Call of Duty Elite beta finally available on PlayStation 3

The Xbox 360 Call of Duty head start doesn't just apply to DLC, where the platform enjoys a limited period of exclusivity; it also applies to the forthcoming suite of services known as Call of Duty Elite. Or, rather, applied. The Xbox 360 beta program kicked off over two months ago but today, Activision has announced that the beta is also available for PlayStation 3.

"Beta testers can take their current Call of Duty multiplayer experience to the next level by jumping into the Beta version of the Call of Duty Elite service, as beta access will start to be activated in stages, with limited invitations rolling out effective today," the press release reads. The beta is of course limited to Call of Duty: Black Ops, with the full feature set locked until Modern Warfare 3 hits retail on November 8.

While many of Elite's most popular services will be free, a $50/year premium subscription will also be available, which notably includes a year's worth of DLC for the game. Whether premium -paying PS3 players will still have to suffer through Xbox exclusivity is unclear; we've asked Activision to clarify. Call of Duty Elite Beta Now Available on PlayStation 3

We are thrilled to announce that the Call of Duty® Elite Beta, utilizing Call of Duty®: Black Ops, is now available on PlayStation® 3. Beta testers can take their current Call of Duty® multi-player experience to the next level by jumping into the Beta version of the Call of Duty Elite service, as beta access will start to be activated in stages, with limited invitations rolling out effective today. The PlayStation community will have the opportunity to connect, compete, and improve through Call of Duty Elite and Play Together Better.

The Call of Duty Elite Beta, utilizing Call of Duty: Black Ops, will test select features and functionality, including stat tracking, the use of custom player groups, competitive events and video sharing. A major upgrade of additional features will come to Call of Duty Elite at its official launch on November 8th with Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare 3.

Premium members of Call of Duty Elite will also receive all downloadable content for the new blockbuster title Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. All of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 DLC, 20 pieces of new in-game content, will be available monthly during the 9-month DLC season. But for those still waiting to sign-up, DLC will still be available a la carte too.

I'm a huge CoD fanboy (but I have nothing against BF) and this comment makes 100x more sense than 99% of the comments on these CoD and BF articles.

BF3 and Superior

Even if MW3 wasn't a MW2 expansion, which is exactly what it is at the cost of a full game, but this elite crap and Xbox exclusivity just makes BF3 that much more appealing to PS3 and PC users.

Thankfully I never intended on buying MW3 once I heard they did absolutely nothing to the engine or the mechanics of the game so my decision was already made.

BF3 vs BC2 and MW2/COD:BO vs MW3...yea which one changed the most, which one deserves my money...not hard to figure out.

It's funny that Microsoft still pays for this. Why don't they do that for a pokemon game in Japan so the PS2 stops outselling it for the third week in a row.

I don't really see anything "Special" About this other than "Pay $50 a year for DLC for a year" but unless they make the DLC Really worth it (Which they haven't) I don't see a point in this besides getting a subscript base for crappy maps.

Yeah I don't see why it would even be questioned. Activision has always been happy to take the same amount of money from PS3 owners and give less in return than 360 owners.

Anyone who signs up for this service on Playstation is fool who deserves to be taken advantage of.

@koehler83 I'd be willing to bet that COD is most played over XBL anyway, in return Xbox owners give Activision more money. Its no surprise they took a deal with MS to focus heavier on their target audience. Most games with a big online mutliplater or co op gaming experience on consoles sell better on 360 because of the audience and XBL.

Then it should be 360 exclusive. $60 is $60 whether it's on 360 or PS3. If anyone is willing to give Activision $60 of their money, they should be treated with the same courtesies as anyone else doing the same.

They're willing to take the same money from both groups but not willing to give the same treatment to both groups. That's a double standard and it's unacceptable.

Of course PS3 players can do what they wish with their money. If they want to pay more for less, that's their prerogative. I maintain that they are fools.

I received my invite to the beta last Friday. It's great if you like stats, otherwise not much else to do in elite.

if the make PS3 owners wait for the exclusivity then its dumb, if not then i may just purchase the hardened edition. I don't see why there is so much CoD hate.

I've been in the Beta for a while. It's not much to do if you haven't played Black Ops since 2010. I though there would be support for some older games (Cod4!), but it's only Black Ops and MW3 :(

Its reasons like this and all these CoD expenses that I'm going BF3 this time around, sorry CoD train, but this is my stop, its sure been a blast :(

I've been in the Beta since the beginning of August and I'm actually enjoying it. Although I hate the price tag for a year of it, I'm loving the free beta of it now haha. I don't do clan stuff, so the whole Connect aspect/section is useless to me. I mostly roll solo. However, I'm loving the contests in the Compete section. I'm pretty competitive at heart and it's great to be able to see myself ranked amongst others, whether it be for a virtual medal or physical prizes. I also really like all the stats for it. The Improve section of the site is pretty cool. There's breakdowns of every weapon to see, tips for them, videos (from xboxahoy! eee!) Giving details about the weapons, their attachments, different perks, etc. It's a nice amount of detail for maps/weapons/perks/killstreaks/everything all in one place. I'm hoping the DLC they do release in the coming months is worth it. We'll see.

I "accidentally" deleted an invitation I got to this in my inbox. Oops.

I will have to suffer through the rest of the year (of online play) with only Gears 3... I am a supporter of the PS3, and I enjoy the 360, and occasional PC game (OMG), but its ridiculous that PS3 owners get the shaft when paying the same amount for the game.
I think that ANY GAMER, regardless of platform or preference should show that this is not going to work... wit your $$.

I just hate seeing this video gaming industry go the way its going... because when video games are dead, I will have to pick back up my old hobbies like going outside. EWW!
If anyone wants to reach me on my next FPS, it will be CS:GO.
It may not be drastically improved, but at least its not rehashed every year.

It started over 2 months ago on the Xbox 360? ? ? F**K Activision. I don't buy things if it comes out on the Xbox 360 first(i mean i won't buy the DLC, not the beta LoL)

I don't hate this game but I have a hard time figuring out why anyone would want a PS3 to play it on. You're obviously second-class customers to Activision, eating the scraps falling off Microsofts table.

But still I see lost of players, even on my friends list who play nothing but Black Ops. Why not just get a 360 instead?
