Gamescom, the largest video game convention on the planet, is still going strong in Germany through the weekend. We've already heard and seen plenty, with more to come. There was also a healthy amount of stuff from GDC Europe, which took place prior to Gamescom in Cologne.

What's everyone playing?

Alexander Sliwinski (@XanderSliwinski): Recovering from Gamescom by writing Gamescom previews, which includes stuff like Anno 2070, Lollipop Chainsaw and more when I look through my notes. Won't be home until Sunday, so I won't be playing much of anything this weekend.
Ben Gilbert (@BigBossBgilbert): Uhhhhh ... man, what aren't I playing? You already know about Modern Warfare 3 and Escape Plan, but I also spent time this week with Anarchy Reigns and Resistance: Burning Skies. Also playing, "Buy so, so many Haribo gummibears."
Christopher Grant (@ChrisGrant): Last weekend was dedicated to BioShock 2's Minerva's Den DLC which, if you haven't played it, is excellent. Now I'm playing Duke Nukem Forever since my 16-year-old self insists on it. It's ... not so excellent.
David Hinkle (@DaveHinkle): I'll be playing a bit of Child of Eden and attempting to wrap up these Summer of Arcade XBLA titles.
Griffin McElroy (@griffinmcelroy): Madden NFL 12. THIS IS WHO I AM NOW.
JC Fletcher (@jcfletcher): I'm playing Bloodrayne Betrayal, a game with a title to which only Nathan Explosion can do justice.
Jess Conditt (@JessConditt): School started this week, so I'll release some aggression with Black Ops. And maybe laser tag.
Jordan Mallory (@Jordan_Mallory): They were all out of Road Boxer Triple Punch, so I had to get Street Fighter Third Strike.
Justin McElroy (@JustinMcElroy): I tried playing El Shaddai, but I ... didn't care for it. I don't know, maybe more Toy Soldiers: Cold War?
Ludwig Kietzmann (@LudwigK): I'll be yelling at my wretched DSL connection until I'm hoarse. Oh, and I'm playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
Mike Schramm (@MikeSchramm): I'm trying to slog through disc 3 of LA Noire just so I can finish it.
Richard Mitchell (@SenseiRAM): I gotsa finish Bastion. Maybe throw in a round of League of Legends and hopefully some more (real life) Carcassonne.

Wishing I was playing Xenoblade, but actually playing through Bastion. Some handheld games this weekend with Legend of Heroes: Tear of Vermillion and any other PSP games I have find. May try to play Tomb Raider: Anniversary on Wii.

I need to stick to my plans. My gaming life has been hectic and disorganized lately, and I barely got to play much last weekend.

My week, however, was met with a little treat: I found Warhawk in my game room, and naturally I said I declared it was time to give it a spin. And my, my, is it a blast. It really is, and it only makes me crave more flight-based games.

Now, finishing Arkham Asylum is a priority, and I'll probably sneak in some Super Meat Boy, I'm sure of it. The rest is improvisation.

I also got some 'Stiq-casts to catch up on, as well!

So what is it? Das Gamescom, right?
Thanks to some big summer sales, I'm catching up with my Bioware catalog, currently Dragon Age.

It's "die" as in female. It actually says so on their website multiple times.
For example:
"Die gamescom 2011 ist die weltweit größte Handels- und Medienplattform der Branche." for "the (die) gamescom is the biggest trade and mediaplatform of this industrial sector (gaming) worldwide".

Got my Wii back from repairs after a motherboard failure, though they actually just replaced it. They saved my save data, but only my save data. My VC games (but oddly not the game save data for my VC games), my Miis, my friends list, all gone.

Smash Bros rejected being transferred to a new console altogether, so it made me format my file when i tried to initialize. Mario Kart i preserved, haven't tried some of the other online-enabled games (the friend codes are bound to the console, so the game save with the friend code is bound to the console, and if moved, i may very well be banned from online, or have to format if i wish to play online again for some of these)

So i have to put everything back in Brawl, and i'm playing Okamiden, which has some surprisingly clever challenges and a great degree of originality despite occurring in the same "world" as Okami

Gonna get Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet and try to marathon it with friends tomorrow.

Still trying to finish my replay of Metroid Prime 2. Hopefully I'll get around to some OoT3D, and I also want to hook up my SNES and enjoy that a little. Oh, and I need to knock out a bunch of DLC that I bought and never played, starting with that extra chapter for Gears of War 2. Oh, and I just started getting more hours at work so I don't actually have time for any of this.

Catherine, LOZ:OOT 3DS, and RE: Mercenaries 3D got me wanting to play RE5 again so maybe a bit of that. Basically killing time until Deus Ex: HR Tuesday!

Nothing but Borderlands! Still got some of the DLC to make my way through. I might play some Reach as well, but that solely depends on if my friend gets on.

@ProfessorBonkle Im currently trying to finish my (glitched) General Knoxx game, start claptrap revolution and finish mad moxxi larger coliseums.
Maybe we could help each other out, scratchin backs and all that?

well i got half life,okami,afro samurai, the orange box, gta4 plus dlc and a couple anime dvds to finish

Super Mario Land on the 3DS and trying to gold all of the levels and get some achievements on Halo Wars. Also been on a Reach kick since I just finished up the campaign on Legendary. "If they came to hear me beg" was the most satisfying achievement I've ever gotten.

Bastion, Bastion and some more Bastion. Can't get enough of that at the moment. And probably some multiplayer RDR as well.

El Shaddai and a new game+ for Bastion. Both are really excellent. @_@

Probably some GTA 4 and Bad Company 2. School starts this week so I'm gonna enjoy my last weekend of summer.

I just wrapped up Shadow Hearts: From the New World. It's always sad whenever I finish off a series, but I'll always have fond memories those four very weird, very awesome games.

As of right now, I'm on the edge of finishing off Paper Mario for the N64 VC on the Wii and Tales of the World for the PSP. I'm also still slogging through Enchanted Arms for the PS3. Does that game ever end? I really want to finish it off so I can get started on Blue Dragon for the 360,

Wrapping up Xmen Origins Wolverine, then trying out Marvel Ultimate Alliance. If I like it, I'll roll with that. If not, I will take the plunge into LA Noire.
And perpetually playing Words with Friends.

Catherine and getting a few close friends caught up in Borderlands.

Gonna be finishing The Last Rocket if all goes well. Soon as I get some money, I am going to finally pick up Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. I've never played an Assassin's Creed game before.

You don't have to, but I recommend playing AC1 and AC2 first. I was given AC:B as a present and picked up the other two very cheap. I'm near the end of AC2 now and can't wait to get to Bro'hood.

If you can only play one of the first two, AC2 is far superior. AC1 is okay but 2 was a huge improvement in every aspect.

Working towards 2 mil credits in Reach, going for incliment weather, only half a mil to go!

I've been really failing at keeping up with new releases lately. I still haven't beaten Bulletstorm, or even AssCreed Bros! Continuing that trend this weekend by replaying Dragon Age in the dark with some fancy new headphones and immersing myself in the role of noble warrior as much as I can. Hopefully once I finish that I can finally work on my (new) backlog

Just bought Deus Ex: HR, Bastion, Limbo, and From Dust on Steam. Currently playing through the latter. Not seeing the terrible PC version bugs everyone is complaining about, even though I agree there is very little room for customization of graphics, etc. On the other hand, the most important settings are present, and it's more like an experimental indie title than a graphical powerhouse anyway. The controls are slightly awkward, but not horrible at all. Nope, definitely not the disaster I was afraid it would be. I'm really enjoying it so far.

It is "das" GamesCom. GamesCom is foreign and thus is das. I am German and also the website says it.

no, sorry, it isn't "das", it is "die". Fully spoken it is "die Gamescom-Messe" or "die Gamescom-Veranstaltung", making the shorthand female too. It is also used female on the website by the way ("Die gamescom 2011 ist die weltweit größte Handels- und Medienplattform der Branche.")

don't think you are a native German speaker. The GamesCom is a Convention or "Messe" in German. And the Word "Messe" is female. It's definitely "Die Gamescom".

But maybe your like me an austrian citizen and tend to confuse "der Teller" with "das Teller".

Heavy Rain? ehhh... not so much. Too much movie, not enough game.

Dissidia 012 which is kind of eh compared to the original IMO. I don't like how they force your character choices for the story.

Also planning a massive Gears/Gears2 campaign run through next week.

It's Germany, and ridiculously white. The most ridiculous racial profiling I've ever personally witnessed was in Germany. Baseless harassment, plenty of it.

Hey Joystiq - By the time I finally got around to the WRUP post on Friday it was already buried on the second page. It's one of my favorite recurring features here, as I would it imagine it is for many of your consistent readers/commenters.

Anyway you could keep it visible, posted higher, something? It's the closest thing you have to an actual community forum and it seems like it kind of gets blown off.

Annnnnnd, I'm continuing to blow a silly amount of time on Lost Odyssey. Same old, same old. Also, I finally got around to the Catherine demo. Really lame, but unique. Glad I jived with the Giantbomb review I read on that one.

I finally picked up Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and Portal 2, so I'm loving diving into each of those.

Also still working through Borderlands and the ubiquitous Minecraft.
