Your console can run Crysis on Oct. 4, new screenshots attest

It might not have triggered a technological apoplexy in your PC, but the malleable CryEngine 3 has granted Crytek access to a wider ranger of platforms -- including Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The original Crysis is cruising to consoles (via PlayStation Network and Xbox Live's Games on Demand service) on October 4 for $20, according to EA's last announcement.
The publisher sent out a small batch of screenshots too, which we've appended below. Walk through the tropics and talk through the topics as you scroll down.

If they threw in some rudimentary form of the Sandbox, where you could just blow things up, that'd sweeten the deal even more... but I shouldn't count on it.

Yup. Beat it on the PC years ago. Definitely worth picking it up. Especially for $20.

Yeah yeah, we know it can't look as good as the PC version.
I thought I would get that out of the way early.

@PR0F3TA Sounds like you are butthurt bro. It's ok if you are a console kiddie. But he speaks the truth, it will look better on the PC. You have graphic options you can adjust on the PC version. The console needs to run at set parameters in order to maintain a steady framerate.
The Xbox 360 is about 2 generations behind the PC in terms of horsepower.
So just stop your crying and accept this.

If you run games at medium, you're not part of the "hardcore PC gamer enthusiast e-peen crowd". Unless said game is called Crysis, Cryostasis or Metro 2033.
@Stiqlol
Believe it or not, decent gaming PCs don't cost that much. I recently bought a Radeon HD5770 for my PC. Cost me all of $73 - and that's in Australian money.
Chucked it in with my $50 E8200, $50 P5K, $50 worth of DDR2 (4gb) and $90 case and PSU and I have something literally 5x as powerful as a PS3 for about the same price.
PCs are only expensive and/or underpowered when you buy a brand-name model or get enthusiast-end hardware when it first comes out.

Getting an HD 5770 for less than $75's a steal; where I live, they retail for twice that and that's also factoring in the reduced cost for clearance. Some people just don't seem to understand that you can build a solid gaming PC without breaking the bank. The $1500-$2000 PC *only* makes sense if: you're trying to play the most visually demanding games on the market with every image quality preset maxed out, at a v-synced 60 FPS, and only at a resolution of at least 2500x1600, if you're a heavy folder, or if you're into bit-coin mining as something other than a hobby. For everyone else, $500-$600 is enough. Is it more expensive than a console? Yes, it is. But I remember quite a few people (in Canada at least) dropping $500 on a 20 GB Xbox 360 or a $700 PS3 60 GB when they came out, without uttering a complaint.

Sure that may have been cheap. But you wont be playing games on anything above medium for the next couple years before even low wont handle it.

You're forgetting the overhead of the OS on a PC, however. While the hardware on my PC is heftier than that of a 360, the performance is comparable because of all of the threads required to run windows.
Also, when you compare pc and 360 visuals, you really start running into a game of diminishing returns. Can you tell the difference between 1 gazillion polygon models and 2 gazillion poly models? I know I can't!
My only gripes with current gen consoles are physics and memory. Play Arkham Asylum on a pc with physx turned on, and you'll see what I mean physics wise. As far as memory goes, 512 mb of shared memory or 256 mb of vid mem/system mem is absurd. More polygons I can live without. Low res textures, though, make me sad.

The overhead of running an OS in the background isn't that considerable on a modern PC with an appropriate amount of system RAM; 99% of your CPU time and 75-95% of your available DRAM is consumed by the application(s) you yourself launched. The two things that prevent a game from reaching its peak performance on any PC are 1) the necessity of APIs and 2) the lack of hardware optimizations. A developer *could* completely bypass Direct3D or OpenGL and program directly to the metal in order to achieve maximum throughput; doing so, however, makes the game compatible ONLY with that specific hardware configuration. As for 2), a developer can only make so many hardware specific optimizations before earning the ire of potential customers who happened to make the "wrong" purchase.

The issue with that thinking, though, is that most of those games are cross platform titles developed with the constraints of the weakest platform in mind; the modern videogame industry requires multiplatform titles to scale up from the weakest common denominator instead of scaling down. If you compare a PC port to a console port, the biggest differences you are going to see are higher quality anti-aliasing, texture filtering, higher precision lighting, and higher precision post processing effects; there's only so much you can do to compensate using the same core art and geometry assets.
You might not be able to see a major benefit to increased environmental geometry, but it's pretty easy to spot in character models.

do i really need to explain this? cant we all just accept that any pc with a large enough case and an owner with enough money can blow past most technical limitations set for the common pc and all limitations placed for a console? anyone ever read a pc magazine? and ya know what, pc owners have a right to rejoice, they put in the money to get what they want, and they got it. the pc is still the premiere platform for graphical fidelity. like seriously give it a break. this is coming from a broke ass console owner pining for the perfect pc. so shaddup already. douchebaggery aside from BOTH sides of this perpetually stupid argument, this guy is right.

I'm sorry, but that didn't make any sense at all. I guess for the 360 port, the control mapping would be done, but getting the game to run on consoles, especially the PS3, requires considerable changes. Changing the buttons is probably the easiest and shortest part of making a port. Of course porting a game is easier than making a new game, it's not a 1 hour job; it still takes a while.
Well, maybe you were just trolling as your name implies.

The length of the game is decent. Sure it's a few years old, but if you've never played it before, it's not outrageous. Now if they were to later release Crysis:Warhead at this price, then that would be something to complain about.
