Major Nelson, majordomo of all things Xbox, took to his blog this afternoon and posted a detailed list of all the games and events that will be spread out across Microsoft's five booths at this week's Penny Arcade Expo. It's about what you'd expect; Gears of War 3 Horde mode, Forza 4, Mass Effect 3, etc, until you get to the list of Booth 432's XBLA titles. Right near the end, snuggled squarely between Retro City Rampage and War of the Worlds, is an unannounced XBLA port of Sonic CD.
We've reached out to Major Nelson and Sega for comment, but as of yet no additional confirmation has been provided by either party. We suspect they're too enthralled by Sonic CD's masterful theme song to even move, let alone respond to our e mails.
Update: A communique has hit our inbox from Sega PR: "We don't have any details at this time, but we'll be sharing some more information soon."

The sad thing about Sega is that their music on new games still sounds like the Sonic CD theme song.

@mcnichoj I said as a young'n. I've played them since. I was just saying this is the one that hits the nostalgia button for me.
Also, I thought it was pretty good. Still my favorite.

I beg to differ! The Japanese/European theme song was better in my opinion.

Why is Mass Effect 3 in a Microsoft booth?

@SisypheanLife Probably remnants of their old exclusivity deal, from before Bioware being bought by EA.

Ah yes, I bet that's probably it. I forgot there's supposed to be some kind of Kinect usage. Good call!

Best sonic ever. I'm glad that so many people who may have missed it the first time have a chance to play it now.

I hope two things:
1. This is the Sega CD version, and not the PC version. Given the fact that we've NEVER seen an emulated Sega CD game, and Sega's past XBLA offerings have been pretty lazy, I'm doubting it.
2. We get BOTH soundtracks and can choose between them in a menu.

I missed this as a kid. I had a CDX but never had one Sega CD game. I still have my CDX though and I recently bought Sonic CD and it's ....different. As a huge fan of Sonic games back in the day, this one is kinda off the wall by comparison.

This is incredible. I never managed to play this sonic game. i went from a genesis to a dreamcast.

Same here, I went from Sonic and Knuckles to Sonic Adventure... Probably didn't help that the only time I ever seen, or heard for that matter, of the Sega CD/Saturn, was at a relatives house (and was well after the fact the Dreamcast was released).

Sonic CD is probably the most overrated of the 16-bit Sonics. Slow pacing, awkward and tedious time traveling mechanic, and underwhelming bosses. Maybe if I'd played it at the time of its release on the Sega CD, as opposed to years after the fact on the PC, it would've been a better experience.

I have to agree. Those that are used to older Sonic games on Genesis are going to play this and say WTF!? I know I did.

I always wondered why SEGA was dragging their feet with releasing this game as a download. Hopefully this comes to PSN too (and not a year or two later like Limbo, Castle Crashers, etc)
