Gamestop bundling Resistance 3 with PlayStation 3DTV anyway (if you preorder)
54
In an effort to prove that Sony ain't the boss o' them, Gamestop will be bundling Resistance 3 with each pre-order for the now-MotorStorm-infused PlayStation-branded 3DTV, launching this November. It's also possible that Gamestop is simply honoring its existing pre-orders while sweetening the pot to attract new buyers, but where's the fun in that?
As weird as pre-ordering a television set is, having two 3D-capable games certainly adds a little extra something to deal, and when you're spending $500 on anything it's important to get your money's worth. It will be interesting to see if other retailers follow suit, but considering the fact that this is a 24-inch 3DTV, we doubt potential buyers will have room for anything larger than another disc.
[Thanks, MLC!]

I heard that the monitor had a lot of ghosting effects.
Anyways, does anyone know if this thing will work with Nvidia 3D Vision.
If it does, I'm all over it...

If I wanted a new 3D tv, I wouldn't waste my purchase on a small television that has issues

@Mr Hett forgot to reply til now, but engadget article i read says this exactly: "hile the demo units we saw performed their trick reasonably well, visible ghosting and flat, muted colors give us some reservations about that competitive $499 price tag."

It's a monitor(or a display if you feel so inclined,) not a TV.
TVs have tuners built into them, so you can pick up channels. this does not. If you wanted to watch TV on this you'd need to have a cable box, or a PC with a TV tuner, etc.
...Just so we're clear.

@Draugdraugr So its just a monitor? Cool, when I first saw it I thought there was an actual PlayStation 3 inside that thing.

you know.. I'm kinda.. wanting this. The 3D would be a nice bonus, and the two games... well, they would be nice as well. Where the real want comes in is that i was looking for a tv this size for my bedroom, so I could switch it between my PS3, PC, and 360.... hmm..
I think ill look into it and if its good enough, i think i will end up getting this.

Pre-ordering the TV? And I thought pre-ordering DLC was bad...
Honestly I'm surprised GameStop is even stocking the TV. That's a really big item and will take up a lot of space in the back of the store. Most GameStops are pretty small and they don't have all that much space to store stuff in the back. That's one of the reasons it's so hard to find Guitar Hero/Rock Band bundles or instruments. GameStop didn't sell that many of them to start with and they took up a ton of space in the back so they never bothered getting any more. Typically the bigger the item, the less of them they get and I don't see there being a huge demand for a 24" 3DTV at GameStop.

It didn't, though. It's always been a single pair.

Everyone who complains about the size of the display seems to be missing the main draw of the thing: split-screen-less couch co-op. A 24" screen for each player for games that would've otherwise chopped a much larger screen into two smaller halves is awesome.
Posted: Aug 6th 2011 6:57PM Rather Dashing said
@SuperStition For the price of the TV you could buy another PS3 which you can use with your existing televisions and play full-screen(albeit online) multiplayer using your existing televisions and without having to resort to wearing 3D glasses.

But then you'd be paying an extra 60 bucks every time you want to play a co-op game for the second system, versus using the monitor's functionality with just one copy of a game.

This thing better have 2D to 3D conversion.

@Mr Hett
That would be up to the hardware that pushes the image to the display, not the display itself.

Right, so a separate piece of hardware pushes the converted image to the display (in your example it was integrated.) I don't think 3d conversion is as popular as you think, and you pay for having that hardware integrated into your TV, which would make this cost more, probably starting at $100 or more.
Take into account the way the display is shared in co-op games and that might make it even more complex, and in turn expensive.
The inconsistent performance 3d conversion gives (sometimes its fine other times its terrible) is probably also another reason they might not be concerned with it.

They should have a model that costs $200 more with a ps3 system built into the side similar to how new desktop computers are all inclusive.

FYI: This isn't a TV, it is a 3D capable display. It is basically a PS3 monitor.

The one thing that would make this tv worth getting would be the ability to choose which game(s) you want, instead of being forced to get something u wouldnt even play

I want to use this for PC games because I can maintain my resolution. If this is a 1080p monitor and compatible with 3D drivers then it's replacing my current monitor. I have a larger plasma for console games.
