Ehhhh, how about you take a nice warm sit of STFU

I assume you, the person posting at 1:14AM Saturday morning knows way more than what Joystiq or Jessica Conditt is talking about.

Haha, keep the genius comments coming. I don't care about Zynga but I guess you all missed the part where revenues increased. The reason profits are down is because they have been re-investing them into the company, hence why the valuation of the company increased. Like I said, leave the financial statement analysis to people who know what they're talking about.

I'd say it's more of an intentional slant on the article to cater to the readership -- after all, kids hooked on Call of Duty don't want to know that Zynga is actually doing extremely well and growing. If Jessica Conditt really didn't realize this when both source articles cite the growing revenue stream... then Joystiq needs to screen their editors a little bit better.

Casual gamers always move on. Nintendo failed to realize it as well. Actually the entire industry fails to realize it. It is not and never will be sustainable. The casual gamers either moves on to the next pop culture hit or they stop play altogether.

The lesson will never be learned it seems.

I think they have been failing to understand this for the last past 40+ years.

While the first video game crash gave them a worth wild hint. It seems to be forgotten over time.

So where is all the doom and gloom like Nintendo is getting?

"Zynga should invest in making 3DS games."
"Zynga's way of doing business is outdated."
"Zynga should just shut down and give up."

@ecco6t9

Because saying "Zynga shouldn't have charged so much for their hardware, then announced a hardware revision less than a year later" just doesn't sound right.

What you mean the part where they lost 90% of their revenue but somehow are magically increasing in perceived value from 13 to 14 billion or what have you?

Sounds like a bubble if ever there was one and we all know what happens to bubbles.

Yes yes I do know that their revenue did actually increase, however revenue increase != profitability. You can make all the money in the world and if your expenses outweigh your income you still end up failing.

They spent too much money on growth, the fact that profit dropped is trivial.

Okay, Not that I play any of these games. It's just.

"It didn't release any new games until Empires and Allies in March 2011"

Zynga released Words With Friends for Facebook and Mob
Zynga released Adventure World mid Sep 2011
They updated/released/expanded FrontierVille to PioneerTrail
Added a lighthouse expansion for Farmville (seperate apps)

I'm just sayin'

" Zynga's profit measures how much money the company is truly retaining"

That can be confusing to those who dont really understand cash flow. Many assume that profit equals the amount of cash a company has after expenses, but profit doesn't equal cash. That's probably why their value rose even though their profit dropped immensely.

Pre-emptive defense:I'm not just making this up.If you don't believe or are just curious, ask any finance person you know, or google it.

I loathe Zynga, FarmVille, and all insipid feed-spamming pay-to-win "games" on Facebook.

According to Wikipedia, Zynga is a "scamming company" located in "Santa's Butt, North Pole."
