WOW! I was not expecting such a stellar review. I mean I expected a GOOD review, but not this. Well I'm definitely hopping off the fence then. While I did like the demo I wasn't sure if it was a total purchase. That settles it.

I hope you hate the game after buying it and stop listening blindly to reviews and buy stuff based on gameplay trailers and your own curiosity now and then after that if it happens,

Even if there“s the possibility that I like this game and everyone likes it.

I really enjoyed the demo and I'm a sucker for imaginative experiences (mirrors edge, little big planet, katamari etc) but my current problem is I don't have enough time to play the games I already have! I'm going to have to hold off on buying any games unless I trade some older stuff in. So, I'll unfortunately have to wait to play this masterpiece as well as the new deus ex next week.

I didn't really like the demo, I nearly wore my thumb off just killing the regular enemies. Maybe I wasn't using combos effectively but it felt like every random battle took like 5 minutes. And then I fell into a pit that I didn't know was a pit and got taken back to do the same fight again.

@Kadrom Were you purifying your weapon when it turned red/black? If you don't, fights will last much longer than they have to. If you do, you'll take out an enemy with a few combos.

Wow the review is really the opposite of what I experienced in the demo, still not buying it as I hated what I experienced. The game is very unique and I appreciate what they did but in the end I found it boring and annoying which is rare for games to get that kind of reaction from me.

Ah.. I thought I was the only one with that idea.
The graphics had me vomiting rainbows.. but the gameplay was kind of 'meh'.

Uhmmmm....what? As I said in a previous topic, was something missing from the demo I played? The graphics were below-PSN standards and the mechanics plain generic. Well, I guess I have to rent it. At least redownload the demo.

Technically I thought some the graphics were a little sub par but the art direction was top notch all round.

it why people will play mario, or the god of war collection or shadow of the colossus.

That was my experience too. The gameplay was boring and repetitive and the graphics looked like an up-rezzed N64 game. If it continues to get good reviews across the board I might check it out when it's $10 but I have a hard time believing it was improved that much from the demo.

I think the art direction was very hey-see-how-artsy-our-art-direction-is-ishy. Journey, now that was a unique game in that field. God of war and team ico games were above else brilliant gameplay-wise. Now, about the Mario games and why people still play it, that remains a mystery to me.

Eh? I found the platforming to be the most infuriating part of the demo. Especially since a lot of the jumps were hard to gauge the distance of properly.

How long is the game, 10-12 hours? Are there multiple difficulty settings?

come on Fletcher, holding out a little bit for a 4 1/2 star review.

@blessrok thank god for it. Most reviews of Child of Eden said the game was 90 minutes when it is hours and hours long. The unlocks are basically completely different games.

Joystiq please keep a game's length off of reviews. Or make it an insignificant part.

Yeah, because we don't mind spending 60 bucks on a generic platformer without even knowing if it 'll last us more than a day. Unless of course there is an unlockable in this game for a mode callled "Actually Interesting".

@(Unverified) It's about 12-13 hours on your first playthrough, then you unlock two new modes, an optional HUD, and Score Challenge with rankings for each level and online leaderboards, plus new outfits and some other goodies depending on how many secrets you find in the game. Lots of replay value IMO.

Maybe this was just a case of the demo not being representative of the game? Because the demo had bad combat, bad visuals and bad platforming. The art direction was interesting, but this was definitely one of the worst demos I've ever played.

@Hayves think about it a lil more...it's probably not the worst demo you've ever played.

I don't know. I liked the demo and gave it more than a couple spins. Once I noticed what the reviewer mentioned about the combos and breaking in between button presses, the combat got deeper. It made me venture into the other weapon a little more.

@blessrok I'd put this demo second worst (that I've played) on the 360 to Quantum Theory. Overall it's probably top 5 worst I've ever played, though to be fair I don't really remember many bad demos from my ps2 days, must have blocked them out.

I wasn't too bowled over by the demo either, but I guess you never know. I think it looks cool... but based on the demo, my main concern was that the fights just dragged on way, way too long.

Maybe that's different in the full game, but some people seem to like that too... I had the same opinion of Dishwasher Samurai. Sometimes it's just not satisfying to have to punch a generic enemy 50 times before it goes down.

@Softserve You probably weren't purifying your weapon when it became defiled (turning red/black). If you don't, you'll do next to nothing in damage and fights will go on way longer than they should. Think of it as a reload mechanic. A purified weapon should take out an enemy with a few combos.

I found the combat incredibly shallow and from those who have beaten the Japanese version, it doesn't fair much better throughout the game.

This seems like another case of style over substance, like Prince of Persia 2008 and Enslaved. Disliked both of those "visual gems".

It lacked depth and challenge. It also was too repetitive for every zone of the world. The art style was what defined it.

The demo didn't sell me on the game. The one button combat is interesting but DMC3 and bayonetta have similar conventions on top of their other systems.

I figured there might be some merit in a kirby-like power stealing system when I saw the different weapons you could get in the demo...then I found out there were only THREE in the game. So much for that.

On top of that, at one point during the demo I fell off the stage at low health and died, causing me to sit through possibly the longest load screen I have ever seen on a console game. Easily twice what Splatterhouse 2010 had. That's a big flashing red sign of NOPE for me. If this is fixed in the final game then it's fine though.

So, yeah. I like artsy fartsy games, I don't wanna see Ignition die and this game still does look interesting. Just not enough for me to get past what I played in the demo.

My new game season starts off next week with Deus Ex and continues right through the holiday season. If I play this, then it will be a rental from Blockbuster Online sometime after Christmas, but before Borderlands 2.

With the underwhelming demo, I can't really put this on my purchase list, most likely a rent. It's not that its not worth $60 - its that I don't believe I'll enjoy it more than all the other awesome games coming out soon. If it were released a month ago, I might have bought it. I'm already planning on Deus Ex, Madden, NHL12, Disgaea 4, Batman, Rage, Silent Hill, Ico/SotC HD remake, Dark Souls, and of course Skyrim. That's a LOT of competition for a game.

When funds are tight, sometimes its often the artistic and unique experiments that get pushed into the dark corridors of gamers' backlogs.
