Why why why does this guy get downvoted? He read the story, and he said his piece (albeit very succinctly with one word). I will never understand the downvote-happy Joystiq readers. This guy clearly isn't trolling, baiting, or being a general jerk. He simply stated an opinion based on very limited information (and people who like this gameplay rumour are basing their opinions on just as little information).

Aaanywho, I wish people wouldn't downvote just because they disagree with an opinion.

@The Pork I think as a general rule those who do not get to pollute the comments section with first, down vote those who post before them.

Of course, you could also state that "downvoting" is also an opinion of the Joystiq community with even fewer words.

How is this lame?? If anything it is refreshing.

There are just too many games where the main characters in horror/survival games just continue to chug along unfazed by what is going on around them. Nobody would still be mentally with it after witnessing the things that happened Dead Space. Issac Clarke losing his mind is very realistic and sounds like an awesome idea!

I can't wait for DS3 now! =D

agreed, plus they pretty much did this already in Dead Space 2.
wasn't "shadow isaac" but "crazy dead girlfriend.....isaac"

@EvilJester the being stalked by your dead girlfriend idea was tame.. you only need a (living) girlfriend to piss off every month to experience that..

Erm...well what are you supposed to downvote people for then? Surely it's to demonstrate your disagreement with a person's opinion?

I think after everything Isaac has been through, this makes a lot of sense. I just hope they conclude his story with the third one.

It does. I mean, he's been slowly going insane this whole time anyway, why not take it to the next level. I hope they take a cue from Eternal Darkness and the MGS games and REALLY pull out some mindf*cks.

No, but it's consistantly tense, which I am totally okay with. Then again, I like where Resident Evil went too.

What's scarier than Dead Space? Actually it didn't scare me, but then again I went in with a mindset of "if I expect something to pop out at every corner then I won't be surprised". What I did find truly terrifying was the monster that regenerated.

@The Scout Go play Amnesia. (But most games fail at being scary.)

A game isn't very scary when you can tell that something "scary" is going to happen because the spooky music picks up.

See that's what I love about Dead Space: It's ability to create tension and make the player feel that. Same with RE4 (Haven't played 5). Neither are "scary" but both create an immense feeling of tension, that I find to be much more "enjoyable" than a good scare. You're always thinking "what's going to be coming next? will I be prepared? will I have enough ammo/healing items/ etc to deal with it?" I'd take a good sense of tension over scares any time of the day.

Yeah, such as a "reconnect your controller" message on Xbox 360 when the controller is either got full battery or is a wired controller. Not sure what mindf*cks they coul do on PS3 or PC....

Really? Maybe it's cause I didn't play it at 3am with headphones on and every light source turned off, but Amnesia didn't scare me. I had a few moments where I thought, "oh god, it's right behind me," but I wasn't really scared.

For example: in that water segment where the invisible thing chases you I was just running between safe zones. If I died there wasn't much punishment was there? Just restart from the last major room I was in and try again.

(For the record the only parts in Dead Space that scared me were the fights against Mr. Invincible monster).

Seems predictable after he resolved his issues with Nicole in Dead Space 2. He needed a new dementia-induced sidekick, Isaac Durden would fit the bill. I'd have liked to see him getting mentally stronger rather than weaker after the conclusion of the second game, mind you.

For me, the "scary" Nicole parts of DS2 + the last boss were the weakest parts of the game. I hope this is not more of the same thing.

Still, I don't mean to sound like a whiny *****. DS3 is easily my most awaited game once I'm done with Dark Souls and U3, so I want to give EA a big hug for continuing the series! :)

@Pure Black World Tendency Here I thought the weakest parts were the enemy design. Being able to figure out that the enemy won't chase you if you backtrack really kills any sort of tension.

Platinum trophy, my friend.

Though I must admit I almost ruined a controller while doing my hardcore run. And not from throwing it at the wall either, but from twisting it in pure fury. Dying 3 hours after the last save is no fun.

As long as they don't put any multiplayer in it, I'm good. Dead Space 2 wasn't better than the first, I also don't think I like this idea....seems like an attempt to add humor in it. ...

I hope it doesn't overshadow the game... :/

Someone sounds a bit butt hurt about not being able to put spoilers right on the front page. Like a certain someone did yesterday for Arkham City.

Well, it's an easy situation to avoid. All you have to do is give it *some* thought for 1 second.

If Shadow Isaac is going to be onscreen at all times, I would at least like for him to figure into the gameplay somewhat. Maybe you could tap into that insanity on occasion to increase movement speed or highlight weak points more clearly, or have access to more brutal and effective melee attacks.

Or he could just be really annoying. Too soon to tell.
