Dance Central sales step up to 2.5M, Kinect Sports kickin' it with 3M

Kinect Sports and Dance Central have reached 3 million and 2.5 million unit sales, Microsoft's Michael Johnson, global marketing director for Kinect games, told us at Gamescom earlier today. Dance Central has performed stronger in North America, while Kinect Sports has found a larger audience in Europe.

Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg called the two games Kinect's "breakout hits" for the publisher when he announced back in January that the titles had reached a million sales in the US. The Kinect device surpassed 10 million units globally in March.

So, it probably comes as no coincidence that both franchises will receive sequels this year. Dance Central 2 talks to the hand this October, while Kinect Sports: Season 2 has a retail field day on October 25.

Yes, if you are planning on getting Kinect, these are the best games so far and they're only ones that really deserve a purchase. They are a lot of fun and are a blast with friends, but more importantly, they actually work really well.

@blunote - Why, did Child of Eden get a shit ton of free DLC that I wasn't aware of?

Don't get me wrong, it was a fantastic game but I'd be hard pressed to call a five level game worth a $50 purchase.

Kinect Sports is the best game for kinect. I don't know why I bought kinect and PS Move.

Helps when those are the only two half-decent games for the thing.

I dont have the space, or the desire, to own one. :]

Kinect is still early for the technology now that it's maturing past what it was years ago. There is tons of promise but I think when MS launches their next console, the new version of Kinect (I'm assuming they will do a Kinect 2.0) will be even better. Current one has a lot of limitations (resolution, 2 people max pretty much, 'finger tracking', etc...) so it has room to grow.

@Jonbo298 - I wouldn't expect the two player limit to ever go away. A lot of people are complaining about not having enough room for two players simultaneously... The number of people that would have the room for more than that is almost non-existent.

@Co - Yes, those millions of sales that the article is about is really quite tragic.

If Dance Central isn't hardcore for you then you're either too in love with the thought of being a "gamer" (in other words, an ass) or you're actually Darrin from Darrin's Dance Grooves.

Get back to me on that, because I totally want your autograph if it's the latter.

The only game i have for Kinect is Dance Central, I didn't even buy it, got it from that Old Navy deal and gave the the clothes away.
