That was the first thing I noticed too. I wasn't looking forward that blindingly white dash. I already hate the white menu items the last refresh added.

Okay, but when I want to "search" for something, can I just say "search" instead of bing?

Or at least use a synonym people actually know and use already, like "Xbox, google batman"

@Author X The idea is try and get people to think of "Bing" as a verb, much like people now use "Google" as a verb when referring to looking stuff up on the web.

Which will never happen. I don't "Bing" stuff. "Bing" doesn't mean anything. Sure, neither did Google, but at least Google did something new that lead to it becoming a verb. MS is basically just trying to "me too" w/ Bing.

Yeah, I was just being snarky. It's almost sad that they're trying so hard to get people to use it as a verb - like they think that using the word "google" helped the search engine be so ubiquitous, when it's the other way around.

Or to put it another way, forced meme is forced.

Microsoft is pretty bold. They already cash in from everyone being forced to pay for online gaming. Now they're recording data on everyone for targeted ads and marketing. I guess this is how everyone but Nintendo will be doing business from now on.

@afrosheen Nintendo probably would do the same thing if they had any idea what this "internet" thingamajig was.

How is that bold? Google has been doing that for years. And its their main source of income. They should correctly target ads, make themselves more money, then lower the price of gold.

Another update? I'm not sure I've gotten the last update yet. I need to turn on my poor neglected XBOX once in a while. If only I could figure out a way to game on multiple systems at once, then I could play all of the games that I want to.

@YourMomsLover

WHOA, hostile!

Some of us have been using these outdated machines for 5-6 years now and are ready for something. Don't get mad at me because you're a late adopter and you want more time with these beastly 720p monsters. I really don't understand gamers like you. You guys see games like Metro 2033, Battlefield 3, and Crysis 2, that look beautiful on PC, but you'd rather play them in 720p 30fps and med settings. We could be playing games they way they were meant to be played, but you guys want the big 3 to keep milking console. WTF is wrong with you? The greatest thing of all is that no one is forcing you to buy a new console if it comes out, so if you're truly fine with the current consoles, then go back to playing CoD at sub-HD resolutions. But I will keep on demanding new consoles because I'm tired of this low res, low detail crap and the only other option shouldn't be "buy a PC."

Will the new dashboard make all my themes relatively useless like the last big update? And then they'll come out with Super Premium Themes and charge $10 for them? Because if there's one thing I want it's more ways to give MS money.

Yeah Bing Modio, or search you know what I mean (oh man it's catching on), and then you'll be happy even though yes they do seem to be taking up more of the theme's space. Make your own is what I'm saying (I still have a few themes I paid for as well.)

They are trying to make it more like Metro with every update.
Which is an evolution of MCE, which XMB ripped off.

@Ordeith

XMB is not a rip off of MCE. Of course, I don't think MS is ripping off XMB either, though I see why some think that since they switched the main menu from vertical to horizontal. But, really, vertical vs horizontal menus? those have been round forever.

I still think this whole hand-waving, hand-hovering-to-select is silly and awkward. I'm sure something great will come from all this innovation and technology at some point; I just don't want to be the guinea pig right now.

LOL the grey blob from NXE is now a blue blob. Why can't they just make the wallpaper image go across the entire screen?!

Also wouldn't it be faster to have voice commands and a controller then Kinect? By the time you hold your hand out and wait you could have selected it faster with a controller. I have kinect, I would know.

See how that spokesdude in the zip sweater has to hold his arm out, with the glazed look in his eye, to move the Kinect hand? Navigating the dashboard with Kinect is a chore. MS is pushing this tech system wide and I'll still reach for the controller to do everything.
