While some folks in the X-Men universe didn't have much of a choice in their particular mutation, the characters of X-Men Destiny seem more than happy to forfeit their boring old humanity for a taste of the wild side. That very choice becomes yours when X-Men Destiny launches next month.

Another X-Men Legends game would have been so much better.

"Destiny Control" sounds a lot like probability manipulation (Longshot, Domino, Black Cat, Scarlet Witch) but that wasn't really what it looked like in the trailer.

Holy cow! I am an idiot who apparently can't read...
Thank you. Density control makes a LOT more sense when paired up with those powers...

This... looks seven years old. I'm dying to love it, but there's no spark.
What did I ever ask? A sandbox, old school canon X-Men game where you can fling a car through a building, bringing it down.
Also bloody as all hell

I wonder if this is coming along any better. Early previews of it did not sound good.

I choose Magneto's power set plus Wolverine's healing factor.
What's that? I can't have those? But you said...
Okay, I choose Apocalypse's power set.
Oh, I can't have that either? Well... what can I have?
Lasers, rocks, and shadows? Okay, well, I guess thats...
Lasers, rocks, OR shadows? O.......kay?

I hope this doesn't suck, because First Class made me realize just how awesome it would be if there were a Mass Effect-style game where you create your own mutant, and then assemble a team of other mutants and do whatevs. Legends was awesome, but character customization just wasn't there if I remember correctly.

@OneManFreakShow I'm really bummed actually. When this was first announced I thought a Hogwarts style take on the school at Greymalkin Lane was in the offing crossed with a make your own mutant (I guess like Mass Effect, though Fallout and others work).
But here we have 3 pre-established characters, or rather they are who they are and we chose whoever strikes our fancy. This would have flown more in the last gen but not so much now.

What they should have done was make this a sandbox game and let you give your character what ever powers you want.

Don't "choice" and "destiny" play counter to each other, by definition? Is any choice really a choice if it's also your destiny?
Oh, and this game looks like smelly poop butts.

I would be approximately 1,200 times more excited about this game if I could create my character from scratch. Pasting pre-existing power templates onto pre-designed characters isn't really much of a choice. I don't know why developers don't put character editors in more games. I get attached to video game characters in two circumstances: if their backstory is great, or if they look exactly like me.

The powers for energy manipulation and shadow don't look much different other than the colour pallet. Not enough difference in my opinion.
This could be better if set up like Oblivion skills. You can potentially use any power based on usage. But have drawbacks at levelling up a particular skill. For example, if energy manipulation gets above level 20, it locks out it density control so it can't go above level 3 or something. So the more you increase a skill/power, the more limited you are in other powers. But those one or two core powers kick arse.

@rartemass I'd assume that's partially what's going on. There are hundreds of powers but other than very few or in rare specific circumstances there are really only a relatively small number of actually fundamental different powers.
I'd figure it would be a crossover of chosen power and then theme to give them some unified look.
