I'd definitely bite at that price, but does anyone know if they still have that weird issue where you can't run it off of FAT formatted external drives? Because I am not reformatting my hard drive for any game.

Don't cry, Geralt. It's not you, it's me.

I don't believe it was really possible for them to fix it. The issue arose from FAT file size limitations.

Plus, why do you want to run it off an external drive? Unless it's an external SATA I wouldn't want to add that bottleneck to my games.

@MasterYogurt

I have an internal sized memory of, oh, 30 gigs or so on my Windows partiton. 20 of which is Windows, and 5 of which is documents.

Considering I have hundreds of gigs on games on Steam, that external drive comes in handy, and my computer is fast enough to make up for any bottlenecks.

@Colin Do you... do you know how bottlenecks work? You basically just said, "This bottle is big enough that it makes up for the tiny bottleneck." You can't ever MAKE UP FOR a bottleneck.

@Babelfish

I know how bottlenecks work. I also know that my computer is not a bottle. Metaphors only go so far.

I just mean that, besides some minor increased loading times, I don't notice an impact on gameplay in 99% of games, despite everyone telling me it shouldn't work.

@Colin

That is not a 'weird' bug.That is a FAT limitation. FAT drives can't read files larger than 9GB. There is a 10GB file in the Witcher 2 installation.

Hmmm should I get it on amazon now or from gog on the 29th... Amazon has it cheaper but I don't have any other games in my amazon library... gog's is gonna be 29.99 but looks like it includes a bit more digital stuff and I have a couple things in my gog library already... =/ does amazon's have drm?

@Accessgranted

I think there was a patch, just 2 days after launch, that completely removed all the DRM. Of course, the GOG version is DRM free by default, so is all the bonus material that comes with it there worth the extra 6 bucks?

If you haven't played this yet, don't pass up this game. Especially if you have a 3D system.

Babelfish is right, the point of calling it a bottleneck is that no matter how good your pc is a bottleneck is preventing you from getting the most out of it

Does anybody know if I can buy this through Amazon and download through Steam?

I just did that with Deus Ex: Human Revolution and it worked great.

I also want to know this, because I'll buy it if I can redeem it on Steam.

Alright, no, it can't be redeemed on Steam. It is not a Steamworks game.

@HollowYoshi

Thanks for finding out.

That's lame, but it is on sale on Steam right now for just a little more.

If you don't mind waiting a bit, GoG is going to drop the price on the 29th (when version 2 comes out) to match Steam, and their version is a) DRM free and b) packaged with a ton of downloadable extras. Probably the best place to download it in my opinion.

Curses! This is what I get for jumping on the Steam sale. It is extra painful since I have gift card money in my Amazon account right now, too. Ah well, it'll even out in the end. At least I get to finally play the game.
