I've heard this update is poorly optimized and runs like molasses.

Yeah, what the hell? This isn't a leak, this is just some weird form of release. I'm not even sure why they're doing that in the first place.

The cynic in me wants to say that they're tired of working on the update and just want to release the half-assed version, so they upload this and call it a "leak" so no one gets on their case that it's not finished.

Uh...yeah, of course it's "some weird form of release". Not many developers readily admit to leaking code to their own games.

@PointlessPuppies Simmer down there, champ... If you try reading, Jeb already said that it looks like a Monday release because they're ironing out bugs. This could get pushed back but I wouldn't lose my pants over it...

I hope so. The game crashes in SSP if you use a furnace and the 3 player server my friend was running can't seem to stay going for more than an hour before it hard crashes.

I downloaded it, I haven't run into a village or and endermen yet but I've got to say, the terrain generation feels a bit more natural. The swamp biomes are pretty great for gathering mushrooms and sprinting IS AWESOME.

This is being released to give us something to hold us over for the weekend. For a while the suspected release date was going to be the 8th but since bugs arose they decided to delay the update until (their new best guess) of Monday. Luckily they're being super cool and letting us check it out.

As said above, the new terrain generation feels much more natural as well as the lighting. I managed to run in to one NPC village (-NPC's) and it was neat. I already see myself making a giant warmongering country that will seek to conquer NPC villages.

Long live Minecraft!

"Use the patcher noob" is what it displays when you are using a high rez texture pack without the game client being patched to use high rez textures.

Sooo...download a fresh jar-file from the update function. Where is the problem? You have to wait till it officially comes out, I guess.

I just hope that Villages are more dynamic than it looks like they are going to be. I really want to see NPCs that can build and interact with structures in the world. Suppose we won't know how interactive they will be until the actual NPCs are released tho ^^

I have to say the villagers would definitely get me into Minecraft more. I do wish the crafting system was a bit more like Terraria's (not needing precision placement of mats and having to have a wiki up all the time) but that's my only complaint.

Uh, crafting doesn't require precision placement. It just needs to fit with other pieces. Making a door can be done with

The new swamp biome looks cool, though forces you to use default skin of course. Some of the other tweaks are nice, but the game still runs like a tub of wet ass, and the memory leak is still rearing it's fat ugly head.

Downloaded. Just replaced minecraft_server.jar with minecraft.jar for the local version. Not sure if there is even a difference.

Either way, yeah you have to go to default texture pack.

Seemed REALLY laggy. about every 2 seconds. Also, some of the trees in the swamp biome don't touch the ground.

The few squid I saw didn't seem glitchy though.

TBH, if this is what we are expecting Monday, I may be a lil bit of a sad panda...

@quikchaos Ok, so I was maybe a bit quick to judge. After a few hours, I am finding some AWESOME things. My graphics issue was unrelated (soz Notch). The lighting underground is excellent! And this abandoned mineshaft I just found? Ace! Abandoned chests filled fill coal diamonds, bread. And the mineshaft tunnels made of WOOD. And I haven't even found an NPC village yet!

The world generation is much more pleasing so far. Looks much more natural.

It's a pointless marketing gimmick. They're advertising the release as a "leak" when it clearly isn't.

A "leak" is when somebody within an organisation or group releases confidential information to the public with the knowledge or consent of the information's creator(s) and owner(s).

A "release" is when a group gives public access to information with the knowledge and consent of the information's creator(s) and owner(s), which is exactly what happened in this case.

Hmm still not sure I'm super keen on villages that are created during world generation. I like the idea of the villages being more dynamic.

Messed around in creative just to check things out and I was not disappointed in the two things that I was really looking forward to in this patch. Those being the new world generator, biomes etc and the new lighting engine seems really nice.

Was a bit slow and it does seem to have some crashing issues related to the furnace. Liking what I'm seeing and glad I didn't jump into my friends SMP because once 1.8 is stable they are probably going to re-roll the world :P
