Battlefield 3 open beta begins September 29

The Battlefield 3 multiplayer open beta will deploy on September 29 for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. The beta map to be played ad nauseam is "Operation Metro." It pits two sides against each other in Rush Mode, where one team is tasked with destroying several sets of objectives, while the other defends.

Access to the beta will be available on September 27 to PC players who pre-order the game through EA's Origin service and to console players who pre-ordered Medal of Honor Limited Edition last year (remember that game?) Those uninterested in playing tester for EA can grab the full game on October 25.

Aww its just Operation Metro, I was hoping for some epic battles on the Caspian Border Map :(

This beta is somewhat disappointing. A very late beta, a map we've seen a hundred times, and a game mode we've played a million times.

@K1LLZONE13 - As someone that played the alpha, I'm also kind of disappointed in the beta being the same map and mode.

I'll still play the hell out of it though.

I guess I'll wait till it comes out. I'm surely not buying Medal of Honor and I'm not playing on PC because of all the rampant cheating. if you pre order the game you should be able to sign up for the Beta. I pre ordered my copy months ago. Can't wait till this comes out : )

It's way too late for the MoH promo. There's not rampant cheating on the PC. If someone is suspected of cheating they get kicked and banned, it's quite simple!

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I havent experienced much cheating in PC Battlefield games over the years. I guess there are those that find exploits, but DICE is usually pretty good about patching them.

First of all, Noones gonna have worked out how to cheat in BF3 yet, And second, It dosent happen, Unless you enter servers without Anti Cheat systems. This is always shows as an icon and you can choose for the server lists not to display servers unless they have PB or whatever else.

I think you do get a beta key if you preordered. Ask the origin support, they'll be able to let you know for sure.

Lol. I've played leagues for years and if you think their isn't out of control cheating on the PC lol, more power to you. As soon as the Beta is released their will be wall hack and Aim bots made that hour. If you think different then you have no clue. On the console all you have to worry about is someone using a lag switch and that's pretty easy to handle. I love it when people who don't know what they are talking about try to chime in. Stay on the porch where you belong. Just an FYI the only people who get caught cheating on the PC are the ones who use programs that are released to the public for wall hack and Aim assist. If you know how to make your own private version it never gets caught. I know people who have cheated punkbuster and Steams VAC and have never been caught, so don't tell me about cheating on the PC. Cheating has ruined the PC for shooters.

Yeah, you have no idea what you're talking about. There are cheats for console, it's just much harder.

And so what if I don't have your source code? that just means you won't be auto-banned. I can still tell if you're cheating if you spin all over the place and only pull off headshots or something like that.

Stop being an ass and stop saying that cheaters are rampant in PC gaming. There's cheaters on all platforms, but no one platform is being ruined by them.

I've never in my life seen a hacker in a battlefield game to date. I've played BFBC2 on PC for 104 hours cumulative, and have never encountered a hacker. I have no idea what your talking about, the last time I saw a hacker on the PC was on MW2, but since there's no dedicated servers AND no votekick system, it was basically allowed to happen.

And btw, there are aimbots, wallhacks, etc. on consoles as well, it's as simple as modding your system, having it on the same network as your PC, and installing code to your console over the network or via USB.

I think your problem may just be that people are so much quicker than you that you believe they're hacking. Because how else would they be able to kill YOU right?

Ahh I have been playing Battlefield since 1942, and I don't think I have ever come across any hackers.
DICE is good a stopping them, I think you are coming from a COD perspective...

I don't think you needed to preorder, just have the limited edition. I bought it new a month ago and it says on the box access to the bf3 beta early.

I may be missing something but how do I get into the beta on the xbox360?

That is nearly a month before it is released. Pretty awesome I think, even though I can't get into it.

@Xenitas - Because they advertised it as a reason to get the limited edition of MOH so they have to do something.

The newcomers, ex CoD fanbois, got a feeling it's not gonna end well.

My hopes are on the fact that they'll be dissapointed when they will found out this game needs skill and they can't kill the entire opponent team with just a Tube. Thankfully, MW3 comes out quickly to milk 'em once more and pull 'em out of BF 3.

@PCEliTiST You know, it is possible for people to, you know, play both.

I have a long history with both series (suffice it to say, that I have play every Battlefield besides Vietnam, and every CoD except 3). I will probably enjoy both games for different reasons. When I just want to blow off steam and waste some time, MW3 is the choice. Quick and easy fun, especially if you've got 10 min. But when I more in the mood for a serious and team oriented game, BF3 all the way. I look forward to destroying lone wolfs with teamwork.

I don't think either game will be necessarily better, just different. Se ya in the beta!

if the ps3 beta wont disappoint, then i might just have to cancel my plans for a new rig...

@badaboompowman I'm pretty sure it won't disappoint, X360 graphs are good enough (there a video out there with X360 graphs). So it comes down to: is this new rig powerful enough to run better graphics than the ones on the consoles??? about controls, IIRC you can also use mouse and keyboard on the PS3 version

How is it an open beta if you have to have pre-ordered or purchased other games..

@Evin it's open to everyone on the 29th, but if you pre-ordered via Origin or got MoH Limited you get to play the beta two days earlier. The article is pretty clear about that.

I never got the code in my MOH, its the limited edition and I got it new but it was recent, did they stop betas after a while? Also, what email do they send the code to?

The email linked to your EA Account, which should be the same used for your PSN ID/XBL gamertag.

My account on XBL was hacked and the person changed the email, I couldn't change it back because they set up a case with my account. However my EA account is set up with my normal email, so i'm not sure if the email was sent to the hacker, or sent at all.

This is a beta build, perhaps not for testing as much as showing off their game, but it's still a beta.

@Crimsic Has it occurred to you that this is a beta to test MULTIPLAYER? It doesn't matter if the game is in final build and already in production/shipping, they can still patch after the game launches.

@Crimsic well, pre-release beta can be used to test server load and stability, check balance and try to find last minute bugs; testers can't find 100% of the bugs and can't emulate a release environment with 100% fidelity, so this beta's are very helpful with gathering that last minute info to maybe apply a hotfix or even delay the release date because they found a major bug, possibilities are greater than you might imagine
