Geez... Those are some long load times on all three tests.

If this game takes more than 10 seconds to load on my PC's HDDs, I'm installing it on my SSDs.

and before anyone starts saying, "oh oh its only 15 - 20 seconds more"
Remember, that all these loading times add up.

I remember playing Mass Effect 2 on 360 and then be surprised on how fast the loading times were on my PC, when I played it again. 35 Seconds vs. 3 Seconds.

Yes I am an impatient gamer and my hype for this game is too MUCH for me to be waiting on loading screens =)

@Dance Mofo

This would load in approximately 45-60 days on my PC, factoring the shipping/repair/shipping manufacturing center after my PC seized and died trying to run this game.

Hehe, there's an easy way to get around some of the loading times without installing it on your SSD:

Don't die!

@Cijna Frost Nope I'm more interested in the 20+ seconds it needs in the first place. Glad I went with the PC version instead of my trusty 360 this time.

@Cijna Frost I don't care about the four-five second difference between the 360 and PS3 versions, but good GOD those are some long loading times in general. I really don't relish the idea of waiting that long after every combat death. That's insane.

For 5 seconds I thought that the time was in minutes. Then for another 5 seconds I thought about posting this comment for fear of labeling myself as an idiot. It took another 15 seconds to type this message.

I started playing my copy about 2 hours ago, and loading times, while definitely shorter than these ones, are still a fair bit long imo, and yet my machine has 2133Mhz DDR3 ram in it with an HDD that benches @ 122MB/s read, game in DX11 if it makes a difference. Basically what I'm saying is, don't expect near instant load times like you would most games. Not sure how an SSD would fare though.

I've pulled out a stopwatch and timed a few of the loading scenes, and it seems that on my machine, loading my quicksave into the main "city streets" from the main menu which is the largest area that I've encountered in the game, and the longest to load, took exactly 20.1 seconds, while entering buildings, such as the police station, apartments etc. takes between 5-10 seconds.

But does anyone remember the ORIGINAL unpatched Deus EX on PC? or better yet, the PS2 version's load times? I could swear I remember waiting sometimes 2 minutes just to load a tiny area, or maybe it just felt that way.

way to further advance the pursuit of fanboyism IGN. i really think people would pick a system for more than a 5 second difference in load times.

@LexStewther I always got the impression that this was more for people with both systems who were trying to decide which version to get.

I wouldn't pick one system to buy over another over something like that, but I would pick one version of the game over the other over it.

That said, I already picked it up for the PS3 today. Five seconds isn't enough to justify bringing it back and getting the 360 version.

i agree...same goes for the graphics comparisons. they don't make these videos to fuel some dumb fanboy war, but instead to inform multiple console owners on which version performs the absolute best...it's one thing to speak on the...err, integrity, of the so-called writers over at IGN, but it's a whole other thing to criticize them for something they aren't doing.

You don't care about load times, you don't watch the video. It doesn't hurt you that other people are informed.

I've owned both consoles, I think this is quite a handy tool, not just for gamers but for helping keep developers in check and to not just lazily port titles across the formats. 4 seconds difference says they did a good job given the PS3's slight memory restrictions. Also, any PS3 owner could quite easily throw in a SSD and blow the timings out of the water if really necessary.

I would agree with you if IGN didn't perform such a flawed test. How you can perform a HDD loading test without specifying the RPM of each consoles HDD is beyond me. Some 360 HDDs are 7200 RPM while the stock PS3 is at 5400.

He's right. The PS3 doesn't have the right controllers to take advantage of an SSD (hell, my PC can't squeeze close to 100% performance out of my Vertex II and it's 45nm Core2!), so installing one would offer almost no advantage. The only game that's slightly better with one is Gran Turismo 5.

I don't think that it's darker, it looks like the colors are just more robust and richer. Same thing with Red Dead, The PS3 was brighter and more washed out looking, like someone left the gamma up to high.

Look at the keycard reader screen, the PS3 is brighter, but it also looks so colorless and lifeless.

Agreed. There seems to be a trend with multiplatform games having better contrast on 360 in general. AC, GTA, Bayonetta, and several others do the same thing.

Good points. Usually when loading occurs and I want a break, I hit the guide button (I have a 360) and when loading is done, the game resumes, realizes I have the guide menu up, and the game freezes even if it's a cutscene. When I return, I just hit the guide button again, and maybe unpause, depending on the game and whether it's a cutscene.
