Well I can't fault them for not planning out this feature for their store, the whole thing is off the cuff. The compliementary games after the PSN outage was also implemented in a somewhat strange way and threw up errors.

@MEMgrizzlies7 I wish they'd partner with Microsoft and just build some compatibility for Xbox Live, and make a deal with MS whereby they get a cut for each Wii U/3DS gamer :P.

While the PSN Welcome Back games were acquired in an unorthodox way, at least the instructions were right there on the PS Store. With this 3DS setup, why would you even think about looking in the section of games you had already downloaded in order to get games you had never downloaded? Will there be instructions sent to everyone, or will users all have to get curious and look up the process themselves?

Also, part of the reason for the weird PSN Welcome Back process was that participants were picking games out of a selection. Here, everyone's getting the exact same set of games.

@Ballistic H What would be nonsensical about partnering with the industry's best online service, particularly if in doing so they could also offer cross-platform gameplay? :)

NES games aren't that space consuming.

It should be fine, maybe even for the GBA games. The largest NES ROM is 1MB, and the largest GBA ROM is 32MB. Assuming all 20 games were these sizes (which they aren't), that would use up about 330MB...
Now, that's just for the ROMs... you'd also have to factor in how large Nintendo's emulators, which probably are not part of the OS, but built in to each download. Oh, and save files and save states.

Still, larger SD cards are super cheap. You'd do yourself a favor by picking up a good, cheap 8GB card from somewhere like Newegg.

I don't know guys.. it's not the ideal method for downloading these games but I don't think it's the clusterf*ck people are making it out to be. So the games are being added to your account instead of redeeming a code or "buying" it for 0.00. Not a huge deal.

Frankly, the redemption method for the free PS3 games was much more complicated than this.

This was probably Nintendo's master plan.

1) Release 20 free games
2) Make it hard as hell to download
3) ???
4) No one profits!

1) Implement a notifications system.
2) Release 20 free games.
3) Make it so there is no way new users can get the games.
4) Nostalgia!

I can't wait to see Nintendo's eventual online service. I'm sure it will be super easy to use with no complicated back door methods to get at your information/content.

Considering the 3DS might not allow promo codes, and they want to guarantee the ambassador is the one that gets the games and not someone else, this seems like a good way to do this. It's not much work to "redownload" a game, especially since it's completely free.

My point being in my first post is if Nintendo could tell us updates I think I would follow them rater missing on on something important because it was reported later.

Don´t be harsh Joystiq, is more complicated to do an update, you go to more settings than this, and if you are an ambassador, you updated already, so doing this is just an extra clicks...

I don't think this is all that complicated. There's not a whole lot of ways to do it and this offers some control rather than just dumping all the games at once on you once you log in to the eshop.

Given how messed up Nintendo's shops actually are and their online/digital distribution "strategies" (Read: Procrastination Proclamation) This could have been a lot worse.

Sure, it'll be heavy for the simpletons out there but they're coddled enough as it is.

Is this seriously difficult for anyone to figure out? To me it seems like the best way to do it. You have to go like 2 taps deep in to a menu, and this confuses people? How on Earth did you connect to the Internet and get to this website?

Exactly. Getting on a bus is more complicated.
I mean... you have to walk to the bus stop, navigating all the obstacles. Then you have to check the time table, make sure you haven't missed your bus. Then it turns up and you know, you have to find and hand over an equal or greater than amount of money for the ticket but without giving them a £20 note (because they don't take them).

And that's before you've decided which seat to pick...

I think it's more to do with the fact that you have to go to the download history and click "redownload" 20 times. Not exactly complicated, but certainly a bit annoying.
