I think MK can compromise again.
IMO the biggest flaw of MK vs DC was that it was a 3D fighter and honestly it didn't feel like they pushed the T rating as much as they could.

Also considering the SF animes it's not like SF characters haven't gotten bloodied and beaten before.

@Jawmuncher

Capcorn will whore out its IPs for any amount of monies. It would even try Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter the Movie.

I remember 1996 with that great side feature in Alpha with Ryu & Ken vs Bison (2 to 1). Me and my friends would take turns playing 'Save the hostage Street Fighter' leaving Ken unplayed & trying to beat Bison with Ryu alone (Ryu & Ken share the same meter, so any hit on the standing Ken would affect Ryu)

@Jawmuncher - They can compromise, by doing what they're doing right now:

Mortal Kombat X Street Fighter (developed by NetherRealm) -AND- Street Fighter X Mortal Kombat (developed by Capcom).

Having each respective studio work on their own game, it gives them a chance to bring the other studio's respective characters and their universe into theirs and add their own twang to it.

This will allow NetherRealm to rip Chun Li's spine out or have Ryu's head rolling on the ground, but also give Capcom a chance to keep their fighters in-tact.

My question is who wants a SF vs MK though? The closest game that I think would go well with MK in a crossover is Killer Instinct. I feel say its long over due for a decent DC fighter more than anything. Marvel vs DC ....ala MvC2\3, now that's a crossover that people want that's easier said that done.

Yuck, why does Street Fighter win every time in these things. I was hoping for the end scorpions chain was going to stab through Ken and ChunLi as they embraced.

The main reason why MK vs DC did not work out is because for the most part, not many people give a damn about the DC universe.

I'm totally okay with any violence compromises that would be made for Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter. If I recall correctly, MK vs. DC still sold really well, despite the T-rating.

Ryu and Scorpion together in one fighting game is probably a much bigger selling point than some blood and gore.

The Fatalities aren't what Mortal Kombat is all about. Half of the people out there can't pull them off, and the other half get tired of seeing them after the first couple of times.

Street Fighter as long looked down on MK as a mentally unstable, violence obsessed younger cousin, and it shows to this day. Capcom doesn't respect it as a fighting franchise from a design standpoint, which is a shame, because although the actual fighting mechanics are pretty archaic and simple, the special moves and fatalities are as bad ass as they come.

I never would have thought Tekken and SF would mix well, but we're getting two games with that premise. Perhaps MK too can get a crossover with an actual FG universe. I would be too amped for an MK v. Dead or Alive.

I thought MK vs DC was pretty good, the new MK is significantly better but MK vs DC laid a lot of that groundwork. As for compromising on the violence, MkVsDc was pretty violent for a teen rated game I mean they pushed it right to the edge. If lowering the level of violence is what is takes to make Capcom happy then I say go for it.

This just shows that Ono (and probably by extension the whole Japanese fighter scene) thinks of MK as a vehicle for gore, and that there would be no point in having something MK-related without people's spines getting ripped out.

It's true that MK vs. SF will probably not happen in the foreseeable future, but it's more because of Japan's bigoted attitude towards MK than any sort of technical or thematic barrier. It could very well be a great game that satisfied both audiences if it happened.

Ono, you may be good but you need to get off of your high chair. I bet Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat could work. We seen an example of the violence in MK vs DCU and just the few here talking about it are willing to compromise. I wish Boon demoed something for Ono and Co just to show it can work. I hate how he (Ono) thinks MK is inferior to Street Fighter.

Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter is very likely.

You make Capcom bleed enough they'll bend over to anything. So the way I see it, if Street Fighter x Tekken fails MKvSF is next on the list. Unless they wanted to be real douchebags about it and go to literally everyone else first - either way, if we don't buy it, it'll happen.

Capcom's about money now, but I don't need to tell you that. Now if you'll excuse me I have some Final Fight to play on my PS3.

*internet goes out*

I wish they would do a purely dc fighting game. Marvel super heroes and x-men children of the atom were both amazing in their day. Why does the marvel or DC universe need to vs anyone besides their own universe? There are plenty of characters to make a pure dc fighting game.

Or at least some Marvel dlc characters for MK.

These game companies need to stop being pussies. Seeing Chun Li get her head ripped off isn't going to make her any less appealing to anyone who loves Street Fighter or loves Chun Li.

That being said, I'm not so sure it's really about the difference in ESRB ratings as much as it is about Capcom and Warner Bros not wanting to play nice and split profits. They're both corporate monsters, after all.

This has been talked about many times before. I think the discussion really took off in the MKII days.I would even say that it's one of if not THE most dreamed of cross match-ups. Sort of an East meets West thing. Or Hadouken meets Flying Kick.

Thing is, as it was then, there's just too much that has to be agreed upon to make this viable. The two franchises are built on two completely different platforms of gameplay mechanics, art styles, and methodology - regardless of their stances on violence.

The Capcom Vs. SNK games for example were able to mesh the two styles because they have a similar feel. Six buttons for punches and kicks, combos and super moves operated the same way, and they even have characters that parody each other. It just works.

This match-up will have to remain in the world of MUGEN likely from here to eternity.

MK vs SF? No.
MK vs KI? Yes.
Capcom vs SNK 3? Yes.
Darkstalkers vs Guilty Gear? Yes.
Blazblue vs Capcom? Yes.
Capcom vs Jump comics? YES!

Or Capcom could just come up with something new if they learn how to take a chance.
