The next set of bonuses coming to PlayStation Plus subscribers should tickle fans of old-school beat-em'-ups, as well as fans of egregious misspellings. The latest Sega title to serve as an incentive for the premium program is Comix Zone, the 1995 Genesis brawler that was notable for its clever comic-panel backdrop, as well as its inclusion of "Sketch Turner," the worst-named character in the history of written language.
The game will be free for Plus members (and only Plus members) starting August 9, alongside a free DLC pack for Crash Commando and a trial for Far Cry 2. Based on the timing of the past Sega PSN releases, we'd wager Comix Zone will be available for the hoi polloi about one month later.

Oh wow I remember playing this game as a kid on my Sega Genesis. And boy was it hard..

Yeah I am convinced it is impossible. You lose life for making a successful hit. So I will lose health even if I never get hit by an enemy. I could never get past the second level. I think there is only like 4 levels so they had to make the game longer by making it too hard.

@Cind3R I was able to always get to the end, it wasn't hard until the last boss. That boss was almost impossible to kill. There was tons of secret panels to break into in order to get to the end easier. The game wasn't that hard to me.. lol

I couldn't see how a person who doesn't have PS+ could purchase just the the game when you can get Comix Zone and more than 20 other master and genesis games for 15 bucks.
Anyhoots still a good deal for those who do have the PS+ and wants to relive 1995

@Stevetrop Man of Mystery Yeah. I love this game, but I have three copies of it and two of them are playable on current gen consoles. And isn't this the Backbone version which adds those stupid new menus that block you from being able to use the cheats? Screw that.

You're complaining about free Genesis games that you get exclusively a month early?
If that isn't a nice enough justification for going PS+ then you should of been an early adopter and got it when Wipeout was offered, that paid for half of itself right off the bat.

I absolutely agree Faenix... The last few months have been pretty bad for PS+ games. I didn't buy PS+ to play old Sega games, I want games that are actually MADE for my console.

Agreed. STREETS OF RAGE2 was the best one of the 90s. SOR3 was decent but messy, and the FINAL FIGHT series was good but the soundtrack wasn't anything close to SOR. Yes, this includes FINAL FIGHT CD(SegaCD); despite having the full, hilariously dubbed introduction.

Seriously guys, don't buy all of theses genesis games that have be coming out recently. Get the sonic genesis collection. It has most of the awesome Genesis games and then some.

@ShadowXIII You're right. There wasn't even a PC FC2 demo. That's the twist.

Wow, I remember playing Comix Zone when the only "online gaming" was the Sega Channel. The only thing I remember about that game was a horrible synthy voice that sounded like it was saying "hot titties!"

Is it a remake? Does it have better graphics or sound? No? Then I'll stick to playing it on an emulator, or, better yet, play my original copy that I bought for a small fortune 16 years ago!

I never understood why the developers made the player take damage for punching panel edges or inanimate objects to move/tear to the next section.
Other than that, a fun game of the 90s.

Pft, next week? I got it via Playstation Plus today. And it's awesome. I want to buy a Mega Drive and a Comix Zone cartridge right now. Alas, I can't afford to do so right now.
Contradictory to all the negative nancies, I thoroughly enjoy a free Mega Drive/Genesis game every month with Plus. That's three I've got so far since I first signed up (starting with the Welcome Back program), and I'm loving them.
It's nice to have the PS1 games, PSN games and Minis to break it up, but I have to say that the Sega games really take the cake. Heck, I got a bunch of my friends playing during breakfast a few weeks ago when we were on holiday, and we had a blast.
I'm so glad that I can rage quit whilst playing Comix Zone after I finish rage-quitting Rayman and Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2. I dunno, I reckon Mario and Sonic have superior controls to Rayman. But I digress. Comix Zone is AWESOME.
