A game for the Wii...? You crazy Joystiq, you so crazy! Everyone knows the Wii isn't getting anything new, it's all U now!

@DevilSei

Square Enix is pretty smart about the Dragon Quest series. They usually wait until a system has a HUGE install base before releasing the game.

There are 80 million Wii owners out there dying for something to play. I know I'll be first in line for DQX!

It's no secret the system is lacking in the game department right now. But a lot of us still have our Wii's and will buy Dragon Quest if it's awesome.

At least I hope so.

Well, if you release a new game that they want, wouldn't they play it?

@NaeemTHM The whole reason they put IX on the Nintendo DS was because of its major install base. Wii U won't have one.

So I'd be surprised if that's it. Existing systems seem far more likely... but who knows, this could be another remake or side-game too.

For Dragon Quest? In japan at least, pretty much all of them. They'll dust off their consoles for new DQ.

"""hardcore""" gamers stopped playing/sold their Wii back in 2008.

everyone else never stopped.

Funny thing is, my dad and my sisters are far from "hardcore" gamers, and they don't even bother playing the Wii anymore. The last time my dad has played Wii Bowling was more than a year ago, and only because on of his friends pretty much twisted his arm to do it.

So no, not just the "hardcore" gamers, also the casual gamers who have gotten tired of the Wii's boring little gimmick. There's a reason I almost exclusively use the gamecube or Wii Classic/Classic Pro controller for my games on there.

Well I guess it's a good thing your dad and sisters aren't responsible for the boatloads of hardware/software sales the Wii keeps getting =P

Yes! I'm pretty much more excited for this game than anything. I would bet apples to fruitbats (that's the expression, right?) that this is going to be making the Wii U jump, maybe even as a launch title. If that were to happen, there would be a Wii U in every Japanese household, something that the 3DS really wasn't able to do (unless the rumored Monster Hunter 3D is the other big TGS reveal)

I really hope that the next Dragon Quest isn't shoehorned to just the Wii. As it is my favorite RPG series probably ever, I just want it in full HD with no waggle controls. I don't think that's too much to ask. I personally don't think square can afford to make this console exclusive, as they've kinda been in the shitter lately.

Dragon Quest sells like hotcakes in Japan regardless of console. I don't think they need to worry money when it comes to this series.

I'd like it in full HD also, but as long as they make it Classic Controller compatible I'll be a happy camper. :)

I think it's more likely to be another DS one, seems like all they care about anymore.

I wish they'd just put it on the PS3, but what can you do.

What do you mean "another DS one"? You mean like how DQ9 was freeform and considered to be the black sheep of the series?

I did not mind DQ9's freeformness to be honest, and I still treat it as a real game. The customization was nice, but the lack of party development was a downer. Hell, the party didn't even show up in cutscenes. If there was just one customizable character that would be fine. I think ever since 4 the main hero never had to be in the main party anyway.

I'm not sure what i hope happens here. Even if DQX is released on the Wii in Japan, it would be a year before we would get it here. I don't see a high profile Wii game coming out in 2 years. We might have to hope Square 'upgrades' it to the Wii U and releases it here, and then turns around and re-releases it in Japan.

There's also always the possibility it will just get ported over to the PS3. Don't expect any real graphical improvement, it would still look a lot liked a Wii game, just in HD, not unlike God of War 2 in the GoW collection.

Well, look at Japanese mythology. After the events of Izanagi and Izanami, Parry and Madchen went to slay the wicked demon Ladja with the Zenethian Blade.

Make it a 3DS exclusive.

JRPGS NEED to be on handheld systems.

Preferably on the Vita too. When I played JRPGs on my DSLite two years ago, I thought it was ok. Playing it on a nice, wide screen on the psp it felt...magical. Personal. More for me. Bring on the JRPG!

I wish they would release a Dragon Quest for PS3.. I miss playing DQ7 on PS1 .. I own DQ: Realms Of Revelations for NDS but honestly playing on a handheld or a nintendo console doesn`t phase me much.. I know I know..DQ was first released on a nes console but it felt right at home on the PS1 there

@ChainSmoker The PS1 was saturated with RPGs. They release DQ on consoles that a lot of people have. It shouldn't matter what console it's on.

i don't understand why SE didn't make DQ10 multi-platform game
its not like most fans like it for the graphics, just make direct ports to ps3/360 for easy money

Companies get breaks for making games console-exclusives. I figured they realized the time, money and effort to make it multi-plat on the ps3 wouldn't give them a profit.

There's other things too, like now Nintendo will focus a ton of their effort on marketting DQ9. If it was multiplat they wouldn't bother as much.

And besides, people with ps3s and xboxes make too much of a stink about the poor wii graphics.

Square Enix being who they are probably would do that

But the fun part is that Square Enix has no say in where Dragon Quest goes. They just publish it where Yuji Horii tells them to publish it

Why don't they release a dragon quest game on playstation? They did for the ps2 and I loved that game. Used to own a wii for the wife, but we never played it. Once you play all the Nintendo exclusives the system gets pretty boring.

The answer is this: Get that console. You're missing out on other kickass exclusives too.

The only issue is that de-fangs the possibility that Nintendo's big announcement on the 13th is DQ related

raising the possibility of Pokemon or Monster Hunter

Wait, you mean I might have to stop playing Xenoblade Chronicles at some point? This game would have to be AMAZING for that to happen. Xenoblade has single-handedly turned my PS3 into nothing more than a regular old blu-ray player as of late.
