This year, Noah made it into the top 48 playing Hulk, Sentinel and Wesker, before being knocked out by a much taller and broader player, Chris G. That bully.

I honestly am not a fan of fighting games. The repetition and memorization required always turned me off. I'd like to think I'm not entirely alone in this...

@Marshillboy I feel the same. Watching this video I had no idea what was happening, I couldn't even see the Hulk for half the thing. I'm surprised the players even know what they are doing themselves, to be honest.

Fighting games are about the love of competition. Plenty of more casual fighters where the combos take second place to reading your opponent.

Yeah, muscle memory skills come easier to some than others. I'm not a good player by any means, but I do respect the skill involved in not only being able to pull off these combos effortlessly, but also have the reaction time and tactical skills to play the game properly.

Yeah I miss the original Street Fighter II days. You were better if you didn't button mash but it was slow enough it didn't make a huge difference. You could get away with knowing a few moves. Now it is so complicated to be good it makes my head hurt.

All competitive games are repetitive.
Shooters, racing, sports, MOBA, Pokemon, WoW, RTS, etc.
Which is why when something unique happens the crowd gets so riled up, someone broke the mold and usually when that happens the player that did so comes out on top.

How is "repetition" an excuse? Isnt that true for anything and everything? Find me ONE sport that isn't doing repetitive mundane tasks.
It may be repetitive but it takes tons of work, practice, execution, and good reflect and reads to go far in these tournaments.

I watched all of his matches yesterday and he was AWESOME! He came out of nowhere and rocked the house. I hope he comes back next year! The entire crowd booed anyone who got the upper hand on the kid. The guy who finally beat Noah was lucky that no one threw anything at him! He was booed to oblivion!

Well yeah, but you can't blame the guy for beating Noah. It's a competition, and the point of it is to beat your opponent, so he can't go easy on him just cause he's a kid.

I definitely hate it when that happens. If they're gonna compete on the same playing field you gotta put bias aside.

Is he just button mashing or is he actually good? I found mvc3 to favor button smashing quite often. But I will not hate the fact that he's holding his own is quite impressive...

@MosDeffa: He wasn't button mashing. He definitely knew what he was doing. Little man was using very simple combos, but he had good enough instincts (and a little luck to keep catching two characters in a combo) to make it to top 48 out of 1500 competitors. Nothing to sneeze at.

MVC3 is Button-Mash City USA 2011Fest. Noobs can rip any average or good player to shreds. Elite players...not so easy. That's what saves the game. If you are an elite player you can wade through the button-mash cheapness this game has.
On a different note, had to be great times for the kid having an auditorium cheer him on. :o)

My favorite part was when ten explosion exploded out of another explosion and shot across the screen, filling it with blinding light which also exploded, raining laser beams and explosions all over the screen.
The better explosion won.

I kinda suck at this game, and it's because I do suck that I can tell you this kid has skills. There is NO WAY a button masher could even make it into a tournament. I get destroyed online by average players, and this kid is much better then average.
I can't wait for him to turn 12, get a headset and see him on COD. This kid has a big and extremely annoying future ahead of him!

@Red Runner I swear it's people like you who make me wonder how ignorant and just plain stupid we as humans really are. Honestly, "I hate donuts. Donuts are stupid. But for some reason I think I want to go to Dunkin Donuts to tell everyone how stupid Donuts are."
If you think that Pro gaming is stupid and EVO is stupid then why in the hell would you bother taking the time and effort to click the link to an article pertaining to the things that you hate and already know you don't approve of only to complain and like an ignorant b*tch?
No you are a troll good sir and have absolutely no life. You thrive off of negative attention from others and you enjoy causing chaos where there is none. Try harder next time scrub.

Noah is a Beast kitten lol. At the rate he is going he will be a monster in fighting games in the years to come. But it must be a tough pill to swallow for the grown men he pwned to make it to the rank #48....getting bodied by a kid in primary school who probably still wets the bed.

Noah actually is 6, not 8. He has a beast Sentinel and Hulk, but his Wesker wasn't too great. Then again... he's 6.
I was there and saw it live, everyone he played against got booed if they were winning. I saw him take out at least two guys in less than 14 seconds.

1 vs 1 fighting games are cool but this "team" 500 vs 500 crap is ridiculous. There's so much chaos on the screen from characters jumping in and out that you can't even tell whats going on.
