Whatever happened to the "less addons, more expansion packs" mantra from a few weeks ago?

Because they can't be THAT expansive if you're already planning on two of them.

@Qehb I like this post because it proves him wrong AND a jerk.

And quick fact for you Klearwater, people are tired of buying products that have more content released later. We would rather have the full game now rather than being bled for 14 bucks a month for extra content. If I wanted to do that, Id be playing WoW.

i totally agree but with so many more people owning xbox 360s and those idiots also are more willing to complain and still pay for why would they put this extra stuff on the disc for us ps3 owners. i mean if almost every game gets made for the 360 and then ported to ps3 doesnt that mean we have a ton of unused space left on our bluray disc? it takes what 3 xbox game disc to fill up one ps3 bluray disc?

While I do hate buying a game and knowing that there will be visible gaps in it that will require more of my money to fill, Oblivion set this particular precedent after stumbling over the horse armor.

However, 90% of the Oblivion DLC was what I'd call "addons," while only the Shiver Isles was what I'd call an "expansion." This stuff isn't sounding like expansions.

That said, I won't be too bothered by it as long as they avoid the BioWare route of having DLC selling NPCs in the game world, offering me quests that I can't accept without shelling out real world money.

Dude, I'm all for extra content. I'd just rather big expansion packs like the ones in Morrowind, or Shivering Isles, than little contents packs like the ones for Fallout 3 or, god forbid, mammoth armor.

I don't mind expansion packs so much, if they genuinely add in content that just couldn't be put in the final game, and if it came out like a year later. But planned content like this should be in the game from the start.

Just one more game that I'm probably not going to pick up until they release a final complete version with everything in it. I don't buy DLC, I never have, and I never will, I'd MUCH rather just buy one complete game.

@Colin If im not mistaken, they had the first 2 DLC's for Fallout new Vegas in the works before it was released too. These days its normal for a company to be working on the first large DLC weeks, if not months before a game is released.

Unfortunately, no. The extremely slow 2x read speed of the ps3 means that you would have to install it on the hard drive, rendering all of your extra disc space useless. This is also why it takes 5 minutes to load GTA4 even after installing 3gb to the hard drive. Faster disc speed is much better than more disc space.

If I ever get a 360 game with a timed exclusive release, I always wait until it's on sale anyway.

We want a full experience, and most PC players really hate the fact you plebians have dragged their passtime down into the gutter with the masses. Now there are almost NO games which take full advantage of our hardware. And I just bought my first video card in four years with the expectation that Skyrim will look that much better with it. "

How can you NOT be judged as a PC gamer douchebag when your community is filled with these types of assholes.

I'll be getting it on PC so I can cheat since the stupid world-leveling system ruins the game for me, I could care less about waiting a wopping 30 days since the content and length of this game will already be staggering. But why are people comparing expansion packs to mods? When was the last time you downloaded a mod that offered a new island filled with new towns and fully voiced characters giving you hours of quests like in Shivering Isles? By and large mods are just tweaks and weapons, they dont add substantial content.

Well well, for Oblivion, you can see the total conversion sections which will change the whole thing that you know about the game. Check out Nehrim and the Middle Earth project.

Mods could also be collection of other smaller mods to tweak the game, weapons, faces, like you said, but this would actually will breathe new life into the game (check the New Vegas ENB and the graphical tweak projects)

All I'm saying is, you couldnt be more wrong in your statement.

i don't hate PC gaming... i dislike PC gamers... Much like everyone where who has been gaming for the past 10-15+ years i started out gaming on a PC. I played everything from Doom to Terminal Velocity to Half-Life to Phantasmagoria . Look at what PC gamers have become, nothing but a bunch of needy self centered crowed that *threatens* any and all developers or publishers to make games based around their needs and their wants. They want this, they want that, and they want it free and they want it now... or else.... right? Thats the kinda of attitude that PC gamers have adopted for some reason. Thats the attitude i hate. elitest PC gamers aren't fighting for a "cause" like they like to believe, they just wan't full entitlement for no reason at all other then having a platform that isn't hardware specific.

Its also pretty pathetic when 360 and PS3 fanboys act more mature then the PC crowd about things that are put in and things that are left out in games.

label me a PC hater all you want, its just 'stiq after all, but if you really knew me and my gaming past you'd know its just me raging at all these new "gamers" who feel more entitled then others for no real reason.

I cant and wont change your mind on whom you hate, that is your business. What I dont like is you bitching on every thread comments about PC gamers or PC gaming in general just because there are some of the fellow gamers (unfortunately pc users) that mention something like a fact or sound condescending enough (even though some of them are, like you said, a fact) and you just cant take it. You can say it in a nice way, but you chose to be rude.

If there is someone new at pc gaming and sounded condescending, wouldnt it be better for you to be the better one and point out why they shouldnt do that instead of raging? I just dont get it. If you said you used to game on PC and now you are ashamed of it, really, its a shame. After all, you already knew the history of pc games and how nowadays pc users dont get that much love.

PC gamers unite for something is not them being 'needy' or self centered, but because there is a real issue to be had. Most of these always-on DRM, copy protection, bad ports, etc are real problems that pc users have. You think we should just stay quiet and suck it up? How would the devs know if nobody gave comments (just like DX:HR long load times, which the dev quickly patched the other day). I mean, coming from pc gaming, I just think that you should know better.

You should already know that it is hard to test all pc environments compared to the closed and static environment of consoles, thus more problems to be had after release. Your attitude definitely is not helping new pc users into gaming (even when they are just learning about the specifications and technicality of a computer). If you are into "I just want to play a game that works", then I wouldnt blame you and console is the way to go.

In the end, I usually am lurking around and overall be friendly, but I just have to say that I think it is you who needs to grow up. Not everyone is a PC elitist dick. Even those who are proud with their pc might sound like it, but they arent, if you understand what I'm saying. If you want me to label you, then yeah, you are an immature hater/troll that can appreciate other people's opinion, and its a shame, considering, again, that we are all fellow gamers here.

Also, look up this thing called "Nehrim". It's a mod for Oblivion that changes....well it's hardly fair to call it just a "mod" since the main quest is around 50 hours in length and the mapsize is larger than Oblivion.

"Its because you PC Players really ARE complete dicks.... the worst kind too (gaming wise)"

Yes, because console fanboys and people such as yourself are a lovely lot of people who are nothing but bundles of sunshine, happiness, and are an overall joy in which to converse with. I don't know how to articulate this, but you're just as much of a pretentious, arrogant dickweed as the absolute worst PC gamer to frequent this website. Here's the summation of almost every single post of yours "PC gamers are pricks" "PC gamers are spoiled" "PC gamers are whiners". Almost EVERY POST OF YOURS is one of the three sentences or a variation of them repeated ad nauseum.

"ts also pretty pathetic when 360 and PS3 fanboys act more mature then the PC crowd about things that are put in and things that are left out in games."

No, no they're not. Perhaps you weren't around to read it, but there was quite an uproar about the PS3 version of Fallout 3 getting absolutely left in the dust when it came to DLC or bug fixes. Almost every single thread regarding a console specific exclusive is filled with console fanboys spewing precisely the same vitriolic comments and pettiness you yourself keep lambasting PC gamers about. Or how much pissing, moaning, and groaning there is whenever a publisher liked Valve releases free content for their PC ports but can't on the console side (specifically, for the XBOX). Better yet, let's go over how many flamewars have been fought over hardware, how many arguments have erupted over something as inane as upscaling, or how many threads are packed full of the "Xbox live is the BOMB!" "No, it's not; PSN's where it's at" tit fo tat.
"Look at what PC gamers have become, nothing but a bunch of needy self centered crowed that *threatens* any and all developers or publishers to make games based around their needs and their wants. They want this, they want that, and they want it free and they want it now... or else.... right?"

Right, because PC games should just blindly blind and be happy with sloppy, bug ridden console ports. People should just be thrilled at having their menu options limited to "Change gamma/brightness", mouse smoothing enabled by default with no real way of turning it off (which then screws up the game's controls), super narrow FOVs, and the inability to change key bindings while simultaneously getting penalized with DRM that can be so atrociously draconian the publisher might as well "send some guys overs" to break your legs if you don't behave the way they want you to. Using your own logic, people who bought From Dust have absolutely no right to complain and should be burned at the cross for expressing even the slightest dissent.

PR0F3TA, you're just as bad as the people you're decrying and, to some extent, even worse because this is ALL YOU EVER DO IN EVERY THREAD YOU POST.

I've been gaming for over 2 decades now, none of which was played on a Personal Computer. I just enjoy loading up a game & getting a great experience that Television/movies/music can't give me.

I don't care how anyone enjoys their Video Games just like everyone else should just mind their own gaming.
