@risk

Don't cry... because someone made something that is far more creative and excellent than you can ever "craft".

@FakeKevinButler ahahaha minecraft isnt a creative idea, its an old idea, poorly implemented, which took off because everyone loves playing with blocks.

i love me some interactive lego.

$100 for tickets? Most events are way cheaper. Plus travel, etc. that would be like a grand for me to go lol

$140 tickets? The first 500? You win classes and get to eat with Notch? Who does this guy think he is??

Minecraft is cool and everything but.... idk I think this guy thinks that this 'beta' he made is the greatest video game ever and that hundreds even thousands of people are all gonna flock to Las Vegas for a Mine Craft convention...

a 2 day event so he can talk about minecraft and then press a button to unlock the game for everyone?

I just don't understand :/

When you make 2 million dollars off of a game that has not been released yet, you get to act like this and good for Notch.

@(Unverified) Hey, you may feel that way, and more power to you. But there's an intense, fanatical devotion to Minecraft, more than I've seen for most games. If anything could get people to come out to Vegas and pay hundreds, apart from Call of Duty, it's probably Minecraft.

I bet there's someone who's willing to pay $500 flatout for a dinner with Notch.

Guess what?

They actually LOSE money on this. You realize that the reason PAX tickets are around 70 is because they subsidize that cost with incredible advertising revenue, the fact that vendors PAY incredible amounts to be there, etc. The reason that they're 100-140 is because they AREN'T Penny Arcade, Blizzard, etc.

I...what? How did you extract *any* of those subtexts from this announcement? The "ultimate fan experience" is a *prize* for superfans. Some people like such things, and it's a good fan-focused gesture.

Granted, Minecraft superfans are more likely to froth at the mouth and curse Notch for not patching in winged mounts and capes for THEM AND ONLY THEM.

It isn't so much that "he thinks this 'beta'...is the greatest video game ever," but that he has a millions-strong fanbase. What else can you do with fanbases like that? Hell, Blizzard's done it for ages. Even if it's a one-off thing to get it out of everyone's systems, it's certainly not an inconceivable move.

He's said on twitter that the event is just for fun and no matter what happens the event will be a loss in profit. He just wants to meet fans and discuss the game.

hmm well then after actually reading through all of the posts full of valuable information I was unaware of. :)

I understand that there's a huge fan base and people are crazy about minecraft... It's also an excuse for minecraft cosplay and for people to possibly show off all their awesome minecraft stuffs. And since the game is in beta, it is possible that there is a lot of stuff that this "full release" will have in it that Notch can talk about on stage. And I can't wait to see the cosplays lol

Even with all this, I still think that this Minecon is very unecessary and a bit silly to have a convention for an unreleased game to release a game. I just don't I can take it completely seriously until maybe next minecon :)

@Kayonesoft I dunno, he's a guy with almost 300,000 twitter followers that move at his whim, almost 23,000 hits for "minecraft podcast". Minecraft is being used in elementary schools for motor skills and team exercise. It's been the centerpiece of deadmau5 concerts. It's had enough community politics and intrigue to rival EVE Online. All before a final fully priced release which has already made WELL over thirty million Euro. Not USDs, Euros which are actually worth something.

Really he's a dude from Sweden who made an incredibly popular game that doesn't have a plot and doesn't involve killing other people. As far as I'm concerned he can have a seat at the same conference table as Alexey Pajitnov. That's a really weird thing to say, but eff it, the guy can have his Las Vegas conference and you can remain puzzled about the nature of success.

Unfortunately yes. I have to go to conventions for work. That is the only reason I would want to go to a convention is if I am getting paid.

This just in: People proclaiming to do the "Green Team" have threatened to destroy the event through a series of suicide bombings.

Participants are encouraged to look out for people jumping around blocks, possibly in green.

Why don't we get a TF2 convention? We get this, and Minecraft's not even out of beta! At least get a convention, Valve. For our sake.

Vegas is actually one of top, if not the #1(depending on the source), convention cities in the US. Having it here is actually not a odd as is may seem. As a local I can tell you, there are CONSTANTLY several random conventions running at any given time.

This is insane. People, stop justifying this. Anyone who goes to this is doing so just to prove they are fanatics and part of a movement. I don't care how many twitter followers the guy has. And I'm not insulting the game as I have never played it but I respect peoples love for it.
