Tried the demo and it was the first Deathspank game I've ever tried.

Now I'm glad I didn't buy em.

And this is what you get when you make a Ron Gilbertless game of deathspank, pretty much exactly what happened with monkey island after the second one......

@Hunter141072 Except Curse of Monkey Island wasn't bad. Escape From Monkey Island on the other hand...

Oh, and I hear Ron Gilbert had some input into Tales of Monkey Island, which may be why it was pretty good.

Did you read the article at all? The first two games are much better than this installment, and it's demo is not indicative of Deathspank or TOV.

@Link408 If you loved the first two, you'll love this one. It continues the story and is amazingly fun to play.. but they really haven't added much to the gameplay/mechanics.

I agree with most of this review, however, I don't agree with the difficulty spike. I've been able to 1 shot kill enemies by strategically walking them passed barrels that are around the area. You know you're coming to a tough area when there's a lot of these barrels on the floor, so it's best to use them.

I also found I wasn't using the best of my arsenal, sure it's great to walk over and hack and slash everything in your path, but I think that's where the writer keeps dying. It's best to attack with Grenades, and Bolts (often resulting in a 1 shot kill)

Also, some of the puzzles are there. I'm not that far yet but I came across a game of Simon I had to play by moving Deathspank over colored circles, and then getting passed the bridges in that area actually took me some time because I was missing an item

Wow. The first 2 games were solid. This is really surprising. I'll have to give the demo a go and see for myself. Damn.

I actually prefer my bacon overcooked than undercooked. Crispy is much better than soggy. This has nothing to do with video games, but I just thought you should know.

Eww no way. I need my bacon at least a little floppy. So much more flavor. Crispy is overcooked. Overcooked is always bad. Keep the fat in the meat, not in the pan.

I don't know.
On its own, crispy is definitely better, specially when you get pieces with some sacks of tasty fat still on them, crunchy and tasty!

But when putting them with something else? Like a sub? I don't know... crunchy doesn't really do too well for me with those...

I actually really enjoyed the first 2 Deathspank games. I know the combat was never a strong point, but I didn't think it really took away from the game and I didn't think the inventory system was terrible either. I already bought The Baconing, but I haven't played it yet. I'm still looking forward to it even though the writer was frustrated with it.

ummm wow...harsh, much? ive played about 6-7 hours of the game and im absolutely in love with it. i will admit the combat can get a little difficult at times but by no means does it take away from the overall experience. as for the inventory? i honestly dont have an issue with it. not the best but i dont think ive played a game where the inventory system really impressed me. the same hilarious dialogue is definitely still in the game if not more so than the previous two games. my point is that 2/5 stars is quite harsh. maybe thats just me though *shrug*

Actually, no. I've read much harsher reviews of games (this one isn't profanity filled). If there is a paradigm shift how the flow of this series has changed, it needs to be outlined.

And the frustrations should be outlined as they may not justify the purchase for some players. I HATE battles that stay like an invited guest who wants to "keep party'n".

I'm not really understanding the complaint that there are no more "obtuse" quests, and that quests are combat focused. The first two deathspank's quests were uninspired to say the least, and were either fetch quests or attack x and y. It just sounds like the game hasn't changed much, which is fine with me

I'm glad it wasn't just me, then. I started playing the demo this morning, with a smile on my face, and suddenly I was getting killed repeatedly by the 2nd group of bad guys I encountered. I quickly remembered how to deal with health items, and I finally survived, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. No more smile. Punishing hardcore combat in a whimsical game just doesn't seem right. If you can't even find your legs before they're cut out from under you, something is amiss.

So how is the co-op? It seems they have improved this aspect with multiple characters to choose. Is it as gimped as the first one? Seems this review is incomplete leaving out a big feature. Also no mention of the new shield bash feature? weird ommissions reviewer!

Also I have not played through the first 2 so I do not have series fatigue. I just may as well start with this since I prefer the new scifi setting (again no mention) and if co-op is improved. Recoomend the best to get people. thanks in advance.

I'll be doing what i did with the first 2 games, which is wait until its on sale for half off, or even more.

I still have yet to really start playing the 2nd one. Sad to hear about the 3rd one, but again i wont be buying it till its on sale.

Actually most PSN games i buy i wait till they on sale. Some games i have bought right away, and then end up wishing i had waited till they was on sale.

Yeah i may have to wait a year or more till i get to play the game, but hey at least im saving some money. Besides i got way to much stuff to play as it is with regular disc based games coming out, so i dont need to be spending more money right now anyway.

Just saying. I'll be taking the discount and get the PS3 version if I buy this weekend.

Only the reflect ability. It makes the game more doable, difficulty-wise. Shield bash is effective when one-on-one but, as most people can guess, you're almost always fighting a whole group of baddies.

I'll wait for it to go on sale. Not because I'm necessarily swayed by the review, more just because I played the first two games back to back recently and while I genuinely enjoyed them both it was certainly getting repetitive by the end of ToV. By the time this is a weekly deal the deja vu may have subsided a bit.

I actually enjoyed the second one up until the risk of data loss--the fact that I made it past the reindeer glitch unscathed makes the memory of the game a bit sweeter.

I liked the first one, and thought it was pretty funny, and the second was fine, but didn't seem as funny, and it seemed easier. I thought they were supposed to be improving the problems from the first two in this one, so happily preordered, but this doesn't make me so anxious to play it now. Bummer.

I played the first two and loved them--that said, not entirely sure why the reviewer thinks the first two had an amazing amount of puzzles--I mean, they were THERE, but I found the hack n slash to be more memorable. Not sure I'd count "lack of puzzles" as a negative for this game. This isn't exactly Secret of Mana or Tomb Raider.

I have the three and can say the same thing, the baconing is good, but too linear.

The difficulty is average almost the same level of the other two.

It is a fun game, however there were some problems with the gameplay like targeting and some minor graphical glitches that were not expected as both last games didn't had them... I dont know that is because I've bought the baconing for steam, and not for xbox like the two before... but I found the game lacking substance in gameplay and of course the fun quests and puzzles.

Buy if you are fan of the series or if you dont mind the minor problems and linear questline, if not, buy the first one, Deathspank1 is GREAT!
