Madden NFL 12, Need for Speed: Shift PSP bundle announced
31
We imagine anybody in the market for a PSP has already gone and tracked one down (or is simply waiting for the PlayStation Vita) but regardless EA and Sony have teamed up on a new bundle. As you may have gathered from the headline to this very post, the bundle comes with a copy of Madden NFL 12 and Need for Speed: Shift. It also throws in the requisite black PSP-3000 and a 2GB Memory Stick Pro Duo, all for $159.99.
Sony will release the bundle on August 30, the same day that Madden will be released on basically every platform in existence including the PSP.
[Thanks, Rahul]

It is called, marketing this to go against the 3DS in a price-range war.
Yea yea, the Vita is going to be released soon but they have to have something that fight off the 3DS NOW.
and PSP isn't a bad system, still pretty good.

But I can get NFS: Shift for $40 on PSN. Why would I want to do it the better way?

Who would buy this knowing the vita is just around the corner?

The only two valid points are that not all games will be playable on the Vita, considering not all PSP games are on PSN and that some people prefer physical media.
Both of these can be fixed by buying an $80 used PSP with far better games than what are offered in this bundle.
Not saying the PSP library isn't worth the $150 pricetag. It is. But if you save up just a $100 more, you get pretty much get the entire PSP library and the future of the Vita library, which will surely be worth the $100 difference even if only a handful of games come out for it.

Someone who wants to play PSP games. Vita's "backwards compatibility" is merely with the expensive and limited PSN PSP library. As a guy who likes to own all systems that have their own exclusive games, why not? Get both, be happy.

At this point, is it really hard to believe people would stop buying a Sony console 6 months before the next system arrives, when PS2's are still selling 5 years after the next generation launched? Also, for 20$ less, the PSP has comparable hardware and graphics than the 3DS. It also has 2 free games and a great, inexpensive back catalog. Even the digital stuff is cheap, despite what people say. they obviously don't check the PSP store often. New games are down to $30 and many classics are $10 or sold in cheap bundles like the metal gear ones.

I love the PSP, but let it go Sony. It's dead. Quit trying to shock it back to life.
Let it be broken down by the last few waves of niche games and go to where it belongs: the hallowed grounds of Last-Gen.

The only reason to buy a PSP right now is to hack it so you can use it as a portable playstation.
And you don't need to buy a game bundle to do that.

The only thing I can think of is that the Vita isn't slated to be released in the US until sometime in 2012. Also, since the PSP really doesn't cost Sony all that much to make anymore, so it's nothing but profit to them. Plus, Sony's not one to drop a console right off the bat, even if a new one is around the corner. Just look at how long the PSOne was around during the PS2's life cycle, and how the PS2 is still kicking, even five years into the PS3's life cycle. One last thing to consider is that there are a ton of games that are only available on UMD at the moment. Plus, there's still the importing thing. There are a bunch of good games that were released only in the UK and Japan that never came to the US, that are also only on UMD.
Now that I think about it, there's still a bunch of good reasons for Sony to pump out the good ol' PSP. It's an affordable system that has a large library of region free games (despite what some would say).

My PSP3000 developed this ring around the edge of the screen that I'd read about online. Usually not that noticeable but it's obviously there... wonder what causes it. :(

Do people actually buy madden on the psp? It seems like sony comes out with a madden bundle every year, but i cant imagine anyone that would want it on the psp...

What's wrong with new bundles for older hardware? The PS2 had 'em, too.
Sony is likely delaying the launch of Vita so that they have killer app software, i.e. Uncharted: Golden Abyss, at launch. They don't want to launch like the 3DS. You have to bring your A game if you want to sell a $250 handheld gaming platform in 2011-2012.

PSP is still worth it since the VIta won't play UMD's.
And despite what some liars say, PSP is worth owning.

Between its price tag and the amount of great games that are available for $20 or less online, in stores or on the psn...it's still a bargain. Whenever I let someone use my PSP, all it takes is a few minutes with something like Peace Walker, Ys 7 or God of War (either one) and they have to have one.
Shame the publicity was so lousy in the USA, the thing is still unrivaled in portable performance, and it's what, 6 year old tech?
