- Eurogamer (90/100): "Deus Ex: Human Revolution is probably not as perfect as I'm making it sound. Some of the rules about what's interactive and not seem quite arbitrary, which is a pretty blatant failing in a game which tries so hard to make you feel like you're not being restricted, and while the level design is clever and varied, the interior design definitely is not, and there's also a lot of repetition in the incidental details."
- IGN (90/100): "It's a visionary, considered piece of work, and while my thoughts drift to the things that could have been and the compromises made due to the possibilities of video games in 2011, they're just as quick to consider playing through it again. Human Revolution is a smart, rewarding piece of transhumanist noir that does justice not just to Deus Ex, but to the fiction that inspired it. "
- GameTrailers (87/100): "Deus Ex offers a good deal of mischief to get into, and it's all backed up by a great stealth system and a solid shooting game. With its variable story, as well as how it encourages you to alter your approach to obstacles, it's also a game that rewards multiple playthroughs. The future is bleak and at times ugly, but we wouldn't have it any other way."
- 1UP (A): "I don't normally replay games, but there are exceptions: I've probably played through Metal Gear Solid 3 a dozen times and Deus Ex about four. I have a feeling that DEHR is going to be one of those games. I'm loving the sheer amount of choice I have because it's up to me to discover it. "
Metareview: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
56
Looks like Deus Ex: Human Revolution is setting a high bar for the deluge of mega-titles launching between now and the holidays. Our review called the title "an imperfect, complex and ambitious reminder of what a game can be when it's unafraid." That theme plays out in several other reviews, with the imperfections being far outweighed by the game's considerable execution and ambition.

I'm still not overly convinced about this game - I think a rental is required before a purchase decision is made.

A rental will not do it justice unless you're GameFlying it and will have it for a long, considered playthrough.
Buy it - it is Mass Effect's artsy cousin

Don't get me wrong, I actually liked Alpha Protocol. It had a lot of great ideas, just bad execution. Had it managed to succeed at realizing it's ideas better, the game would have been awesome. But as they used to say in this business, that is what the sequel is for. Unfortunately in the case of Alpha Protocol, there will be no sequel coming (if SEGA has too much of anything to say about it). Obsidian wants to do a sequel. They have even stated they have figured out how to improve the game to better achieve their original vision of what the game should have been. But since SEGA apparently holds the IP rights, it is very unlikely we are ever going to see if Obsidian really can make AP into all that it really could have been. And honestly, I would not mind so much if Obsidian never got another shot at the game, if anyone else more competent (say like BioWare, or Bethesda, or couple of other companies I could name) was attempting to do what Obsidian set out to do - an RPG set in the real world with espionage setting.
The closest we are going to get, is Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Not quite set in the now, but at least that got the international man of mystery part going for it. I can't wait until midnight. This game is going to be legendary.

@slickie Alpha Protocol could have been great, it had all the bones, it just didn't put them together right. for all the illusion of choice, in the end it came down to shooting all the mans with big guns.
judging by the reviews i'v read, DXHR does a decent job (with some few exceptions, apparently, disappointing) giving players actual choice. I can't wait to play it!

And that is the sad commentary. I'm sorry but Obsidian is awful when if comes down to it. Regarding AP you can see all the great ideas they were going for but as stated earlier the execution was a dismal failure. FNV turned out great - months and months later after all the patches.
If someone could execute the core concepts of AP and call it a Bond game my mind would be blown.

And GT continues its terrible choice of scores. I find it hilarious that the only way for any game to score higher than a 9.5 on their site nowadays is to have the words "Call of Duty" in their title.

@PointlessPuppies Why in the world reviewers continue to give CoD a 9+ every year is beyond me.
It's like they go, "Oh, well it's like the one 4 years ago and that one was good. So that means this is still good, even though nothing has been expanded on and we've seen this concept countless times over and over."

May I tell you that Activision gifts a lot of stuff to reviewers.
Like seriously, Activision hosts a huge party for all the reviewers before they write their reviews while Activision is the room.
They get a bunch of gifts, 5 Star Hotel Pass, massages, whatever they want.

I never said anything about the IGN review "sounding about right". I'm pointing out GT's hypocrisy in general.
But keep thinking that I automatically agree with IGN just because they're saying what I want to hear. It couldn't be further from the truth, but hey, why worry yourself with such trifling matters as "truth"?

@INTRO definitely got the impression from the GT review that the review didn't "get it". he's clearly not the intended audience for this kind of game. For one, he reviewed it on the 360. Dues Ex is a PC franchise and putting it on consoles has never done a single favor for it. (Invisible War, anyone?). I got the impression that the reviewer was looking for a cyborg themed COD. oh wells, to each their own.

In all fairness the commentary on the game was quite positive and I was surpised by the score (hate scores).
The game is not perfect, neither is ME2 and that is hands down my fave game this gen. That will not deter me from what looks to be a fantastic experience overall - especially when we're getting shit like DNF and MW3 shoved down our throats

That being said, Deus Ex is a great series, so it's still a pretty good deal.

If you give Deus Ex 3 less than a 9.0-10.0 score, it's a sign that you really don't know anything about videogames.

Don't get me wrong, I have it pre-ordered and I'm stoked to play it; but I've been disappointed once already (by Invisible War). I'm not going to get my hopes too high until I am sitting down playing this game.

If you've been following the dev diaries it gives you a good indication and the reviews have validated that. DE:IW was not up to expectations but was not a bad game - and with DE:HR they clearly care about the integrity and quality of this franchise. That kind of sincerity and quality deserves to be rewarded w/ a purchase imo

Can someone please tell me what this game is about?
All I hear is that it's a good game, that it's almost as good as the original. And theres shooting and hiding.
What is the game about? These days, reviewers tend to forget the content of the GAME, and focus too much on other things.

The game is based on a sci-fi future where humans can improve themselves through "Augmentations", technology that increases or adds ability of human functions, such as improving the how far you jump, or see through walls, etc.
It plays as a First Person Shooter, but it feels more like an action adventure. The best comparison I can give it is: Mass Effect meets Metal Gear Solid.
You play as the head security manager for the "Sarif" corporation, who has recently been the victim of a terrorist attack. Fighting through the truth and through the misguidance of your boss, you must put the pieces together yourself through the use of espionage, hacking, and blunt force. While also getting the opportunity to help others achieve their own goals and desires.

The most annoying thing about Deus Ex is the loading times... 30 seconds average each time. And trust me when I say, you re-load a lot! It is extremely difficult compare to many games even on easy mode. However, it is challenging, and addictive. Just frustrating...

GT reviews the Xbox360 version(buttons visible in review), not surprised by that. Why is the 360 the choice to Demo/Review games on? It's really not that great anymore. Crysis2 was demo on 360 and it hurt them (Crytek). Just seems that all the game conventions, they demo games on a outdated system. PC's are where they should demo new games at a convention, not some 5-6 year old console lol idiots.. I think the BF3 buzz speaks for itself.

@(Unverified) actualy, i believe most reviewers got PC versions unless they asked for a console version. DXHR was a PC game ported to consoles from day one, as I understand it.
Don't know why anyone would review a 360 copy when a fully functional PC version is available, but maybe i'm just one of those elitist PC master race blokes.
