It's Naughty Dog all over again. I thought they were owned by Sony during the Playstation 1 days but they weren't bought until 2001 after Jak and Daxter.

I knew Sucker Punch wasn't owned by Sony, but they might as well have been.

Looks like Insomniac was the only developer from the Playstation Trio that was able to resist the Sony purchase.

Is Naughty Dog owned by Sony? I thought it was just Guerilla, and now Sucker Punch...

@(Unverified) I hope they get to produce a new game series. Infamous is awesome but I'd like to see some new IP's, in the way that Insomniac is making both Resistance and Ratchet. Same goes for Guerilla, MM etc...

inFamous 3: The Stabbening.

It's a prequel featuring Cole before he had his powers. Armed with only a knife, he must brutally murder Zeke over and over in as many ways as he can... With said knife. Obviously not canon.

I'll buy 17 copies. Zeke pisses me off something fierce.

Aww, don't be that way. Who can hate his fashion sense, Elvis wanna be hair, the way his body doesn't fit into his pants, and that voice?

OK, everyone.

I don't care about the fashion sense so much as his grating voice and antics. That alone should've allow me to use him as a sacrifice for the Beast, LOL.

Ahhh, Zeke & Rico (Killzone). Two reasons why the option to mute AI partners should be available in every game.

If only every parter could be as cool as Alyx from HL2.

We thought you were implying the evil ending involved you killing Zeke. No harm no foul. Can't wait for that second play-thru, though... now more than ever.

@Airsick. While I won't put in any spoilers (I've finished both good and evil play throughs), simply implying that Zeke is killed in one ending (not confirming or denying) isn't really a spoiler. If the context of said killing was revealed, then it would be a spoiler and a jerk move.
Image The Dark Knight Rises movie. We know Bane is present and a lot of people know the story of Bane's interaction with Batman and the implications therein. Knowing what will happen doesn't change the impact of witnessing it in context.

It's about damn time. Too bad Sony missed the opportunity to nab Insomniac...

Microsoft, take note, this is how you grow your IPs. If you can't build a successful team in-house, get an outside studio to do it for you, then buy them out.

@tendoboy1984 I think microsft tried to buy bungie but in a way they did because lots of bungie(-ers)! People who used to work at bungie joined 343 which I think is owned by Microsoft.

It's too bad because Jak, Crash, Spyro, Ratchet, and Sly would have made a great mascot team for Sony.

Regarding Insomniac, Ted Price (Insomniac's boss/founder/owner), is rather militant about keeping Insomniac independent.

Jak is a Sony property. Crash was sold to Activision before Naughty Dog got bought out by Sony.

What is the benefit of selling your studio and losing independence? I would think that if I had a game company I wouldn't want to suddenly no longer become the owner of something I built.

First of all all of those characters are property of Sony. Even the Ratchet games. Insomniac can't go out and publish Ratchet & Clank for Xbox simply because they are an independent developer as Sony owns the property and characters. The same with the other characters you mentioned, so they could use any character as a mascot.

But, why the need of a mascot? That's so 1980's/90's. Sony itself was the one that made brand work without a mascot since the PS1 with Microsoft following suit. Even Nintendo has changed the branding in the last decade relying less of featuring Mario and more the brand (or console).

In this day and age individual games (and their characters) have more weight than a single brand mascot and it allows each generation to establish completely new characters instead of relying with the same ones from the prior generation.

No, Crash and Spyro were never Sony properties.

Crash Bandicoot:

Spyro the Dragon:
http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4006:kfh8h7.3.3

Notice where it said "REGISTRANT". If it were a Sony property, Sony would be listed on both the REGISTRANT and LAST LISTED OWNER section.

Here's Sly Cooper as an example:
