SpyParty early access pricing solidified (also: appear in the credits!)

We know you're sick of hearing people gush about Chris Hecker's thrilling duel of wits and subterfuge, SpyParty. Though we sympathize, there's really only one antidote and that's to become one of those people yourself. The quickest way to do that is by paying for beta access, and Hecker solidified exactly how much that'll run you today.
As we learned in May, the base rate for early entry will be $15, which includes the full game when it launches on PC and -- down the road -- Mac (free console copies likely won't happen). But, and this is the new bit, if that fee just doesn't seem like enough, you can give $50 or more and have your name included in the game's credits. Hecker stresses that beta access will be just that, with no other in-game perks, badges, awards etc. for early birds.
Apparently, Hecker wasn't listening after all those early SpyParty sessions when we offered him "Anything! Anything! Take it all! Just one more game!" with tears streaming down our faces and wallets upturned. Probably for the best.

I'm still confused why Joystiq hypes this game so much press. Was Chris Heckler Justin's old roomate? Did Ben swallow the pot that one time they got pulled over, and now he's calling the favor back?
Or is it like totally the most awesome gave ever and I'm totally missing something here?

Yeah I think this game will suffer from Scribblenauts Syndrome. Lots of gaming media hype for a mediocre game.

I think the gameplay demonstrations and the overall brilliant ideas coming frm Spy Party prove you all wrong.
But you never know...

I wonder this too especially since I played the game in person and did not enjoy it. It feels like a minigame that could have been better distilled and thrown into a bigger game like a James Bond type thing. There's no weight to the game-play.

It's because:
1) It's an ORIGINAL idea.
2) It's done atleast decently
3) It's an "indie" game.

Original?
Maybe I'll be wrong, but to me this sounds like stripped down assassin Quake... or yeah Assasin's creed even.

If I had to guess, the guys at Joysitq are super-buds with Chris, and they're promoting the poop out of it because they like him personally. That seems like the most likely reason.

To me this seems like a smaller indie version of assassin's creed multiplayer. Perhaps we could get a Joystiq article "Why you should want Spyparty" because so far I know near nothing of this game other than the fact Joystiq wants me to have it.

I love the idea so I would probably jump at the $15 to get into the beta & get the full version but I'm on a Mac so there's no point in me paying yet until that version ends up being available.

I'm pretty psyched for the game. I think I signed up for the mailing list. Haven't seen anything in a while, though. And I believe there's nothing close to a release date, which also sucks.

This game looks like it'll offer up hilarious moments with friends. I like games that require subtle actions.

It sounds like "The Ship" except with fewer players and options.

I don't understand this at all. Why do Indie game developers with NO track record think that they can charge $15 for a game that seemingly has almost no content?
$5? Sure. $10? Probably, yes. $15 is just a little high. I was super pissed that I paid $22 for Minecraft, I really hate that game. I guess if people buy it you can charge that much....As much publicity as Joystiq is giving it they'll probably sell a million copies.
Is Joystiq PUBLISHING the game? Maybe this is their way of telling us that they're getting into the publishing game.....Probably not.....But jeez.

@trinica
Also, paying for beta access is just weird. Beta is for seeing just how many people are interested in your game and are going to actually stick to it, as well as finding glitches.....I'm sure the $15 tag on BETA access will turn off a lot of people, even if it does sort of serve as a pre-order. It's just odd to me.
