@CoconutSkittle It is the best series but I hate "tactical defending" so I'll skip this year and wait for "legacy defending" to be an option for multiplayer.

@The angry pro consumer gaming ga

You're just mad you don't get to simply hold A and B to defend. (Xbox controls) ... I love tactical defending. It's rewarding to the people who actually know how to defend and stops the assclowns online from holding B and dragging all the defenders out of position. That's why it's not in there anymore.

Good riddance!

@CoconutSkittle

tactical defending is the best addition to the game to date, my only problem with it is the opponent AI. Even on difficult, they dont change their strategies and I end up scoring 3 and 4 goals.

I still think NBA 2k is the best sports series with MLB 2nd (but people hate baseball :( )

@The angry pro consumer gaming ga Pretty sure you're able to turn that option off in the menus (although I can't confirm cause I don't have the game yet)

Damn it. I was really hoping the game wouldn't turn out so awesome. Now I'm a have to buy it & NHL 12 when they go on sale. Personally, I still think NCAA & Madden 12 are the best simulation sports games and MLB The Show is the most realistic. If EA can get their basketball franchise to stop sucking that'd be great because I can't stand NBA 2KXX.

Give equal time to PES! It's really good this year and whenever you have a chance to avoid supporting EA, you should take it.

Why? This game is clearly amazing, why shouldn't we support the developers? They deserve our money for making such a great game.

I got it Tuesday and have been loving it so far. It seems the 2012 edition of sports games have been the best. MLB the show was great, and I'm hearing NBA 2k12 is amazing as well.

So many good sports games!!!

Just played this all day yesterday. I've been playing FIFA since 2006 and this is definitely my favorite so far. Everything the review said about the change in how you play and how the game feels is true. Definitely the biggest and most welcome change to the series in awhile.

Madden this year has not quelled my sports game need. Though I can only be upset with myself because I expected it to be average.

This, however, I expect to keep me very entertained for a long time. Just love the FIFA games and it really does seem like this is a fantastic approximation of the beautiful game.

Question--I have sadly resigned to knowing FIFA > PES, but is the manager mode is fixed from '11? In FIFA 11 the AI was not programmed to sub players and after 4 games all the other teams' players had no stamina (literally zero) and would hobble around before getting injured. It was an egregious, pathetic error and it was kind of a bummer since I came from a game where I was obsessed with Master League...

The review also mentions more blurbs and less soccer in Manager mode, but you still play the games, right? How about things like Scouting? Player growth curves etc?

@Amalfitano Manager mode is just that, managing your club.

The point in the review isn't to list a bunch of features. There are plenty of fact sheets and such available on the web for that. Instead, the point is to say that these modes and the smaller aspects of them don't offer anything all that enriching, and remains an unexciting part of sports games as a whole. Are they fun? Sure.

I agree that the answer to my comment doesn't have to be in the review. I was just posing a question to the crowd since it seems a lot of people have played this game. I'd be a lot more willing to shell out 50 bucks if I could play the game in some reasonable single player way. I like manager modes and am interested in if it is at least PLAYABLE this year.

@Amalfitano Of course, that's perfectly understandable.

And in short, yes: absolutely playable. Basically every mode in this game is playable and fun, but it just comes back to the point of: am I engaging in something that is truly amazing, or a distraction? It's different for everybody. I'm certainly returning to career mode though. I recommend it.

I wish other sports games would put the same level of commitment into their game as FIFA. The motion and physics and everything that makes a sports game great are laughable compared to FIFA. FIFA already had the best collision system by far in sports games and they decided to take it even further with FIFA 12, why cant the other games catch up?

I would like a FIFA quality basketball game, I havent had fun in a basketball game since the pre-ps1 days. Basketball games have no flow or collision detection, Im sick of always running into invisible walls when playing a basketball game. Why are they so content with being mediocre?

@Mazrael Hey, I'm not going to pretend I'm not from Wisconsin, where our football has a team called the Packers, not Real Packers FC or something.

Although the Milwaukee Wave are pretty good. I love soccer, but I'd be a big phony if I started calling it football. Just like "soda" isn't "pop," and "drinking fountains" are called "bubblers."

Fifa 12 is a great game but it still lack the realism of PES 2012. Read a quick comparison here : http://rytonreview.blogspot.com/2011/09/ea-sport-fifa-2012-by-ryton.html
