Xbox Live experiencing service outages, including Black Ops and Reach

If you've been having issues doing stuff on Xbox Live, you're not alone. Well, you are alone, because you can't connect to your online friends, but other people are having problems too.

Since last night, Xbox Live has been having various service outages, reported on its status page. Last night, it was Netflix; today, the site reports issues with creating, managing, and recovering accounts, and with creating, maintaining, or joining matches in Call of Duty: Black Ops and Halo Reach.

We're checking with Microsoft to determine the cause of these outages, and if possible the expected duration. Did the pizza guy trip over a cord, or was it something more serious? Like, maybe some pizza also got into one of the server's vents.

I was texted that they were offering a discount on gamertag name changes, but wasn't certain it was true until Xbox Support tweeted it in the afternoon.

I hope "MettaWorldChief" isn't taken.

There's a chance that the Reach outage could be explained by the changeover from Bungie to 343 (which was scheduled for today).

@djnix901 It's already out in beta form and hasn't caused any issues since it started. I don't think Elite has anything to do with it. Now if it was JUST Black Ops, I'd be considering it.

It isn't pretty when any online service goes down, it gets a lot of impatient people mad.

He probably meant a general demographic. I think of Reach/CoD players as 9-14. (Even though I'm 14..) I just play Battlefield, Gears, and go for achievements. 30,280 Gamerscore xD

COD is just too stale and just re-hashes its gameplay with each new release. Halo is ok though.

The status page says all four parts are up and running. There is NO notice on the status page about partial outages or anything like what is noted in this article. Need more proof, Joystiq! I am in the US.

I was on Reach last night - no issues. So were many other friends...this sounds fake....

As a direct result of this 20 shutins won't die from deep vein thrombosis.
