Wow, I totally forgot that I bought this a while back and I haven't played it. Maybe that's a good thing to play tonight.

Me too. Played awhile the first weekend & havn't personally fired it up since.
You may want to check the other options available now though. The top three indie sellers are Minecraft clones at this point & one of them (total miner) actually has survival & RPG elements & limited resources now. I tried the demo & it seems more robust.
My main problem with the dev of Fortress Craft is that he was promising updates in short intervals prior to releasing this "chapter", which was what gave all the fuel to argue his case for not being a blatant minecraft ripoff, and still hasn't dropped the second "chapter" in four months....
Whatever though, good for him making that much cash. Bought it with extra points anyway.

Do you really have to be that snarky, JC? This is an indie dev busting his ass and trying to improve on something he loves. I say good on him.

And I love Minecraft, but I mean it wasn't exactly the first "Minecraft Game" either. It was just the first one to blow up, so don't give it a pass like it came from the heavens.

@An Unnamed Mob

There's a difference between taking a previous idea and improving upon it (which is what was done with Minecraft), and doing little more than right-clicking Minecraft, choosing copy, selecting XBLIG, and hitting 'paste'.

yeah no joke! And why is nobody angry that he's borrowing from Dwarf Fortress? Oh yeah, it's because not enough people have heard of it, so it's A-OK to grab ideas from that.

Pfft.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze Copy-and-paste? Is that what you think programming is?

Oh god that is the single worst, most blatant thing I've ever heard from you people. I'm not even gonna try and argue with you. That's just horrible.

I'd be slightly impressed if he had been able to pull these numbers while coming up a with single original thought of his own, instead of just copy/pasting Minecraft in a sad attempt to cash in on its success.

Sad, but very successful attempt. He made money, which was probably the goal.

Good to know that you've played this, taken an analytical look at what it has achieved and been able to determine that it all came from Minecraft.

Yes. He didn't have to put in a huge amount of development work at all. He just hit CTRL-C his computer and the CNTRL-V on his Xbox and he was done.

Try writing a game. You will have a whole new appreciation for video games. I have been a professional programmer for 10 years and I find writing video games very difficult.

Well, its only $3 instead of $20, so I can certainly see the appeal of Fortresscraft vs. Minecraft. If anything, I can see this game actually benefiting Minecraft. People that don't know what to expect can essentially try out Minecraft for a much more reasonable fee.

How do I say this... This minecraft "genre," is becoming saturated. You can't go on XBLIG without finding like 5 of these minecraft rip offs. People spam me to buy this shiet, but i'm like why am I going to support this? I have minecraft for the computer, and i'll get it when it comes out for Xbox. I find it disgusting that other people would literally profit off of pretty much making a complete carbon copy of something...

You might be going a little overboard on the saturation thing. At last count there were 3 Minecraft type games out of almost 2,000 indie games.

Judging but the posts, I can see few, if any of you are up to date as to what's going on, or played the game.

Notch has publicly state a number of times that he fully supports Minecraft. He even said it on Twitter some time ago, congratulating the title on its success. So a lawsuit is doubtful. Don't know if you can bring a suit against a platform, which you didn't start to begin with.

I reviewed the title when it first launched, and didn't give it a great score, based on a number of things, including lack of iteration and a number of bugs. Since then however, he has addressed all of those concerns, and continued to support the platform and make new additions. For that,, I credit the developer.

Minecraft copied Dwarf Fortress first. Having piss-poor graphics made up of blocks you can destroy is a genre now. Heaven knows, Minecraft needs improving, unless you like infinite futility and have literally nothing else in your life.

I'm glad someone is making money off of XBLIG. Hopefully it will attract more people and better designers. I think MS should devote a column to most all time sales so people can find good games that have fallen off the right now sales maps.
