PSA: Uncharted 3's multiplayer available at Subway

As part of Subway and Naughty Dog's remarkably confusing partnership, the Taste for Adventure campaign, purchasing one of Subway's specially-marked 30 ounce soda-pops will earn thirsty sammich-seeking patrons One Free Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Mode.

No, for real; buy a drink with Nathan Drake's rugged mug on the side, and you'll be given a PSN code for access to the "full competitive multiplayer experience" through the rest of October. As explained by the above video, participating in the event can earn you exclusive items and abilities like the "foot-long taunt," and multiplayer maps have also be sprinkled with "exclusive Subway items" that reveal additional content.

Look, we're not going to pretend this isn't completely ridiculous, but it's also hilarious in a mind-boggling, non-sequitur way. In fact, stuff like this is probably the future of product placement, so don't be surprised when the Hamburglar turns up in SoulCalibur 5.

Nope, not in Canada. However you can buy a code off e-bay, redeem it on subway's site to get a psn code, make a US PSN account to activate the code (it won't work on any other account, I tried with my standard (Canadian) one), and once the thing is downloaded and installed, go back to your regular account and start playing. That's what I did, cost me $4 for a code. Though I think the listing was removed from e-bay shortly after I got my code, and I haven't checked if there are still some up.

I wish I could give you my key. They absolutely butchered the MP as far as I'm concerned. I ADORED the beta, but the nerfed guns (it takes four to five hits with the mounted heavy machine guns to kill a guy now) really, REALLY ruin the experience. Kill streaks are rare for anyone, and more than half are the run and gunners that sprint right through your gunfire and hit you in the face.

Fun...

I've been reading a lot of this unfortunately. Not to rub it in, but when I grabbed my cup I actually pulled three off the stack and the girl behind the counter (who had no clue the cups had codes on them, funnily enough) didn't say anything.

There's a cost-benefit analysis in here somewhere. I'll take a free month of completely free multiplayer before the game is even released in exchange for seeing a dumb Subway camp once in a while.

Also, we need more of you cool people to get on. Yesterday was surprisingly unplayable with all of the foul-mouthed, racist kids and the lack of an easy "Mute All" option.

I hear ya. Generally one of the first things I do with any multiplayer game is search for the "mute all" options.

I think I've played U2 multi unmuted 3 times, tops, for the reason you cite. I've been playing a lot of Team Fortress 2 on the Mac lately, and one of the nice things about it is there's very little voice spam.

Yeah, I recently noticed that the 360 has an option under Preferences>Voice to turn voice volume down to zero, so that was pretty much a time-saver. Now I just need to find a similar feature on the PS3, and all my online experiences turn into pleasantly competitive matches with agreeable deaf-mutes.

@copa Well, it's just, when we let even the 'little' things like this slide and take a part in the video games we play...it's making it that much more 'Okay' to move forward in that direction. That's what I believe anyway.

But I'm sure there's worse, and there's been worse, things regarding cross-promotion.

haha, and yes I feel ya with the foul-mouthed kids...it's probably why I avoid most online games. (and must be why I enjoyed Demon's Souls so much...HAH)

Score one for Microsoft. I'm fairly positive the PS3 doesn't have a global setting like that. One can dream though...

@kyosti Agreed. The whole thing feels kinda gross. I mean I don't mind partnering up with other companies to promote your products, but when you bring that shit inside the actual game, that's when I start getting pissy.

@copa The earlier U3 beta had a quick and easy to use mute all option. It even worked during the "forming game" phase (unlike in U2).

It's missing from this beta. And they even broke the little icons that shows you who is mouthing off so you can mute them individually.

I have to expect this stuff will be fixed in the final version.

@Enigma7ic okay, I'm really glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. I never eat subway anyway, so nothing will change here.

You have to highlight your own user name on the list of players and there is a "Mute All" option. I don't know why they changed it. I swear I remember the beta you only had to hit triangle at the MP players list screen.

This is despicable.. and makes me very sad. :'(

@Breakdown Everything at Subway tastes like salt.. at least Arby's would make sense with fat drake. I donno, I just don't like my beloved franchises whoring themselves out for a quick buck.

Got mine....im just surprised Naughty Dog is willing to give free codes for the multiplayer in exchange for the Subway drinks. Buying a combo meal would make more sense...either way wierd to give away one of the most important aspects of the game for like what? 2 bucks?...oh well...still getting the game...

I hope Uncharted 4 lets you download the multiplayer early if you file for an insurance plan at State Farm so I can unlock the special "Like a good nieghbor state farm is there" jingle taunt for Nathan Drake to sing while break dancing......

As someone who liked the first two Michael Bay Transformer movies I will tell you that no, Dark of the Moon is not a good movie. It is in fact completely terrible.

I tried 3 yesterday, no one has the new cups out.

A buddy of mine pass me a code because I live in Puerto Rico and this thing is not coming to my country. MP of U3 is way better than the Beta, runs faster and is more steps ahead of U2.

is it just me, or does the screenshot of the video look like bear grylls explaining to the camera his next amazing survival climb?!

I'm enjoying the multiplayer early access.

More games should do things like this. To bring in new players or get the ones familiar with the game craving for it early.

Sure all the ad placement is corny, but to play a full multiplayer game with all the unlocks and everything carries over. This seems like a great deal to me.

Hopefully Jared is an unlockable skin for multiplayer.
