@Kibbles XIII

Yes, Steam works via mounting a virtual drive across the internet to your PC in order for you to run your games. As it turns out, this drive is also only a DVD drive, not a Bluray, sorry.

I got the steam version and downloaded the augmentation bonus. The soundtrack was in a compressed file in .WAV format. I ended up converting them to .aac files.

The soundtrack is amazing btw. It was worth the price difference alone for the augmentated edition.

The game's constant camera shaking gives me simulation sickness. I hope they fix that someday too.

Look at the bright side of things... That will be the best sounding CD you ever heard up until this point. Unless they used a shitty bit rate that is.

I figured you'd be able to rip the BD-audio to the PS3, then copy it from there to a USB drive to use with the computer

The soundtrack was the only part of the Augmented edition that I wanted - so I didn't get it.

I've been playing the game too much to even bother with the soundtrack. Granted, the soundtrack is freaking stellar, but the game is just wow, wow, wow!

This same thing happened with the Dragon Age: Origins CE. You'd think they would think these things through by now before releasing it to the public.

@JoRo1986

They probably just send an order to the factory saying "We want these audio tracks pressed to disc, it's for the PS3 version of a game." They assume PS3=Bluray, and that's how it happens.

Besides, why even load them to a DVD, what's wrong with CDs for audio? Unless you're listening to them on a theater system.

@beano311

The DVD/Blu-Ray in question generally contains the 'making of' video and so forth. It's a video DVD, not DVD Audio, which nobody uses anymore anyway.

They don't put the soundtrack on a CD because they don't want to pay for an extra disc and the extra packaging that would come with it.

@beano311 or what they should of done is arrange for a program that you can download to the ps3 much simular to the soundtracks that ws offered with infamous 2 hero edition, killzone 3 hellgast edition etc...
which when run it installs the mp3 files to the music folder

@beano311 Who's theater system isn't connected to a PC or media server nowadays anyhow.. Heck, I don't want ANY physical media, Especially since if you have the PC version media, all it does is connect to Steam to download the files anyhow. (Wut? Yes....!)

Square emailed me saying all ps3 discs must be bluray discs. Still.. the soundtrack should not have been distributed this way.

SOLUTION!

Print out the binary interpretations of the audio files and mail them to customers whom send SE a copy of the receipt, the Blu-Ray Disc, and the box UPC.

See....simple.

So... they didn't learn from BioWare's same mistake with the soundtrack for the Limited Edition of Dragon Age: Origins on PS3, I see.

Geez, just d/l the torrent. I had the soundtrack before the game was out.
Technically it's perfectly legal since you OWN the soundtrack anyway (as long as you don't redistribute).

@GErvy

1) while i don't have a personal moral qualms about that, i think it's still technically illegal.

2) with torrenting, you're downloading and uploading at the same time, so that counts as redistributing.

@maveric101

Actually, according to law, if you purchase the soundtrack in any format, you're legally allowed copy the media file as many times as you want for archiving, as long as of all your copies (digital or physical) only 1 copy is utilized at any given time and not distributed or shared.

So, if you purchased the soundtrack, it arrived in an unusable format, so you decided to download it, as long as you're not giving that disc to someone else, or playing the disc while playing the digital format elsewhere, you're completely in your rights, no matter what the publisher decided to print on their jewel-case of liner notes (what they write is not law).

As for torrents, you can stop uploading while you're downloading. It's just options within the client's settings. Not that anyone worries about such things.

As to other comments.... the full soundtrack that I have is 12 songs deep. So I'd consider it a full soundtrack album. (and quite good as far as moody game music goes).

@GErvy Where do you live? In Canada, what you're saying about archiving for personal use is true, but only because of the levy imposed on CD-Rs, MP3 players, etc. is, in theory, supposed to go to music companies. IIRC, the US doesn't have such a levy, so music companies there get a bit more antsy about it.

Yea I thought of that too. Got to try it. Would be great if I could transfer the tunes to my computer over my own wireless but I guess thats not posible...worth a try though

Nope, doesnt seem posible but its really strange in so many ways.

When I put my disc into the PS3 the unit identifies it as a DVD not as a Blu-Ray but the menu clearly states that I have to put it into the computer to transfer the tunes
