Fantastic Arcade to keep Austin weird on September 22
16
If you're fortunate enough to live within (or near!) the borders of Austin, Texas, you should clear your schedule for next weekend. Fantastic Arcade will take over The Highball from Thursday, September 22 to Sunday, September 25. The event will play host to 21 indie games, such as the psychedelic Dyad, the audio-only panic game, Deep Sea, the heartwarmingly bizarre Octodad, the perspective-shifting Fez, and the utterly magical Owlboy.
There's also a Starhawk gameplay demonstration from fellow Austin-based studio Lightbox Interactive, and a panel hosted by a whole bevy of PSN developers. Check out Juegos Rancheros for the full lineup, trailers and a schedule of events for the weekend.

Nice! I'm not much of a dancer but after a few drinks I was "walkin' like an Egyptian". :D

@LexStewther I live in Austin, too. Have you heard anything about ticket info or cost? I can't seem to find anything about it on the websites.

@CheesecakeJones For the most part it is free but there might be somethings you have to pay to get into. But last year that was conferences and such. Here is a link to the actually post on Fantastic Fest's (creator of Fantastic Arcade) blog.

It'd be nice to finally be able to play Fez. The graphics and music in the trailers have been pushing my retro buttons since 2008.

If you have extra time and want to visit a great arcade, check out Arcade UFO. I still haven't had the chance to go (east coast here) but they are one of the few around the US who are doing it right, getting the games people want, and staying open. Notable new games there: DJ Max Technika 2, Pac-Man Battle Royale, Marvel vs Capcom 3, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, Mortal Kombat (2011), BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 2.

I've been there and it's not my style of arcade. Nice though. I'm more of a fan of Pinballz in North Austin. Two stories of retro and new pinballs and arcades.
