The Persona fighting game caught on video, straight from TGS 2011

When we first heard about a rumored Persona-based fighting game from BlazBlue dev Arc System Works, we couldn't believe our eyes. And then Famitsu's full report on Persona: The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena went live, officially detailing the bizarre mashup of Persona and the fighting game genre.

Now, just a few short weeks later, we've got a full 10 minutes of the game being played on video, courtesy of Japanese video sharing site Niconico. If you woke up this morning hoping to see a virtual female viciously beaten with a chair, look no further -- this video's just for you.

Im starting to think even my UNDYING ABSOLUTE LOVE of Persona 4 won't be enough to drive me to buy this.

It looks slow. It looks like it's just a simple fighting game. The scenery, themes, and fact that it'll have an actual, canon (?) story are great. But it just...I don't like fighting games. ._.

I also cannot stand that they changed Souji's name to Yu.

If you were a true Persona 4 purist and fanboy, you'd buy this game purely so you could beat the crap out of Yukiko for that horrible English voice-acting.

It's better than 90% of English dubs, but I'll be damned if I don't want to knock the b!tch out anyway.

I found Yukiko to be tolerable, but only because I could always say "Well, at least it's better than Fukka".

Whoa, whoa, whoa! You leave Yukiko alone! You did enough to her in that video already!

Plus, I kind of liked Yukiko's English dub. It just sort of grew on me.

I don't like BlazBlue, because I suck at it. Suck is the biggest under-statement of all time. I am Noobosaurus and can be beaten by an armless monkey.

But I would go gay for this game... Wait... Pro. I mean pro.

The game looks pretty damn smooth. I'm not exactly any good at fighting games, but for Persona, I'd be willing to put aside my suckishness. What has me really interested though is the fact that this might be the first fighter ever with a coherent and compelling story. I'm really interested in what it will be about and how it will be told. Bring it on, man!

I can totally see this game at Evo 2012. Never thought I would say that about an RPG series.

Next, i'd love to see an Atlus vs Aksys series. The possiblities...

Need more P3 characters. I realize this is P4 based but it could use a bigger cast. And it has Aegis.

This game looks good.

I liked Blazblue and I am one of those persons who will not die until a new true improved sequel of Guilty Gear is released.

The character choice seems pretty heavy on the Persona 4 side... I thought this was supposed to represent characters from various Persona titles? Anyway it reminds me a lot of Capcom's Jojo fighting game from the 90's... which isn't a bad thing.

When the game was originally announced it was said to be a crossover between different Persona games... but so far it only has Aegis from Persona 3. Anyway there's an official trailer with the cast- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlEmFBuzK-g

The 7 playable Persona 4 characters, Rise, and Aegis... so probably 9 characters, a mid boss, and a final boss... probably Ameno-sagiri

Oh wait... this is Arc we're talking about here... they'll release the game with the Persona 4 cast and Aegis... then offer Persona 3 characters as DLC even though they're on the game disc.

Except none of BlazBlue's characters were on disc.
It's simple to prove that. Hacking community tried to unlock them, turns out they're not on disc. Hacker community unlocks Jill and Shuma because they were on disc.

Ah my bad... we'll just get dlc characters with half finished animation like Makoto then

Do explain that? Because they didn't start work on Makoto untill after the game went gold.

Have you seen Makoto's standing animation? If they're going to charge you extra for a DLC character... at least finish the character before releasing it.

Her standing animation seems fine to me, though I don't really see Makoto standing still too often.

I will import this if it doesn't come to the states, if only to play as Chie and ruthlessly pummel Risa every chance I get. She was the worst character in 4, and so goddam irritating.

I was kinda hoping for an expanded version of Persona 4 like they did with Persona 3: FES, but I guess this could be cool too!
