$30 just to get a 33% discount on the DLCs?

You could buy all of the Gears of War 2 DLC for $10 less! How expensive are these DLCs gonna be?!

@Dubiousity My awesome junior high math skills tell me altogether about $45. I kinda like these season passes. 45 bucks is pretty ridiculous for 4 DLC add-ons, but 30 doesn't seem so bad. I hope we see more of these passes in the future.

@Faenix

So let's assume they will be $15 like you say.

33% of 1200 = 400

Since it will cover 4 map packs.

400 x 4 = 1600 Microsoft Points

If they are $15 a map pack then you're spending $30 to save $20, or $10 or a Weapon Skin pack. You'd lose even more if the packs were only $10.

What kind of crap is this?!

If it works the same as the Rockstar pass, then the ambiguous wording actually means that that $30 IS the reduced price. You aren't paying a bunch to pay less later; the season pass will unlock all 4 of the first DLC packs. If it is 33% off, then the 4 packs will cost $45 total, which probably means 3 of them are $10 and one is $15.

Cant really find a normal way to price map packs to reach this "33% off", its closer to $12.50 I think

$10 didnt make sense, cause that would be 25% off, not 33%.

Well two things: First the wording says it guarantees a 33% discount, so It could always wind up being a bigger discount, this gives them some wiggle-room in terms of pricing.

I think more likely is that the packs won't all cost the same. The first one will likely be $15, the rest could get priced at $10 depending on how that sells.

So combining my two theories into one: Microsoft will definately sell the first pack for $15, then see how the game performs. If they think demand warrants another $15, they will set the price there, if not, they may set it at $10. So long as the first one is $15 and the other 3 are all $10, they have me their guarantee. If they feel they can get away with the first two being $15, they may do that and the guaranteed savings of 33% will actually be higher.

@JoeSway Maybe you should repeat junior high. :) 4 x $15 = $60 and 4*$10 = $40, so no matter how much they cost (unless it's $11.25) you're wrong. LOL!

@Dubiousity

To everyone who has horrible math:

Y x 0.66 = 30 (where Y is the price of all four DLC without the discount. It's times .66 because that's 2 thirds of the price, i.e. the equivalent of a 33%, or one third, discount)

Y x 0.66 / 0.66 = 30 / 0.66 (divide both sides by 0.66, thus eliminating 0.66 from the left side of the equation)

Y = 30 / 0.66
Y = 45.454545

Divide that by four and you get 11.363636

Considering that 800 Microsoft Points doesn't equal $10 EXACTLY (taxes and such), I think it's safe to assume each DLC will be 800 points.

@Hyperion45 Alternatively,

2400 / 0.66 = 3636.3636 / 4 =909.0909

So yeah, they COULD be charging 900 points per DLC, but when have we ever seen that for DLC?

How so? 67% of $45 is just over $30. Therefore, 33% off $45 is $30.

100-67=33.

@Prince David That is what they are saying.. this is just worded poorly. By spending $30 you get 4 DLC. Which saves you $10 because each DLC is $10 individually.

not true. you see, you could have 3 DLC packs cost $10 each and one cost $15, which equals $45. or you could have two $15 packs, one $10 pack and on $5 pack of weapons, which still equals $45. based on your math, you are assuming that each DLC is of equal price and value. and in all honesty, the "free" weapons pack that you would be getting may be considered a percentage of the 33%. if that's the case, you will actually be getting a smaller percentage toward actual gameplay DLC than 33%.

@LexStewther I was just assuming that each DLC would be priced the same. OBVIOUSLY if they are at different price points then the math/savings will be different. But when has any previous Gears DLC been over 800 points? I sincerely doubt they will start now (despite the precedent started by Activision), and I HIGHLY doubt that they will have a weapon pack for 400 points. For one that's stupidly expensive for a re-skin dlc, and it won't be new weapons since giving certain players better or different starting weapons condones a "pay to win" scenario. Both of those options are extremely stupid and I doubt Epic would do either of those.

Odds are the DLC will be map packs, and possibly a bonus campaign mission, so an 800 point per DLC price makes the most sense.

As for the bonus skins, that's an added incentive for people to buy the pass. It's available exclusively to those who buy the pass. The savings apply only to the DLC that can be purchased, so it wouldn't be factored into the 33%

@Hyperion45 Just to clarify on my posts, I put 66 on accident (instead of 67). I was thinking in terms of thirds, i.e. 33.3333 or 66.66666, instead of simply 100 - 33 = 67. Still the differences are minimal (a few cents in the first post, about 40-50 points in the second)

This is stupid.

Even if the first four cost 1200 ($15) a piece, which I don't think and of the previous GoW DLC's were that much, you would still be paying $10 MORE to buy the season pass.

Huh? Is your math correct? 4 x 15 = 60. Season pass is $30.

$30 is 66% of $45... so basically, you pay $30 for content that will cost you $45 if you buy it separately.

As far as the first comment.. sure you can get all the Gears 2 DLC NOW for $20, but you couldn't when it was first released.

I thought the wording was you pay $30 to get to buy the DLC at 33%reduced price, or $10 instead of $15. That was the way the article read. But the $30 as the reduced price makes much more sense.

There is no "+ $dlc" since the 30 bucks you're paying gives you access to all of the future DLC. So it will just be the cost of the game and then the option of buying a $30 pass, which gives you ALL of the DLC.

Right. What if 2 of the first "season" of DLC releases are only weapon skins and player skins?
One is a retro map and the other is a new map for multiplayer use?

I'm sure everyone would feel nice and raped. If they are going to plan DLC, they might as well announce what it will entail, because now... players are just taking a shot in the dark and praying that they aren't going to get jerked around.

p.s. - season pass kind of hints towards multiple seasons by my interpretation. It would be effed up (from the fans side) if multiple seasons of DLC weren't planned. Beautiful marketing strategy though. What did they say about a fool and their money?
